In my opinion the key to winning in the NRL is the ability to score and defend in the redzone.

Union wasnt banned in germany by hitler. A championship was played until 1942. No Rugby was played from 1943-1947 due to the war.
Union was never popular in Germany outside of 2 or 3 Cities. Even before WW2 Football was by far the most popular game. It is true though that germany defeated France pre WW2.
The Games of the RWC in Germany had an average tv audience of 200000, which is fantastic for german rugby, but that number of 3 million for a group game is a ridiculous exaggeration.

Not more Video refereeing, it wont make the game fairer, so many of those knock on/strip calls are fifty fifty calls, you would just create more controversy AND it would slow the game down massively. I think we should rather reduce the use of the video to eliminate long atoppages and accept, that refs are human and make mistakes.

Rugby did change the rules to make it more attractive, all that advantage stuff, use it or lose it.
The talk about rugby needing improvement happens in other Rugbyplaying countries as well, although not as much as in Australia.

I prefer League partly because of the Union Scrums. They are incredibly boring and annoying. League Scrums are admittedly a bit of a joke, but at least they are quickly over.

“nothing could possibly be worse” The Union scrum is worse, it takes an eternity, at least league scrums dont delay the game. It would be nice if they were a bit more competitive, but as long as they dont disrupt the game I’m ok with them.
Your Idea sounds worth trialing though.
How to replace the scrum
The reason why the European Football Leagues dont have a grand final is not because its unfair, its because there are other things to achieve. In Germany Bayern Munich secured the title 4 or 5 rounds early, but there was still the battle against regulation and the battle for spots in the European Competitions. So even after the Bundesliga was decided, there were still a lot of meaningful games with a lot at stake for the Clubs. The NRL has neither relegation nor is there an international competition like the Champions League to qualify for, therefore the NRL needs Playoffs to maintain the Interest in the later Rounds.
The NFL is a bad example, because they dont play every team, so some teams have an easier Schedule than others. Same thing although not as extreme applies to the NRL. Teams with many origin players would also be disadvantaged.

happens too often that refs change a call just because a player is or pretends to be injured. If they make a call they should go with it, unless the touch judge has a different opinion

thats wrong they dont always stop the clock, only if a player runs out or after an incomplete pass. If someone is tackled in the open field the clock continues to run down.

As a Saints fan I was obviously disappointed that Burns missed, but we didnt deserve to win. In my opinion we were not threatening enough in attack. I hope that improves when Lomax and Walsh return.

Bradford has good short and medium accuracy, so he apparently would be better suited.
