Kiwi living in Melbourne. I enjoy being a Rebels founder supporter \\\"He who dies first with the most toys wins\\\"

I can’t see the Rebels getting close if they kick away possession to the Blues backs. When will McGahan instruct them it is preferable to take a tackle rather than give up the ball

Melbourne lose Laurie Weeks for Blues clash

I struggle to see why many seem to dislike A Smith
I back the Rebels but to see him take us apart last week was actually good rugby to watch (and inept from Rebels)

He is so quick to the ball and delivery is also quick. None of this hanging over the ball whilst the opposition defence gets organised. Meehan was too slow as Phipps used to be. Hope Stirzaker comes back soon and plays quick ball like he used to

A Smith has the enthusiasm, speed and confidence I like to see in a halfback. I get people who don’t like chirpy halfbacks due to personality, but that is part of their role. Gregan was similar. Respect due. I’d have a beer with both

(Joffrey was an unlikeable sadistic prick, evidently a good actor)

Super Rugby 2016 power poll 1: The tiers of TV

Hopefully Rebels to show Phipps up as a pretender this weekend

Waratahs play down Beale injury

Last home loss in 5+ years… Well that settles it. It will be 25 home wins in a row then

Wales are capable of winning in New Zealand

Touché

Australian Super Rugby issues using the Stroke Index

Yes this was the case against the rebels this weekend. Meehan was well outplayed and gave slow service to Debrecini who had few ideas also apart from shoveling on or kicking possession away early as well. Hopefully Stirzy comes back strong, although it might take a while. I love watching A Smith ply his trade enthusiastically

Australian Super Rugby issues using the Stroke Index

Surprised you say that. I was just thinking this weekend he is not shining at all for me. Too often he makes poor decisions and gets caught with the ball and loses possession. No doubt brave but lacking the X factor I had hoped for to become a strong wallaby

Australian Super Rugby issues using the Stroke Index

It came down to a ridiculous amount of aimless kicking the possession away Sean
Debreceni has not been a playmaker this season – he seems to have lost go forward confidence. Take it to the line man and create some space – you are big enough to offload. And your kicking is now woeful – in timing and effectiveness
We the crowd started booing each kick in the second half it was so obvious and sad. Meehan also a culprit
In protest, we walked out at 75mins and others around us were not disagreeing…. 🙁
A first, I hope never to repeat

Rebels trio could miss Tahs

I agree, loved it Harry.
Didn’t enjoy the first reply at all. Ungracious to the storyteller

Nizaam Carr: Street tough and full of love

Exactly machooka, it will be a fail, no doubt in my mind.
But I am sure he will take at least a years worth of their cash
He has shown more mercenary than loyalty in the past, and won’t change his spots I’m picking

If he puts extra bums on seats for 6 months, it may turn out to be a reasonable investment for the sponsors will be the Wasps thinking

Beale offered multi-million dollar English deal: Reports

Rebels just need more self belief when in SA
At their best, they could deal with the Bulls happily at home. But they were far from their best last week, quite disjointed in their first half approach. Their late second half showed what they can do and should do. More bottle and structure in the 1st 20 grind is required.

Is it too early to worry about the Australian conference?

For my most influential players, I would carve:

William Webb Ellis – the one whose story is told to the non rugby world every 4 years
Jonah Lomu – the most recognised world player,(as was recently demonstrated at his untimely passing), the most exciting single player I would anticipate to watch and who changed the game at the start of the pro era, the first superstar of rugby
Danie Craven – not only a great player but strong long term administrator of the top team of the post ww2 era
Gareth Edwards – fabulous player and inspiring leader, often voted by players as the best that was

The first two in my view would be the most well known names in the non-rugby world, both teenagers when they started and starred
The second two, stand tall on their lifetime achievements -awesome

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Edwards

Balanced north vs south, representing 4 of the nations where rugby is revered, spanning the whole rugby eras (with a full emphasis on who stood the test of time rather than just the present crop). The best I can do, ymmv.

Who belongs on rugby union's Mount Rushmore?

Yep that Cosby is a sweater now

New Zealand pinch Sydney Sevens

Beale is no permanent #10. Ask the Rebels – like JOC would not distribute unless it was a hospital pass. Both were very good counter attacking fullbacks. Folaus power is also wasted for the tahs at the back. He needs more involvement in tackles and busting runs. Centre is where I would always put him now he has learned enough of the code. He could/would be more devastating than SBW with the ball (although also needs to learn to offload more).
Who else could fill 10 as a distributor?

Folau to return for Waratahs trial

That was not a very representative Samoa A team
The body shapes on some of the players were inappropriate for the numbers on their backs. A winger who had a hookers body shape for one. Their backs had no pace so were carved up . As I said, not very Samoa like.
I did enjoy the game live however – always nice to see 13 tries in any match

Rebels belt Samoa A in final rugby trial

Take your time Broady, your life is more important than footie. That said, love to see you back when 100%

Lock Broadhurst sidelined with concussion

The Reds will do ok with this 9/10 combo, despite having a Nuff Nuff ‘coaching’

NRC stars to step up for Queensland Reds

Not a bad choice. Thought McMahon (who was captain yesterday vs Samoa A) was a reasonable long term choice too
Both will always be starters and are fit, so that is better than some of the recent international captain choices! Lol

Stirzaker to lead Rebels in 2016

What is his success rate as captain now, and will it improve or not?

Read confirmed as All Blacks skipper

Just read this, a year late admittedly.
Good robust discussion and I understand a lot more than I did.
Thanks to TWAS for the resources he spent starting and responding in the discussion

Where do our rugby players come from?

Good work Tim, bring on part 2

Crusaders candidates: Jake White (Part 1)

Good response to them. They should at least acknowledge your communication. Without that courtesy, how can they expect loyalty.
I had a similar problem with Rebels management in addressing a complete failure to get my season tickets to me within 5 months of paying. No response and they came within a bees dick of losing 2 foundation members for life. Unacceptable to go missing when fair questions need answering

Reds' Graham: I know I have to win

Impressive list! Thanks for that

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Much as I loved watching Jonah play, he just did not reach his potential. So much promise to be the greatest, but as we found out later the longevity could never be there. Such a tragic waste.

Yes longevity at the top counts, cruelly for the shooting stars. Consistency too. Did Richie ever have a bad game? Hard to think of one, as he always put in 100%. Yes he was shaded on occasions, eg by George Smith, by Schalk at times, but not consistently. And those examples were legends as players too. So it’s not as if he was not competing against some of the best.

Lomu had no one to compare against in his day as a huge, powerful, fast and skillful winger. Today he would. Shows how much of a freaky talent he was, but these days he would not fend off the other big wingers as easily that we have today. Nadolo, Naholo are not 85kg Campese

Who has been rugby's greatest ever player?

Yes, the future is bright for Sanzar given the recent RWC top 4 success. I trust this will translate to bigger $ from future world television rights, given the clear gulf of spectacle that is exclusively south of the equator. More $ to counteract the drain of the mercenary French $ clubs which is sucking down hard on most nations.

Andy Marinos appointed new CEO of SANZAR
