A bit chirpy is one way of describing it.

There was a foxtel ad for the domestic one day comp some years back, which featured players from all the states being asked a series of questions in a ‘get to know them’ sort of thing… who is the best bat, favourite place to play, which local club did you play for, fastest bowler you have faced… that sort of thing.

‘who is your least favourite opposition player ?’

Every single player answer they showed *(4-5 guys) all nominated Brad Haddin.

In that same ‘sweat bands’ game (1st final, 92-93 season), Curtly took 5 for including cleaning up Ian Healy with a very very slow ball… Curtly cracked up laughing afterwards, as did Healy. Its on youtube if anyone cares to have a look.

But agree with the general thrust of your comment Don… Curtly certainly had the menacing aura plus he had skills to back it up. Off the field though, I understand he is a lovely bloke.

PWC job is to minimise losses?

In theory yes, but in reality, PWC will go with whatever best lines their own pockets.

CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade

I thought the same Fin; Walton had plenty of time to come forward off the try line and still set himself for the tackle, but *(from the vision I saw) he appeared to just wait close to the line for HP to arrive. Cant blame HP for that though 👍

'Bit of a bully moment': The Lomu-esque try that confirmed Reds star is back to make Wallabies push

agreed mate, 5.4 per carry is very impressive 👍

How the San Francisco 49ers have struck gold en route to the Super Bowl

I enjoyed these observations MM and agree with what you say other than that I dont think its arguable that Malcolm Marshall was the best of his era of Windies quicks.. he was the best, no argument.

Could beat you with pace but could also swing the ball… my all time favourite bowler, RIP Malcolm.

Round 7 Sheffield Shield wrap – Who's keeping their spot at the head of the Test queue?

Yeah I think thats fair re PatBev Paul, Cam Payne wasnt offering the Bucks much and whatever else he does, for better (getting a big defensive stop!) or worse (taking crunch time shots away from Dame!) Pat wont shy away from the big moments.

Great to see an NBA article by the way 👍

Minor trades at deadline can make major difference in playoffs but teams will regret moves that didn’t happen

McCaffery is the favourite to win Offensive Player of the Year and he has a rather compelling case for it. The 49er lead the league in rushing this season going for 1,459 yards at an average of 17 yards a carry.

17 yards a carry ?

Did you just slip that in to see if anyone was actually reading ?

I enjoyed your article though Nicholas; and it should be a great game… alot riding on this for Kyle Shanahan I think.

Hi Paul, it was Alec Burks who got traded to the Knicks; not Trey… I thought the Knicks were the clear winners at the deadline; Bojan is still a good player who they will be able to bring off the bench… I expect he will be an excellent bench scorer for them.

Respectfully I think you are overstating the potential impact of Pat Bev; (imo) he has been trading on reputation for a couple of season now. The only real upgrade he brings the Bucks is in ‘irrational confidence’ and shit talking.

I agree wholeheartedly with this Ben.

It's not un-Australian to cheer against Australia - in fact, in our favourite sports, it is the best option

The captain of Holland is a South African.

I assume you are referring to the captain of the Dutch cricket team Lazza… ?

If yes, that would be Scott Edwards… an Australian.

I agree with pretty much all of your post Ehhh…. Ox has the right body shape for an NFL offensive lineman and a great name to boot, but at 5 foot 8, he is much too short; average height is 6 foot 5; none shorter than 6 foot 1 currently.

Of course that just reinforces your point about the variety of shapes and sizes that can find a home at top level in rugby unlike most other sports. 🏉

Boring, slow Rugby has lost its mojo and needs a makeover - here's some ways to get it back in fashion

Agreed mate and fingers crossed for him, would be an awesome story

'Nothing about rugby': Wales superstar explains shock call to quit to pursue NFL dream, England set to name new skipper

Yep, nothing worse than making a sweet block and the rookie RB runs into him anyway.

100%

I was guilty of that alot in my first 20-30 games. What really helped me learn to read the blocking better was when I started to play full back and was doing the blocking myself.

After that, on the rare occasions when we would go ‘jumbo set’ and I was back at RB, I had a much better understanding of what the blockers were trying to do and how to take advantage of it.

I really enjoyed playing full back, but was never quite able to make the ultimate transition to the offensive line 😂

I think thats good take Hoy; its not a lack of athleticism, its the lack of understanding or being used to the nuances of the game… it takes time to learn.

I was lucky enough to play against a Divvy 2 US College team when I was playing for Sutherland Seahawks in the Sydney gridiron comp; we were easily a physical match for them, but they spanked us because we made ‘rookie mistakes’ and they performed like guys who had been playing the game for years.

All those times you quote for the NFL guys are in games, with helmets and pads. That stuff slows you down… but its clear that LRZ has plenty of gas regardless

'Nothing about rugby': Wales superstar explains shock call to quit to pursue NFL dream, England set to name new skipper

You are correct about Hill being a junior world champion sprinter Piru.

FB (and the internet) note that LRZ runs the 100m in 10.4; Hill ran a legal 10.19 and a wind assisted 9.98 (not legal).

'Nothing about rugby': Wales superstar explains shock call to quit to pursue NFL dream, England set to name new skipper

RB’s typically arent absolute burners (sure, some exceptions) because they need to be bulkier to tolerate the pounding they endure.

I’d suggest LRZ is probably a bit tall for RB, very few RB at 6’2… Derrick Henry *(who is same height but 15-20 kgs heavier than LRZ) comes to mind, but thats it…Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis, Marshawn Lynch, Christian McCaffery, Nick Chubb all under 6 foot.

I agree with your earlier comments Keith; most likely position would be special teams returner or perhaps WR after he learns the passing tree and then all the variations to the routes that have been called based on how the Defence lines up.

'Nothing about rugby': Wales superstar explains shock call to quit to pursue NFL dream, England set to name new skipper

How does he go running in pads and a helmet FB ?

I dont think anyone is questioning LRZ’s pace or that he is good at rugby… its just a very difficult transition to make. Anyway, best of luck to him, I hope he stays healthy and has great success.

I found the running behind blockers to be the hardest part of the transition between being a centre in rugby and an RB in in gridiron; 100% does not come naturally.

Gap's never been wider between cricket’s Big Three haves and the have-nots ... and it’s only getting worse

It wasn’t Nedlands they played for; I was playing for Nedlands when it ceased to be a stand alone club in the late 80’s (amalgamated with Claremont Cottesloe to become Claremont Nedlands )… pretty sure the Hollioakes played for South Perth. We did have a young Robin Smith (pre test debut) play at Nedlands; was a lovely bloke and could really bat. 🏏

BB, they can definitely add seats for rugby at Optus; its basically built for AFL so the rugby pitch is pretty small in the middle of the field, they truck in temp stands / seats at ground level. Easy to add in a couple of thousand seats that way.
