I prefer the old blokes playing their own exhibition game for charity at a slower pace but with more skill. Especially if they ham it up at times and are mic’ed up.

Exhuming the NRL Nines: Flogging a dead horse no-one wants

I think this year Lichaa is running the water Nat. That will give him more opportunity to stretch his legs than sitting on the bench for 70 mins! 😂 😂 😂

You better change the subject away from religion TB before the focus shifts to Israel Folau and then say goodbye to any chance of another on topic comment on this story.

If “Bobcat” looks trim mate it’s a girdle not due to MacDougall’s “Man Shake”. 😂

He’ll give some of these whippersnappers a bit of what for… IF he can catch them! 😂

I wish him the best of luck but the tournament should be more focused on giving a platform to developing young talent and fringe first-graders who are on the verge of a breakout season IMO.

Nat, it’s time to shed some light on how my undercover operation to undermine the development of junior talent here in “North Korea” is progressing. I think you failed to join the dots following the recent story about takling being banned in junior RL… in QLD.

Remember when I said that undermining tackling skills for future QLD Origin stars was one of my objectives?

The NRL has defended its decision to delay tackling in Queensland’s junior rugby league.

Everything is going according to plan “Freddie”. Next, Michael Lichaa will be working on passing drills. LOL 😂 😂 😂

I also enjoy the fun carnival atmosphere of the Nines. For me it’s more about getting an opportunity to see new recruits tyo a club or fringe players and emerging young guns put up their hand to declare themselves.

Prospective injury is an ever present spectre that hangs over the tournament and that is why most clubs, if they are sensible, rest their star players. That said, if Souths substitute Latrell Mitchell for Bryson Goodwin and play Cody Walker, Adam Reynolds and Alex Johnston they win the tournament with that squad hands down.

As it is the NRL experts on NRL.com are heavily tipping the Broncos and the Eels with the Panthers 3rd best choice. Beware of the Bunnies with a host of young talent with massive raps about to declare themselves and players like Damien Cook, Cameron Murray, Campbell Graham, Edene Gebbie and Troy Dargan ready to tear the game apart. Can’t wait!

What’s “Bobcat’s” nickname these days TB? “Beer Gut” Ryan? 😂 😔 😂

I agree with everything you have written mate, 100%. Re the whole “the axe” nickname and who came first? The chicken or the bronco?, see my reply to your above comment (when it goes up). And YES, I know that Gillmeister played for the Roosters prior to joining the Broncos but it would have killed my joke entirely.

When I think of the biggest one on one tackles I have seen they are all from that era. And I’m talking about tackles not shoulder charges.

My top two in reverse order are Souths Charlie Frith on the Dragons Tony Trudgett. Rex Mossop described it in the call as; “he went from running flat out forward to being slammed backwards by “a human projectile”. classic Moose!

But the one I always remember was Manly’s Terry Randall on the Roosters BIG Bob “Bear” O’Reilly at the old Sydney Sports Ground. Randall lined up the charging O’Reilly from 10 metres back and drilled him. O’Reilly had a massive weight and height advantage but Randall’s momentum, commitment and technique in the tackle caused the much bigger man to fly backwards and land with a thud is a cloud of dust that obscured both players. It was like watching a missile on impact!

I remember Rex Mossop commenting on O’Reilly’s reaction after losing the ball in the tackle. He sat up and thumped the ground in disappointment. Rex laughed and said something like; “O’Reilly’s upset he lost the ball. Most men would have been killed by that tackle but all O’Reilly is thinking about is the dropped ball!” Rex was celebrating both men’s toughness at that moment. No doubt O’Reilly felt that tackle but he didn’t want Randall to know that.

The game is too sanitised and commercialised now. It has lost it’s soul. The buzz and tribal atmosphere we all used to experience at the smaller suburban grounds has been lost forever, sadly.

Btw, I started following the game in 1970 when I was just 4 yrs old. Hence my original profile name SSTID_1970. 😉

Boys, I know “Bunny” Reilly was called “the axe”. But axe is easier to type and spell than Gillmeister and I didn’t want to look that up. It’s also easier to spell Reilly… except for Pickett Fence. He always leaves out one “L”. 😂 😂 😂

Still, I find it ironic that a man who was nicknamed “Bunny” never played for the Rabbitohs. Seems only fair that he should have done given that the chooks took Ron Coote, Elwyn Walters and Michael Cleary from Souths and Terry Fahey shortly after Reilly retired. 😉

Glass houses Insider. Dylan Walker was acquitted for the same thing and after the same supporting statement for his partner, the “alleged” victim, the case against him was dismissed.

Then there is Manase Fainu and his armed assault and stabbing charge. Then Anthony Watmough and his barrassment of a woman and assault against her father.

And dare I bring up John Hopoate’s rap sheet? Next, Craig Field a former Bunny who played 54 games for Manly is currently serving a 10 year jail sentence for manslaughter. Just how far do you want to draw the longbow and throw mud in the hope that some of it will stick?

In the case of the DUI Inglis tried to sleep off a heavy night first before showing poor judgement in getting behind the wheel the following morning. Thankfully there was no actual harm done but it was a very poor decision and he has done his penance for that.

Still, two mistakes off-field does not negate all Inglis achieved for the game, his two clubs, his “state”, his country and the Indigenous community in a distinguished 15 year career. That was a cheap shot response to a joke with Nat that you were never a part of.

So why comment at all? Did you feel like an outsider, Insider? 😂

And you don’t ever get hurt if you run the water and peel the oranges isn’t that right Picket Line? You may have cleaned footy boots but I bet you never wore them on a footy field yourself. 😂

I’ll give you a point though for your understanding and use of the word “woke”. Even the AFL give a point for missing and just making an effort. 😂 😂 😂

“therefore she is beyond criticism”

Are you sure you used the correct personal pronoun? It’s so hard to keep up with the growing list and the rising indignation over such fluid concept.

Still, that explains a lot. I remember the face from a Bledisloe Cup clash against the Wallabies. 😉

3hats, I remember when people said the same thing about your posts back when you were a Rabbitohs supporter on ZT. Funny how much you’ve changed. 😂

Statues quo, Insider? My old coach used to say; “You can’t put brains into statues” but then he was a Rugby coach and he couldn’t have imagined a statue in the form of a Castle that would one day ruin the game of Rugby Union. Especially one with a fringe so sharp that it could cut glass.

Jack “White-out” is still overrated in my book. One Clive Churchill medal doesn’t make up for the intercept pass he threw in Origin and for his poor or inconsistent form over the last few years.

No amount of liquid paper can correct “White-out’s” mistakes both on and off the field.

How much fish for a swish delish dish should Papi catch, if Papi could catch fish? 😂 😂 😂

But finishing in the top 3 for the last two years sure beats being thumped by an aggregate score of 106 – 18 and being unceremoniously punted out of the running in the first game of the finals, Nat. 😂 😂 😂

Seriously Nat. The Roosters salary cap rorting should concern all clubs! I’m sure the inconsistency from the NRL concerns Andrew Gee the Broncos brown paper bag man. 😂

Only 10 comments so far and not one of them from a Knights supporter. Come on Novocastrians, time to rise up and be counted. The blocked drain has been cleared and the Brown obstruction has been flushed away. Finally there is light on the horizon… but still no coach! 😉

Why your team will do better in 2020: Newcastle Knights

Yeah, but it’s still a better result than 58 – 0. 😂 😂 😂

Besides, you know that Papa Smurf never shows his hand early in the season, Nat. He is probably just foxing and playing mind games. At the very least he is referring to the trials.

Bennett does have a point though about Murray getting more time in Origin as a back-rower though. Currently he is behind Jake T. who is a machine and can play close to 80 mins. That’s 79 mins more than Darius Boyd turns up for each week. 😂 😂 😂

The last ‘tag’ game I actually watched was… the Broncos vs the Eels week 1 of the finals, 58 – 0. 😂 😂 😂

Jaydn Su’A is going well and should improve this year along with Ethan Lowe. Relax mate, Papa Smurf never shows his hand early. You know that. It’s probably all just smoke and mirrors and a reference to the trials in any case.

Bennett is right about one thing though. Murray is currently behind Jake T. as the Blues number 13 and would get more game time in Origin playing im the back-row.

That’s about how long it’s been since the Broncos last won a premiership in 2006 isn’t it? 😂 😂 😂

Old man Bennett has lost the plot!

This new move could easily backfire disastrously. Bennett is planning to move Liam Knight to Lock and Murray to edge back-rower to cover the loss of Sam. Souths are already short on depth for front rowers as it is and giving Mark Nicholls more game time (which seems an inevitable result) would be disastrous!
