A sports fan generally, but a soft spot for AFL, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Cricket.

Plenty of room in the budget for a big buy like this with to fill the shoes of Finch and Marsh. A capable cool head at the top of the order is absolutely essential. Someone like Brown was definitely needed to provide support for Rooster.

Cricket Australia use Frogbox to stream premier cricket directly to YouTube. You can watch games live or watch the entire broadcast on delay. It overlays the PlayHQ live scores like you were watching WWOS back in the day. No cost to the consumer. I can watch Victorian Premier Cricket 1sts or 2nds everywhere to my phone or smart TV. You could watch this year’s Victorian Premier Cricket Final between Carlton and Casey/South Melbourne. https://www.youtube.com/live/BevU96Y02MU?feature=shared.

Rugby Australia could series look at this. It’s a single camera feed mind you, but worth a look.

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Speaking of cricket, there’s been a great innovation into the coverage of local premier cricket in each state. Every premier club set up a frogbox camera that goes live on YouTube. It’s overlaid with the scores from the cricket PlayHQ app. Anyone could go back and watch all three days of the Victorian Premier Cricket GF from Windy Hill. It could be the kind of system that rugby could employ to spread the word. Every game of every round 1sts and 2nds. This is the link to to the Vic Premier Final

I once watched Onkaparinga RUC live on NITV.

Restorative Justice might work with kids in a school playground but we’re talking about adults who know better. A life ban is a proportionate response for targeting someone with that kind of language. I found footage at WWOS, he is completely non-plused and bemused with being ejected. That kind of behaviour shows he’s completely oblivious with the impact of his words, I doubt any kind of education would have the desired effect.

Sorry, is Souths after Bellamy, or Ryles?

I was at the game last Friday and had no idea Lomani had been racially vilified. In all my years following the Rebels and going to games I’ve never heard racial abuse directly or heard it reported. It’s just terrible. I saw someone on twitter describing what when down. So sorry to Frank Lomani and to the fans who were sitting near the perpetrators at the time. There weren’t many people there, so it shouldn’t be too hard to identify who it was. Nothing short of a complete ban I hope.

Not forgetting the ARF uses the deductible gift recipient status from the Australian Sports Foundation so that those ‘contributions’ are fully tax deductible.

Exclusive: Herbert claims 'steady progress' in rebuilding trust as RA seeks to avert more board bloodshed at AGM

Pone Faamausili has been talking about shedding 10kgs and playing in the backrow. Apparently he played a couple of games at 8 a few years back. We could do worse than Leota and Faamausili as loosies. That all said, if the Rebels get a chance to go around again next year, I can’t see both Talakai and Topou both hanging around. What’s the state of their contracts? I know TP’s been linked to Ireland- Leinster may be?

Beale's back! Wallabies star joins Western Force after injury opens the door for veteran's return

Was there for the W game last night, was a cracker as well! The game was there for the taking in those final few moments. They played so well it felt like they kept the ball in the Reds 22 for about 90% of 2nd half.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

Completely agree. The Rebels second 40mins was spot on. Threw the kitchen sink they did. Lots of pressure, lots of endeavour. It was clear at the ground that the Fijians didn’t have much left in the tank. The Rebels created the moments which led to the Fijian implosion and ill-discipline. That could be the Rebels on the receiving end of the same at any point against the stronger side though, so I won’t get to carried away. Just need to celebrate the victories, it might get some investors over the line.

You’re right. Both he and Mafi had good nights.

Top call.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

Should have seen the seagulls tonight. There was no AFL over the road so they loitered around AAMI Park all night!

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

There’s talk of Pone shedding some KGs and shifting to the backrow. It began as a bit of a joke but Foote’s apparently bought into the idea.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

TWAS I was at the game. The momentum shift was marked, and it was clear the Drua just didn’t have the legs. I think what happened was more out of frustration than malice. Classic brainfarts.

'Insane and total stupidity': Drua have two SENT OFF as Rebels score 33 unanswered points to win again

All fair points, and yes a few years away. I think the attraction for WUFC about bringing the Rebels onboard is about accelerating that. I was a bit tongue in cheek earlier with my east/west cracked but I am a bit concerned about the challenges of a venue so far to the west. I live inner NW and could do Tarneit in about 30min depending on Ring Road traffic so it’s no skin off my nose. I always thought the Showgrounds would have been a good venue due to parking and PT- there’s a railway siding between there and the Racecourse, but if this keeps the Rebels going long enough then this is how it needs to be. The player development pathway is working, with heaps of Victorians getting game time. I think the Rebels can string together enough logpoints to make finals which might just bring a few estranged members and casual fans back on board. I don’t know, it depends on what happens over the next few days.

'We've got three pay cheques left': Rebels given glimmer of hope - but the clock is still ticking

TWAS I did some reading of the Western United game day arrangements. They run shuttles from the station on game day for the 2 hours prior to kick off. I can’t imagine them not doing something like that for Rebels games.
Edit- shuttles every 20min from Tarneit, every 35min from Werribee, see here

'We've got three pay cheques left': Rebels given glimmer of hope - but the clock is still ticking

So how about some real journalism- such as what was the outcome of the zoom meeting with Rugby Australia yesterday?

What the Rebels players should be demanding to know, as Twiggy's ex-rival throws a familiar hail Mary

TWAS Brimbank Rugby club is about 25 mins by car. By what measure is that a “long way”? I grant you the Panthers community need to travel the western half of the Ring Road and that’s not pretty at the best of times. I fear that just like Richmond AFL fans, people east of Punt Road won’t travel west of Spencer Street. They never attend well at Marvel!

'We've got three pay cheques left': Rebels given glimmer of hope - but the clock is still ticking

Jimmyjones, I’d forgotten about Altona. I actually trained with them years ago, when the steering committee wanted to call them the Westgate Reds! There’s a lot to like about this arrangement, and I dearly hope it gets up.

PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club

I can see the the Wyndham City Rhinos, Melton, and Footscray Rugby clubs getting on board really fast, as well as some of the state rugby schools down that way as well such as The Grange where Daniel Maiava went to school.

PE backed consortium 'in final stages' to save Melbourne Rebels with $30m injection and link with A-League club

And since I made this comment it’s come to light a PE consortium from the A-League’s Western United are proposing a bail out with a base at their new boutique stadium in Tarneit. There’s a first time for everything!

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed

The Rebels haven’t given Pone Faamausili a run yet, can’t get past Talakai or Tupou. Wouldn’t hurt for one of them a rest to give him a run. Good to see Matt Proctor is on the mend too.

Super Rugby teams round 7: Bell returns but Tahs hooker gone for season, Jack back for Brums, Rebels' Leota blow

Does free to air matter? Channel surfing as we knew it isnt what it was, but I think yes, it does matter beause it will allow for more chance of the casual public noticing it. It needs to be easily discoverable. Even as it stands now, someone with a Stan subscription won’t see it unless they have Stan sport. I think also we have an issue with what some will see as the complexity of the game. If anyone saw the NRL education campaign re Las Vegas with Russell Crowe’s voice over there are easy ways to educate the casual viewer as well.
