I don’t feel that strongly either way about Langer staying or leaving. Think I’ll (probably unsuccessfully) avoid the cricket press for a few weeks. Mainly want to avoid the indignant ex players.

Justin Langer resigns as Test coach with immediate effect, camp blames 'faceless few,' CA reacts

Very much like his brother. Has firm views and never appears to be open to views contrary to his own.

'Incomplete and confused': Why Greg Chappell never reached the heights as a selector that he did as a player

I remember a few years ago telling him a few years ago to cool his jets or something after he went nuts over what looked to me like a fairly standard runout. He got a bit annoyed at me, maybe legitimately. But it was amusing.

'Absolute dog move' or 'very smart'? Cricket world reacts to Sixers' controversial final-over ploy

I thought it was great. I may be biased as I support Pink Sydney. But for a competition that has been widely criticised all year, some passion and controversy was great to see. It shows that there is life in the BBL, even though from reading BTL most Roar commentators (not me) hate it or see it as insignificant. A bit of rule interpretation shenanigans is not such a bad thing.

Whatever happened to Ronan? I haven’t been on here so much this season. I liked his work even when I disagreed with it.

Langer digs in for long haul, players silent – CA needs to make up its mind

Indeed. These speculations are always presented as if they’re presidential appointments that you can’t decline.

'Laughable': Root's blame game starts civil war with Morgan, 'perfect' Ponting wanted as England coach

I don’t like the idea of coach as boss. Langer has tried to turn the coaching position into something like a football manager, Sir Alex Ferguson or something. The players have pushed back on this. As far as I’m concerned the boss is Pat Cummins (and the other format captain/s). The coach has to be able to work with and for the players, especially the skipper.
It seems like Langer has backed off from being the kind of boss that he wanted to be, and mellowed his volatility somewhat. So maybe that will help extend his contract. Or maybe not.

Ashes Scout: Shock 'favourite' to replace Langer, suffering Stokes should be dropped for own good

There is no way someone like Punter would be interested in a gig like this, surely. He doesn’t need the money I would hazard a guess. He recently declined the India job because he didn’t want to make that kind of commitment. Seems pointless to throw his name at a job like this.

If Langer is a goner, Ponting must be next in line

I’d like Khawaja to be selected. Either he or Head would be fine. They both have leadership qualities which will be needed. With the upcoming series to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India I’d plump for Khawaja.

'Extremely concerned': Paine takes 'mental health break' putting him OUT of first Test with career in doubt

Crocodile tears from me for Tim.

'Appalling': Cricket Tas says CA's Paine treatment worst since Lawry was sacked 50 years ago

Remember when they selected the squad for the 1st game saying (or thinking) that the only change I would have made was Inglis for Wade. Not that I had issues with Wade, just that Inglis was just in such good form. But Wade’s experience and big match plays pulled us through today.

MATCH REPORT: Wonderful Wade's stunning heist sends Australia to World Cup final

T20 is not taxing on anyone. I’d love to hear current players views on that.

MATCH REPORT: Warner blasts Aussies into semis as Windies legends bid farewell

Players like Lara and Richards (my ultimate favourite cricketer that I saw play btw) existed in a time where they didn’t have to divide their time between three formats (maybe the tail end of Lara’s career, I dunno), or choose to abandon one to lengthen their career. So they had longer and more famous careers in Test cricket. This will probably affect people’s perception of Gayle.
Nevertheless yeah he’s not surpassing IVA for me.

MATCH REPORT: Warner blasts Aussies into semis as Windies legends bid farewell

Gayle’s had a phenomenal 3 format career. I’m OK with him being accorded legend status.

MATCH REPORT: Warner blasts Aussies into semis as Windies legends bid farewell

I don’t think Anderson, Broad or Wood will play 5 Tests. They tend to rest Anderson and Broad these days. I guess they may make an exception this Ashes. And I doubt Mark Wood’s body will get through 5 Tests. Ollie Robinson will play all 5 Tests I reckon.

‘Logistical jigsaw’: Selectors to make late call on Ashes squad

Depends who’s chasing. South Africa could chase a big target. Especially with a form player like Faf, and a great like AB.

Oh … hang on …

MATCH REPORT: Buttler blitzkrieg sees England hand Australia 'an absolute hiding'

I agree re Inglis. Wade isn’t the main problem. But not selecting Inglis, a player in such good form, is daft. Not that Inglis alone would have changed things that much.

MATCH REPORT: Buttler blitzkrieg sees England hand Australia 'an absolute hiding'

I don’t see it as a problem that he may not be available for every Test. Gilchrist did fine when Punter was injured. George Bailey captained plenty of ODI cricket when Clarke was injured. It would probably be a good thing having a couple of captains anyhow. The Test Captain does more than just the on field tactics. Cummins would be great at all the other stuff, communication, dealing with coaches, etc. From watching the Amazon doco he is more than just a supremely talented nice guy. He struck me as highly competitive, smart, mature. I reckon he’d be pretty demanding on his players, and all with a smile on his face. Smith, no. Labu, maybe later. Head, hasn’t cemented his place. Carey, if he’s the next keeper, maybe.

'An activity for sadists': Three hurdles Cummins must clear to become our first bowling captain in 65 years

I’m not putting too much store in Karen Rolton Oval stats.

Also he played for Sussex over the winter, 11 innings, 183 at 18.30.

It's on: England players agree to Ashes tour after CA calm COVID restriction fears

If none of these articles were written the last few days the end result would have been the same. England touring for The Ashes this summer. Not quite sure where they’ll be playing however. Some players may not be available. Usual pre-Ashes media stoush between opposing press packs.

They really are going to pick Head aren’t they. They want to. Good around the boys.

He’s a smart guy. When your team is as good as India is, or Australia were back in the day, you can be all alpha and aggressive. When you’re not so good it’s best to focus on getting better, and earning the right to get into people’s faces (if that’s what you want to do).

'We don't let anyone take us lightly': Kohli says England 'provoked' India into matchwinning form

Fascinating this response from Ussie. Whether you agree with him or not, he so often sounds like the adult in the room. Have to admit I’ve had enough of the whole thing. There’s plenty of blame to share around.

'It looks like guys in the team are stabbing him in the back': Ussie's big JL call

Langer’s mates (Gilly, Hayden) are not helping him here, just stoking the fire.
