Is Brian Smith still kicking??

The question Bennett needs to address before deciding if he wants to return to Rabbitohs

Quite a few comments here are what I agree with about LM. As for attention, after the Manu incident LM was asked if he should change his ways. His reply was that the game itself should change, not him. That’s putting himself above the game.
Returning from his USA rehab trip he said someone over there told him to be a showman and to sell himself. I suppose unloading profanities in a live interview is his version of showmanship.
He sees himself as a fullback but compared to others he doesn’t have the motor to be an exceptional No1. Blokes like Gutho, Paps, Edwards, Walsh, Brimson to name a few are all high octane FBs, a class above LM in energy. When he realises there is no “I” in team and plays centre for the betterment of his team he will be better for it.

Latrell is rugby league's clickbait magnet - and it's time to leave him alone

This could get very interesting. I find the bit about no drink breaks hard to believe as everyone knows the importance of hydration especially on hot days.
Some blokes are not cut out to be NRL level players through lack of skill or lack of desire to work hard. I notice Topine and Perrett were not top level. Could be they are chasing money they were never going to earn by playing.

'Everything got taken from me': Former Manly prop's legal action over excessive training could be tip of the iceberg

Good luck to Keary. He has been a wonderful player for both Souths and Easts. If he didn’t have a falling out with Russell Crowe he may have remained at Redfern.
With all the publicity about his concussions, it’s stated on the Fox site that the headknocks were not a factor in his retirement.
I wish Luke all the best for life after footy.

Roosters' 2025 troubles mount as premiership-winner Keary announces shock retirement

You lost me by saying the NRL is a workplace like all others. It is very different to other workplaces by a long shot. There is no 38 hour week for starters nor scheduled lunch breaks. The NRL is in the entertainment industry paying players huge amounts of money to perform at a very high level. In terms of physicality, not many other workplaces if any have a fitness criteria of the level required by NRL players to perform their task. If a player drops his standards the whole team can suffer. If a retail worker drops their standard the shop won’t suffer to the same degree as an NRL team.
Employees in other workplaces don’t go to work in front of thousands of spectators who have paid a hefty sum to watch their team perform. Those sets of eyes all expect their team to play well even if they lose, having a go and that means the players must be up to standard to entertain the crowd.
RL at this level is all about winning, having the players tuned up mentally and physically.
If we start calling the NRL just another workplace, that 38 hour week may as well come in and players taking smoko when they are told.
This young bloke gives me the impression he wants to be a footy player but not adhere to the guidelines required to be one. Next he will want pre-season training banned as it’s too hot.

Topine vs Bulldogs an important case for NRL and players - wrestling punishment shouldn't be tolerated in a 'workplace'

GB, I can see your point but you only sack people if there is someone better to take their place.

Storm slaughter second-rate Souths as 'a myriad of errors' hammer the final nail into Demetriou's coaching coffin

Top display from Melbourne with the big guns firing. Munster was superb alongside his other “big three.”
For Souths, they must keep the fullback in 1st grade as he is a more energetic player than Mitchell at No1. Nothing more to be said for them.

Ray Brown, John Ribot and John Dorahy were others.

RIP Terry Hill: Former Manly great, Origin star and cult hero dies in Philippines

Topine may have killed off his RL career with this action. By the sounds of it, he doesn’t have the inner desire, or guts as some would say, to play NRL level.

It’s incredible the size of players nowadays compared to yesteryear. To think we have halfbacks now the same size as frontrowers of the last century. Nathan Cleary is the same weight as John Sattler was at his peak. Many years ago I saw Kevin Ryan up close and didn’t realise who it was until a former North Sydney player I was with pointed him out. I said no way, he’s too small in physique. A centre, yes but not a feared prop. Even Neville Hornery who I knew from a pub he frequented was no monster and he was a maniac on the field.
That Brisbane pack would steamroll any pack od the 60’s and 70’s.

This current Broncos forward pack is a long way from being the best they’ve ever had - is it the biggest?

Huge loss to Penrith who have, for me, the best club pack in the comp with JFH the best front rower in the game. Going to the Warriors is a smart move by both, with the club replacing a top tier prop with an even better one and JFH returning to his homeland. Win-win for both.

Fisher-Harris on his way out of Panthers to join NRL rivals after 'one of the game's elite players' gets early release

Most of the Fox team are bearable with Ennis being the exception of course. He likes the sound of his own voice so much he talks over the game caller like a yapping mutt, not knowing when to button it.

Viewers need more of Paul the analyst, less of Fatty the class clown's cringeworthy commentating

That could be the vital point what you state here. Honesty with the medicos. With the lure of big money some might say a couple more head knocks isn’t too bad. The other side to that is if a player has had many minor knocks, is their judgment impaired and can’t answer correctly.
A very important topic Tony and one that needs to be front and centre in cases like Teddy.

'Don't put short-term needs over long-term health': After his tenth concussion, is it time for Teddy to hang up the boots?

This article has blindsided me as I didn’t realise Vautin was still on air commentating. The last time I heard him he was good value, adding humour to Sterlo’s expert breakdown of play. Maybe he has reached his used by date but the network must be happy with him.

Can’t agree with you about Meaney. The big problem for Melbourne on that side is that Warbrick comes inside too often giving a free ride to his opposite number. It caught my attention some weeks ago, I forget which game, seeing Warbrick not knowing where to go in defence. Meaney plays well at centre trying to cover for himself and Warbrick which isn’t working too well. Also, Melbourne don’t have the punch up the middle like in the past and this is causing Harry Grant to minimise his darts from dummy half. They need big Nelson back and fast.

Bulldogs grab moral victory, but Melbourne take the two points as Storm overcome Foxx hat trick in comeback win

Robbo is sounding like an authority on concussions. Granted, some of his club’s medical staff have travelled abroad to learn more, but It would be better if he left comments about concussion to the experts. Prof Chris Levi is a world rated expert on brain related matters and he’s only a drive up the road at Newcastle. He’s one person any club medico should have a talk to.

NRL News: Schuster granted personal leave, Mal expresses Souths interest as Demetriou fights to save job

That could be a good move for him to get back to 1st grade. Des needs some new stock and Schuster needs a coach’s love.

Amazing is right with plenty of pace. Good to see Stewart get a run making it two teenagers in the side.

Very good display from Canberra, very professionnal. Parra had no answer to a well drilled side, a team with speed to burn. Sticky has some serious talent there which will give many teams a shake. Ethan Strange has slotted right in to where Jack Wighton once stood and, is playing like a veteran.
Brad Arthur has some work ahead of him to get his boys back on track.

Red-hot Green Machine respond to Ricky’s rev-up to steamroll over pedestrian Parramatta

He has a problem of some sort to do the stupid things he does like elbowing SJ then apologising, lifting TH after the tackle was complete and last week whacking JAC, injuring him then kneeling down with him in sympathy. If he gets his ego back down to earth, applies himself to his trade like a pro should he could earn the moniker superstar, but at the moment he’s barely a 1st grader. While suspended he should flog himself on the fitness paddock and get rid of that spare tyre around the girth. Maybe then he’ll have the motor to play fullback.

Latrell cops lengthy ban for high elbow hit on Johnson as Souths coach laments 'stupid' acts

Well said. His talent shone better when he was at Easts playing centre. His desire to play fullback has come at a cost to Souths.

'I don't know what goes through Latrell's mind': Mitchell on report twice as Wahs dominate sorry Souths

I must disagree with you saying these two could give Penrith a fright. Defensively, that game was a shocker. Attack wise, good for the highlights reel but you must stop the other side from scoring to win games. Melbourne don’t have the power in their forwards to dominate many packs and it shows with Harry Grant’s darts from dummy half not as effective as when he had a strong pack. Brisbane have some classy players to come back and they will need them if they are to be a threat.
