Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear. I’m sure you’ve heard of the saying “Show Me The Money”. Channel 10 are all bar bankrupt, Channel 7 are in the same boat, Foxtel are awaiting the liquidators and the NRL are penniless. Channel 9 have much more money than all the others. We’ve all heard Vlandys talk about having a contract etc etc. But we haven’t heard him utter anything about how much money the NRL are going to get. Rest assured it’ll be Channel 9 and Foxtel showing the games with Channel 9 telling Vlandys just how much they’ll pay and Vlandys accepting whatever they say. He talks a good game but thats all it is…..talk. Channel 9 can survive without the NRL but the NRL cannot survive without Channel 9. All the posturing of Vlandys amounts to nothing when his negotiating position is nil. Channel 9 will pay as little as they can get away with and the NRL will accept it because they have no options.

No matter what went wrong, it's totally not Peter V'landys' fault

It’s not negativity re NRL but a picture of how Vlandys does business.
Clearly as i’ve articulated, I don’t like the way and question the long term result that is much more important than the short term. I understand that some thought always needs to be given to the short term but it’s absolutely inevitable that change must and will occur. Starting with less money for all and no doubt in my mind that there needs to be and will be a culling of some teams.

He does seem very blinkered in his approach. Borrow money from whoever will lend it, get the game on as soon as possible with whatever deal can be done.
The issues are many and varied but essentially all boil down to desperation.
What are the terms under which the money was borrowed?
How much money is the game getting from this deal for this year?
What are the terms of the deal moving forward?
Has he sold the digital right and if so why and at what price?
He seems like a one trick pony. Bully and bluster which can only work in degrees and not all the time. It’s always a short term fix and not a long term solution.

Walter, Nine (who are struggling) have much more money than Foxtel (who are stoney broke) and Seven (who are looking for a pot to …. in).

“The game is worth what the game is worth”………..correct. Unfortunately the game is worth a lot less than it used to be and given the times we’re in, it’s worth even less.

Get used to the fact that players, administrators and the clubs are all going to get a lot less money this year and moving forward forever.

“The game is worth what the game is worth”

"There's a contract in place": V'landys hoses down Nine speculation

Jimmmy, touche. We can agree to disagree and have good debate. Some of PV’s doings has shown a lot of short term vision. The implementing of race fields tax whilst allowing bookmakers to plagiarise the tote product was shoddy and has cancerised the tote product.

The Everest was/is all about one-upmanship. It’s headlines for a while but only really helps the breeders and not the battlers. It propagates inflation at the top end of prize money whilst eroding everything else. Once again short term thinking. trying to “buy” goodwill and long established traditions doesn’t work.

A restart for the NRL when they’re bleeding cash is vital as it is with any and every business. Are the NRL getting the best deal they can or are they desperate for a deal, any deal. I’d hate to be the NRL CEO because there’s not enough money in any contract that would pay enough for the sore neck you’d get from looking around and behind you to see where PV was.

Jimmy, i’ll go through things in a point by point basis.

(1) The NRL starting on May 28 only means just that……it starts on that date. Does it equate to more money?………..no crowds for the early rounds and probably the middle rounds at the earliest……….less money for the NRL product now and if media rights are sold off, well then it’s a fail.

(2) In his push to get more money in the short term for racing from the bookmakers via race field payments he facilitated the slow demise of TAB tote turnover by allowing bookmakers to use tote dividends.

(3) Equine Influenza was the problem that was eradicated by the NSW Chief Veterinary Officer using the AUSTVETPLAN. Peter Vlandys was just doing his job, nothing more and nothing less. He was no Messiah.

(4) The Everest will go the same way as the race it was modelled on (no, it wasn’t VLandys brainstorm) ………..grow for a couple of years and then like a lead balloon, drop from the heights of Mt Everest to the ground.

(5) NSW racing is a segment of Australian racing……ipso facto. Australian racing is proceeding and Peter Vlandys is one of numerous administrators who’ve helped it to happen. He’s no Messiah.

(6) Just because the NRL will start before the AFL doesn’t mean it’s the right decision. First movers advantage is only good if you capitalise on being first and remaining first. Just where the NRL is monetizing being first back in play I don’t see. Are Channel 9 and Foxtel paying them a premium for being first……no. Are they going to have crowds back before all the other sports…..no. Does it look like they’ll sell off their online arm cheaply……probably.

(7) All the rhetoric that the NRL would be broadcast……and watched all around the world because it was the first professional sports back on is 100% totally wrong. Who is going to get up in the middle of the night or very early morning in Europe to watch it………a few men and their dogs. Who is going to watch it in the USA……..the cousins of the few men in Europe but without their dogs (i think dogs in USA maybe smarter than those in Europe).

Was “Legs 11” in Shoot or was it another magazine?

How the 1970s made me a football tragic

DAVEC, the players should get gaol. Not som much for these offences but for being f****** stupid.

Players partying and going camping risk blowing it for all of us

When it came time for Vlandys and his yes man Abdo to show some steel all they could come up with was some aluminium foil. As i’ve stated previously Vlandys is comparable to Trump when it comes to throwing people under the bus. It’s hard to trust Vlandys, when every time we see him he’s got a bottle of snake oil in his hand.

Players partying and going camping risk blowing it for all of us

Don Salami is good……..Is Don

Don Trump is bad……Bad to the bone.

Potential player boycott throws NRL return into doubt again

Didn’t anyone tell Peter Donald Trump Vlandy’s that the devil is always in the details or does he expect us all to live by the journalist credo of “Never spoil a good story by telling the truth”. Dear oh dear oh dear…….the gift that keeps giving.

Potential player boycott throws NRL return into doubt again

I agree with your date being the best starting date. It allows for all sorts of timely events to occur. Public acceptance and not just Rugby League tragics. A good pre season followed by 15 rounds, finals, a one week break and then 3 SOO games. All of this will give the greatest possibility of crowds later in the season with an early December finish. NRL should accept the inevitable that there has to be and will be “haircuts”. Accept that and then “rip the bandage off” and move on.

NRL hopes TV talks are done by end of the week

My apologies William, what i meant to write was that the Bundesliga is set to resume early May with the proposed date being May 9. All the other competitions sometime later. Of course the NFL is due and more than likely to resume in September as is normal.

NRL hopes TV talks are done by end of the week

Poorly written by me………Bundesliga set to resume on May 9 not 5 and others in sometime later but probably June onwards.

NRL hopes TV talks are done by end of the week

Bundesliga, NBA, NFL, EPL, La Liga, Serie A……all set to resume with Bundesliga on May 5

NRL hopes TV talks are done by end of the week

Just read that a small soccer league is due to begin on May 9. this small league is just the 3rd or 4th biggest in the world. German soccer is the small league. No doubt people will be flicking the channel to watch the NRL instead of German soccer…….or maybe not.

Two very simple question for everyone. If you’re a fan of the AFL, would you prefer to have Peter Vlandys running your game or Gillon McLachlan? If you’re a fan of the NRL would you prefer to have Gillon McLachlan running your game or Peter Vlandys? Please try and be honest as possible.

Does the next NRL broadcast deal spell curtains for Nine and Fox?

AFL confident they can lock in 2020 plans before end of April

Crosscoder, the AFL were able to go to banks to secure $600m whereas i’d imagine after going to banks and seeing the bank manager rolling on the floor in fits of laughter the NRL slunk away and have had to seek funds at a higher rate.

Does the next NRL broadcast deal spell curtains for Nine and Fox?

Spruce Moose, i’m confident that some restrictions will be lifted and peeled back bit by bit from start of May onwards. That’s just my opinion mind you. That being the case I can’t see any reason why if the relevant government organisations agree with the protocols that will be used by sports organisations to get back up and running then fair play…………..Tara, as a life long North Sydney supporter and now just a watcher of the game, it is my game of choice. The way the game is run is pure amateur hour stuff.

AFL confident they can lock in 2020 plans before end of April

Then all he had to do was say that they’d resume the season as soon as they get the go ahead not give a date that they’re unlikely to achieve. Let alone without consulting teams but more importantly where the money comes from………..broadcasters. Vlandys may have been good for racing but has led like an erratic autocrat in his capacity at the NRL.

Craig Bellamy is right - settle down with the ‘innovations’

Who in their right mind at this economic time is extending an extremely low rate as a loan/line of credit to anyone but most certainly not to an organisation who have shown to be as negligent as the NRL have been with money. It’s close to certain that whomever they get money from will be charging them like the proverbial wounded bull.

Does the next NRL broadcast deal spell curtains for Nine and Fox?

Better than Vlandys opening his mouth first and then thinking later.

AFL confident they can lock in 2020 plans before end of April

Three words are apt description of NRL plan……..Pants…….Seat……Flying

AFL confident they can lock in 2020 plans before end of April

At last we’ll see a professional organisation give a detailed plan as to when they’ll start, how many rounds they’ll play, where the games will be played etc etc……………Polar opposite to what the NRL have done. Please don’t label me a NRL basher as it’s my sport of choice it’s just that it’s managed by blind people with sycophantic, myopic, self centred cretins leading the blind
