Ha, perhaps.

Brisbane's best day of 2018

Brisbane playing on free-to-air television, and winning. Am I dreaming?!

Come on lads!

An oversimplification, but certainly money has too much of a part.

Why Cricket Australia should keep their word to the Bangladesh Cricket Board

Waugh was always one to see the bigger picture in terms of cricket’s growth.

Why Cricket Australia should keep their word to the Bangladesh Cricket Board

That’s what I was wondering, considering Bangladesh’s status in cricket is growing. I won’t claim a surety of full stands, but I don’t think there would be a lack of interest.

Agree with pretty much all the positives you list.

Why Cricket Australia should keep their word to the Bangladesh Cricket Board

Yeah, one is due to them, considering that this is not the first time Australia has been less than happy to fulfill its Test obligations to them.

The decision was made independent of the ban, but you’re not wrong about the consequence.

That’s speculation, as far as I know. Personally, I hope that is not the case. It is not completely implausible. India’s recalcitrance as it relates to not releasing players for overseas leagues has been listed before as a reason for a couple being cancelled (Sri Lanka and South Africa, in particular).

Slander is defined as making ‘a false and dangerous statement’ about a person, and you described Stephen’s listicle as such. You did not highlight a single example which you thought could demonstrate that he was guilty of that charge. Worse, you then proceeded to conflate slander and criticism, which are not the same, and carve an entire profession whom you hypocritically believe you can slander.

If that is ‘the good Aussie character’ you speak of, then it deserves to be eroded. And I’m saying this who was disappointed with this article.

Nine reasons why I'm not on board with Justin Langer's appointment

It is also now much harder for Australia to justify playing ODIs in the place of Tests in the UAE because they have used that as part of their justification for this decision. My fear is that we’ll have another ludicrous situation where pure ageism will determine who is in a Sheffield Shield team, like last year when Ed Cowan was dropped by NSW.

What is striking is that he is the last figure from 2001 still in the same position of power, and that has been the case ever since the retirement of Brad Haddin. I still think Australia would be heavy favorites in such a series, but now we may never know. Not playing Zimbabwe in Tests is excusable, given that they have demonstrated an indifference to playing Tests, but this is much harder to justify.

See my earlier replies regarding Kohli and Australia’s batting line-up. Regarding the BCCI’s decision not to play a day-night Test, it shows its power used an insular way, but I am not convinced it has led to the worst result, if used properly.

Why not ask them? Cricket Australia has email addresses and contact numbers. I didn’t think to ask that particular question.

Thanks. I will defend Kohli, as strange as it might seem, because he is doing it to improve his Test team. Australia’s decision does not do this.

I doubt it was fear of Bangladesh. Even without the banned trio, I still had them as 2-0 favourites. Perhaps arrogance though.

That is why I noted the paywalling of some BBL matches with interest – all the stories of fan burnout last season may have been an influencing factor.

I’d say that last point is pretty hard to avoid. I can’t think of too many Australians outside Cricket Australia’s umbrella who have expressed support for this decision.

Well, I live in Bellerive. I’d rather stays indoors today!

But yeah, it’s a bad decision. Sutherland is like a soccer player who can only receive yellow cards.

The only thing I can add to the other Paul’s comment is that your point about players having to tread a higher moral threshold than administrators is a major part of the reason as to why I wrote this article.

Yeah, I have to agree. They stressed the cricket side of their argument when I talked to them – but broader interests would have been served by keeping this Test tour. There are consequences when you make decisions like this as well. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m watching more rugby league at the moment as they are trying to make their sport more accessible. That doesn’t excuse its faults, of course.

Not sure I follow your logic, David. On the one hand, you argue that Australia has the best T20 tournament in the world. On the other hand, you argue that Australia needs Chris Gayle in that T20 tournament, even though his presence in other leagues hasn’t helped them, by your logic, become the best T20 tournament in the world.

Also, how do you differentiate in quality between the T20 leagues?

Tasmania’s one-day bowling line-up could use Sandhu. There are a lot of quicks but not many suited first to one-day cricket. Must admit that I thought they would pick Maddinson as well – for the same reason.

How can Nic Maddinson not get a state contract?

As a Brisbane fan, I can’t wait until we face Carlton. Unfortunately, that’s not until Round 16.
