Just something I’ve noticed this year that teams who do that normally win. Not that surprising, of course, but couldn’t find relevant stats on it.

Where is best place to look at statistics regarding how many times the team who has more marks inside 50 at quarter time goes on to win the match?

No one pretends that AFL is easy but lord almighty has there been some inaccurate kicking so far this round.

It surprises me that there’s no effort to differentiate between tackles on the basis of difficulty.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the reply. It gives me a different perspective on why rugby league players and the Channel Nine commentators hate the crackdown (which I have no problems with) – they have gotten used to fluidity and the benefits for their team. Who would be the first five players you would pick based purely on quick PCM and PTB?
What is behind getting post-contact metres?
Which leads to the question: do coaches know what the average post contact yardage is for a player of Fatiala-Mariner’s size compared to someone of Cook’s?
I should mention at this point I’ve never seen a rugby league training, but do they use those big mats for that sort of training?

Not only may you divert, I welcome it. Sport does not exist in a vacuum and, although I disagree with that specific analogy (for example, the defining characteristics of an illegal immigrant are much broader than what constitutes an NRL player), don’t take that as an indicator that I wish to hear no analogies.
Having only just started taking more notice of rugby league, I am unfamiliar with its history. Without overlooking that, your idea sounds like a sensible one and should be experimented with at lower levels, with a view to being an NRL law next year.
We have a new game, hopefully for the better
Agreed. The only part I can add to that is that it is strange when enforcing the rules is considered a problem when those rules are not in question.

It has always been a source of interest to me that someone NOT doing his job should be the source of praise. How many times, for example, have you heard the heard the comment that the referee of a football match is doing the right thing by throwing his whistle away at the tight point of the match?
I don’t know much about Greenburg, but if he is the right person for the job, he won’t take much notice.

Once before Cummins did something special to deny the South Africans their coveted series victory against Australia at home at the Bullring, but he’ll have to top that now to save this series.

No that I could see South Africa enforcing it, but could you imagine the psychological lift it might give Australia if they do force South Africa to bat again?

Wonder if that’ll change if they persist with AFLX (I really hope they don’t)? AFLX, if it went overseas, might attract more gambling interest, which might lead to new statistics for that purpose.
