Mahler……That’s BS. The economy is to blame….. 😂 😂

The death of active support will be the death of the A-League

…………….or how can Basketball compete with MIND NUMBING drums of the A League

Mainstream sticks the boot in, but A-League can't help but delight

# joy of X
These guys talk football up like its a monolith sport in Australia, yes its the biggest football code in the world – DER!………….. we know that but in Australia its a minnow by spectator and financial standards, played by a lot of kids who give up after 15 years of age.
I’ve been following EPL for 40 years, no question, its fantastic and I love it (Go you Spurs btw!)

What exactly is football's reward for starting late and skipping international breaks?

“During the past week, in Australia, this is some of the LIVE football that was offered for consumption & engagement:
A-League, EPL, Eng Championship, SPL, LaLiga, Bundesliga, SerieA, Ligue1, UCL, UEL, u17 World Cup, u19 Women’s Asian Cup, u19 Men’s AFC Qualifiers, MLS, NWSL, JLeague (including Ange Postecoglou’s club match), Euro Qualifiers, Women’s National Team Friendlies”

…………..and yet 98% of the Australian sport loving, consuming population would not have even known it was on, let alone watched any of it.

What exactly is football's reward for starting late and skipping international breaks?

OMG …………..a football fan with common sense…………….. I dips my lid to you RBB! 😊

Ten years ago the phoney code war went ballistic

I choose not to.

Ten years ago the phoney code war went ballistic

a bit bold of you saying that about RL/Tonga Chris!
……….its possibly similar to Socceroos being lower world ranking than minnows Tunisia & Nigeria.

Major League Soccer is what the A-League cannot be

It was meant for you 😔

Fun factor back in A-League opening rounds

Tow the party line birdman…………..no infidels allowed on the football tab 👎
Disgraceful!

Fun factor back in A-League opening rounds

The Melb City v MVC derby is slowly losing its gloss! The round 1 game was ordinary, did not produce any where near crowd numbers from previous years and rated poorly .

It’s about time Sydney stepped up and rekindled much needed derby hype and excitement.

The A-League finally has a derby to rival Europe

@Chris
“AFL, NRL and cricket fit that ( over 55) demographic perfectly so it stands to reason their preference to push those sports.”

How would you know what the demographics of the 3 codes are? seriously Chris thats just BS!

Wishful thinking I’m guessing!

The newly independent A-League failed its first test

I tend to disagree here Waz. Foxtel promoting to subscribers will do nothing to increase ratings and/or appeal to viewers. Football needs to make itself the “go to” sport of choice in summer, but its not doing anywhere near enough to be that.

A-League owners have taken two significant missteps

No one should expect that Geelong folk will follow WU – why would they?
People are not that stupid.

They have no connection to Geelong and when they get their new stadium, goodbye Geelong. Same with Ballarat. The early entry strategy, with no home base for 3-4 years, is so flawed

Mark Rudan and Western United will surprise many this season

I reckon he would be better value than some of the blood suckers the come over on huge money i.e. Tim Cahill & David Villa.

No sentiment in football as Besart Berisha snubbed

5:15 Saturday is a grave yard slot………..me thinks there no money changing hands here, freebie!!

The proposed ABC free-to-air deal and the new A-League teaser are right on the money

@ Midfielder………..there is no such thing as clean air!
Sporting events occur all year round – just schedule the season when it suits A League, surely the power brokers of the game are brave enough to do that?

Is it time to start the A-League season in September?

Agree Rolland
My view is that the Cricket Team and the Wallabies have always had & will always be FTA visible. The appetite for these teams is strong if not insatiable. The socceroos have peaked many times in terms of viewer appetite however never quite reaching year round TV commercial appeal.
Having said that ………………FIFA World Cup is the exception – but the early qualifiers are very Ho Hum

Has anyone noticed the Socceroos aren't on free-to-air TV?

Rubbish…..the same fans watch every week ……no increase in 5 years. There’s the metric you should focus on.
A League needs FTA – end of story.

This season's A-League draw is a work of art

Ok ….so how do you maximise “TV Metrics” when A League is almost exclusively on limited subscriber pay wall transmission via Fox / Kayo & Mobile based devices.

Educate me !

This season's A-League draw is a work of art

“A schedule to maximise TV metrics, not sporting excellence”………..not sure where you coming from here? – it’s not on TV …….and may not be if Ch 10 don’t come in soon!
The fixture is structured to maximise crowds – nothing more, nothing less. Most competitions do it!

This season's A-League draw is a work of art

Stuart, How does it benefit Oz Football?
What have they done in their time here that would remotely substantiate that comment?
Nothing in my opinion………….. remember David Villa – total contempt for the A league

Melbourne City: It will be different this time around, I promise

Surely no one is falling the true reason this team exists?
CFG is here for their own benefits …………….. not for the benefit of Australian Football

Melbourne City: It will be different this time around, I promise

Geelong , Ballarat & Tassie too – Western United more like Western Diluted.

It's the most important A-League season ever - so let's see a fixture list

If you all think Gallop was “the only” problem, you’re all delusional.

Confirmed: David Gallop stepping down as FFA CEO

“………….The ALeague will be run independently. The FFA not only has a 20% share in the New Entity but it will also have veto rights to stop any decision that is in conflict with “Good For the Game”.
Well, won’t that be a seamless transition?? All from the past is forgiven, yeah right……………….. the bitterness and hate of the 2 entities has historically been “THE” problem and still exists.

Will an independent A-League actually work?
