Mitchell Moses has wanted the opportunity to lead a team and now he has it. The kid has shown at times that he has some talent, I just hope this is the year he proves it once and for all. Perhaps early on if he shelves that ridiculous no look pass that hits the centre about half as often as flies feet behind him or over the sideline then we may have reason for optimism. Great to have Junior back too he is a wrecking ball. As with all Eels supporters, for me in February hope springs eternal…

NRL 2019 season preview: Parramatta Eels

Eels are only 1 win behind melbourne, NQ, and Easts we are still good.

What's the matter, Parramatta?

The knock back nonsense isn’t just NRL either. In my desperation for a footy fix in the off season I took to watching the Soopa League. They have the touch footy rule over there too where if the ball hits the turf regardless of whether it is 6 foot behind the guy dropping or not not it is a knock on. Your reference to the “harum scarum” will be prophetic when epic try of the year contenders are being disallowed due to what i can only assume is an attempt to make the refs jobs easier. Where’s the bunker when ya need it…

Matt Lodge booed as Dragons bone Broncos in the tunnel of love

I am not quite sure why this couldn’t wait until they had retired which seems the way of these things throughout the world of sport. Little doubt the pair are worthy of the honour in my mind but this does unfortunately leave a funny taste in the mouth.

A night with Cam and JT? No thanks

Professionalism has brought size and strength and considerably fewer skin folds than the days of old. As you said yourself, dont “lament the good old days because often they werent”. I loved Rugby League then and I love it now, I guess now there is just more of it to love.

Rugby League has evolved like a primordial fish that can now drive a car

Jarryd would look great in a Roosters jersey. 600K if that is correct seems a lot for a winger and really that’s what we would need him to be. I would love to know exactly what BA really thinks about all of this.

Hayne Plane: En route to Parramatta

“..it’s clear what matters most to you, Jarryd Hayne, is you, Jarryd Hayne.”
Why should it be any other way?I don’t understand what he has done so wrong? Does every Buzz Rothfield beat up mean this kid has to be heckled from the stands? The Eels didnt want him when he returned from the US, the Titans drove a truckload of money up to his front door, good luck to him.

The vexed adventures of Jarryd Hayne the human plane

Thanks for a very interesting read. A funny thing happened to me when in Germany a couple of years back. I was wearing my Eels jersey whilst shopping in the town of Jena (shopping for beer as it was) and was approached out of the blue by a guy of Indian descent who told me that his brother lived in Sydney and was a supporter of his local team in Cronulla. It was one more person than i had expected to recognise a rugby league shirt in Germany so just maybe there is someone over there that would know who Paul Gallen is 🙂

Who will contest the next Rugby League World Cup?

Thanks mate, I bet that grand final experience of watching it with ya kids was fantastic even with a less than ideal result. Kids these days have such a short attention span and we live in Brissie so I always fear that one day i will come home from work and find the lad got sick of losing and I will catch him wearing a Broncos jersey. Would break my heart.

Why are people getting behind the Eels?

I wonder whether the impression that the Eels are being treated differently is gained by being a fan of the eels rather than any actual difference from outside. I copped plenty from my mates who support other clubs, and fair enough, no sympathy there. I personally had a ball laying into the Storm after there many years of blatant cheating was exposed. I feel like the Eels case was different but I dont expect (or care if) other fans agree. We committed an offense and have been punished, now we move on.
I am fortunate enough to remember well the glory in the ’80’s, I was in my teens and those premierships and the time are my fondest memories of the greatest game of all. 30 years on my 6yo son is a mad Eels supporter and I would love for him to experience a premiership and have those sorts of memories for himself. We can dare to dream…

Why are people getting behind the Eels?

Hayne is in a contract year. Whether he actually wants to remain in the NRL in the following years (or tomorrow) is anyones guess but if he was ever going to put in it would be with a shiny new contract on offer. Kevin Walters would be mad to not take this opportunity, if the GC are fair dinkum he will get free rein to run things as he pleases and he has several very good players he can build a squad from. I wish him all the best, hopefully whomever takes over Qld will make a hash of it and NSW might win a series or two in the next decade.

Kevin Walters must try to raise the Titanic

Mary i would question whether any offer was made by the Eels to Hayne upon his return. BA was fairly clear in saying that Jarryd wasn’t going to fit in with the plans he was putting in place and that the money not spent there could go into retaining several young players with long term futures at the Eels.
The guy was very talented but could never successfully make the conversion from fullback to half like great ones do AKA Lockyer and Sterlo. There were many times I loved what Hayne did in an Eels jersey but I cant imagine ever looking back in 10 years time and putting Lockyer and Hayne in the same sentence. 1.2 million is half money for mine, Lockyer/JT standard half money.

Should Hayne stay or should he go?

I definitely take your point. However as you said the conditions were diabolical and the match was well in hand. With the injuries to Kaysa/IDG at hooker and Gutho at everywhere in the back line I wonder if one more injury wouldnt be terminal to the Eels chances. If not going for the throat contributes to a healthy squad i would be OK with it. As to whether they actually have that next gear available to them where they could step up and destroy teams I am not so sure? Whether it can be attributed to putting the cue in the rack or just simply that they gave all they had to give I suppose we might find out over the coming month or hopefully two.

Twelve talking points from NRL Round 22

I for one have no problem whatsoever if the Eels only continue to “do what they need to do” all the way through to October.

Twelve talking points from NRL Round 22

I was one of the 47000 that tuned in on Sunday morning and i thought it was a good game of footy, NSW were excellent and well worth their impressive victory. I was blown away by the standard of rugby league played in the womens games during the 9s earlier this year and this Interstate Challenge again really emphasised to me that the NRL have a very good product in the making. I genuinely hope that the powers that be handle this well and that all of the stakeholders are provided what they need to continue on the road to making a national competition a reality. And thanks Mary for the informative article it was a great read.

What's next for women's rugby league?

I agree with much of what you say Mary. I do think some of the vitriol aimed at Hayne is not called for but I wasn’t disappointed he wasn’t brought back to the club. He did some fantastic things for the Eels and I believe he truly does love the club, maybe being back at Parra might have meant he wouldn’t have been looking elsewhere 5 minutes after arriving. But it is all water under the bridge, like yourself i wished him all the very best when he chose to walk away. He is from all i can gather a quite decent young man and I certainly hope he finds what it is he is looking for, but for this Eels fan too, for the good of the club, i am glad he is elsewhere.

This Eels fan is glad Jarryd Hayne plays for the Titans

For an outside back it seems like they might have reached a bit, 3 million ouch. I guess in their position they probably need to reach but I can only assume for that money this kid is a future half?

Paul Green confirms young gun's Cowboys exit

Watching the great racing that was on show in Shanghai it made me even more disappointed that Audi will no longer be participating. As much as I enjoy the GT classes there is something genuinely exciting about the sheer speed that the LMP1’s bring to the table, watching a Ferrari 488 be overtaken like it is standing still by a Porsche 919 shaped blur to this day blows me away. It would really be a sad day if the LMP1 class was lost to high costs and the gimmicky carrot of Formula E being waved before the manufacturers. And thank you for your articles on the WEC Trent, content can be slim pickings so I really enjoy reading your stories here on the Roar.

Where to now for WEC?

I really enjoy reading your astute opinions on the weekend races andrew, this weekend I put my money where your mouth is and all I can say is that if you are ever in Brisbane you are owed a beer or 3 🙂 Well done and long may it continue.
Also props to you Cam, love the preview it has become part of my weekly routine over the Carnival, happy punting to all!

Caulfield Cup 2016: Full race preview, tips, and selections

I must admit to being far more interested in the FIA EWC than Formula 1 but I have have watched a lot of F1 this year and found it quite enjoyable.
It does puzzle me as to why so many F1 Grand Prix are scheduled on the same weekends as EWC races (even Le Mans!!), is there not enough weekends for both series or is this a deliberate attempt to create competition? I am afraid until the neverending Lewis Hamilton worship dished up by the F1 commentators is a thing of the past I will stick with my sleep depriving version of our great sport 🙂

The year F1 ripped my face off and I loved every moment

I love the choice of the Peatsy moment, But if I get a homer choice for the list it is the Eels resigning Brad Arthur for a couple more years. After the year from hell it was the one thing that made me think this year wasn’t a complete catastrophe, just 99% of one.

The ten biggest moments of season 2016

Jarryd Hayne to the Gold Coast…

Five of the NRL's worst career moves

I played an awful lot of junior cricket on synthetic tracks, I wonder how the shortening of pitches works on grounds which have Gabba grass but are used for both Junior and senior fixtures. Seeing the attitude of my sons to Cricket I certainly don’t object to changes being made, in fact I think they are urgently necessary but I do wonder how shortening the track is going to improve young cricketers against spin or the moving swing/seam deliveries. I always thought that playing on turf from a young age would be the best way to aid those skills but I do appreciate that it is not always practical.

New junior rules will significantly change cricket in Australia

It struck me last year that the reliability right throughout the WEC was amazing. This year not so much….
I cant imagine any team is brimming with confidence leading into the biggest race of the year. Double points on offer, if the Rebs did manage what would have seemed a miracle 12 months ago and outlast and defeat the hybrids it would certainly make for one heck of a championship this year if nothing else.
Dont think it anyone could think less of anyone for throwing a few dollars on just that hapening!

Le Mans 2016: A bookie's nightmare?

I smoked cigarettes for 30 years, i am now on day 95 without them. Cant say how much better I feel for it.
I have supported my beloved Eels all of living memory, I cant give that up. Can’t say how rotten i feel for this but if it in any small way drags us from 30 years of futility maybe this will all have been worth it.

Parra, we're breaking up - and it’s not me, it’s definitely you
