Mate the Crusaders once bought their own referee to an away FINAL (Suncorp 2011). He proceeded to let Brad Thorn get away with tripping Saint Quade and McCaw with his usual (illegal) breakdown shenanigans, plus called back a perfectly legitimate Reds intercept try.
Both those calls today were correct by the way.

Beat them at Suncorp in 2011 in regular season

Reds snap 25-year drought in Christchurch to beat Crusaders as Wilson, Ryan star

Prick of a day for Australian rugby yesterday:
– Both SR teams well beaten by kiwi opponents
– Promising young players heading overseas, denuding us of depth
– Melbourne Rebels financial mess ongoing, looking like no winners
Lets hope for better today.
Just saw the 7’s teams both won both their games so thats good.

Blues turn it on late to smash Rebels as gun young lock finally stands

Same as Kailea, excellent young prop and prospect who needs to be retained in Australian rugby. Is there an Australia A program after Sr this year? He and Kailea need to be part of it if so, long with Schoupp, van Nek and Nonggorr.

The five Aussie young guns who should be celebrated - and the one who is ready for the Wallabies

Strongest agree on Kailea. A genuine prospect. MUST be retained in Australian rugby up to 2027, particular given (unfortunately) Angus Bell’s frailities.
The other 4 are certainly excellent prospects. Lynagh is like his Dad (dderrr) in that as he gains more confidence he’s beginning to run himself and take the line on a bit more this year. He was close to a couple of clean breaks last weekend. His game management very strong and kicking high quality of course.

Lol Hunter has his best game all year and this appears. What a time for Australian rugby supporters.

Exclusive: Wallabies star weighing up big move to England

That may well be the best for Carter and Aus rugby since he’s been capped. Probs good for his game, he’s still young.

Wallabies' young gun mulling NRL switch as Rebels' future continues to cloud picture

Reds will go on losing these close games until they gain more composure and smarts in the last 10 minutes – loses at the bell to Canes, Brumbies, Blues, set against the Chiefs win. Just my view, but they are really missing James O’Çonnor in these situations. Both the Reds scrum and lineout bled several penalties/turnovers on Saturday.
I would love to know if, as one of the commentators mentioned, the Blues had alerted referee Dolman to the Reds early feed to the scrum in that strange penalty. I would also love to see clear video evidence that the ball was dropped i.e. clear evidence of separation, in Suli’s non-try.
As to the Rebels situation, its a quagmire. But for years there was unsustainable expenditure and profligacy in that organisation as other people’s money was spent and the bill deferred. I can’t really see how the proposed new structure will change that. Threats to sue and bankrupt another entity (in this case RA) are telling.

The Wrap: Rebels young gun rockets out of Wallabies contention, and why Samipeni Finau's 'brutal' hit on Edmed was fair game

I like Dylan but he’s no out and out speedster. Unlike Ryan.

'Run-on debut like no other': Junior Wallabies flyer announces himself to the world after stunning hat-trick

Disagree. Got a bit of added speed. His last try was electrifying stuff, watch him turn and leave current starting All Black winger Mark Telea floundering.

'Run-on debut like no other': Junior Wallabies flyer announces himself to the world after stunning hat-trick

Stunning hat trick of tries.
But one of many Reds who let themselves down with their capitulation in the last 10 minutes. The Blues breakout try at 31-20 should never have happened.

'Run-on debut like no other': Junior Wallabies flyer announces himself to the world after stunning hat-trick

Fair enough though the main coping mechanism/consolation for Tahs supporters is pushing their Tahs players for automatic inclusion in the Wallabies, despite the side losing and being outplayed. Last night it was Swinton and in the first half, Marky-Mark.

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

He also only launches these shots when the player turns to the side and the flyhalf has eyes elsewhere. You don’t see him launching these massive shots when the player runs directly at him and is aware of him. In other words he knows when he can launch his cheap shot on a vulnerable player who, let us not forget, in every case, has passed the ball.
For now he’s perfected the tactic and in the eyes of the referees hasn’t got it wrong, apart from being penalised for Lynagh’s hit. Clearly its a high risk/high reward play. For now its working. Edmed was rattled and for the rest of the match stood noticeably deeper.
IMO he should have been penalised every time and at least carded on Lynaghs. But the far more knowledgeable and professional adjudicators see it differently. Until they don’t.

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

Disagree. I whinged with the best of them about the late, illegal hit on Lynagh Piru and the Reds won that night.

No ALF and no explanation for the 4th tournament in a row is a bit of a worry. Just my opinion, but I don’t think they can win the Paris gold without her fit and firing. Huge test for the remaining players – the Levi’s and Bella Nasser will need to have a presence in the middle and at the breakdown.
NZ now clearly ahead of them and going well to defend their Tokyo gold.

Olympics calling? Son of a gun called up for Singapore Sevens, Walsh loses gun experienced duo in test of depth

Who won your Saffa schoolboys match btw Harry?

Five surprises, five disappointments and five things to figure out as Super Rugby 2024 reaches the end game

Interesting on the kicking stats. Lies, damn lies and statistics … Tane defined by his misses against the Highlanders and (yes a field kick I know) the Drua. Unfortunately.
Everyone, including me, not YET writing off the Saders …

Five surprises, five disappointments and five things to figure out as Super Rugby 2024 reaches the end game

Not at all.
I also love it in rugby league that these days you can guarantee ye old Japan and French rugby interest in every NRL player up for contract renewal.

Wallabies in danger of losing Hanigan to ambitious French club just as forward enters his prime

Effect on the Wallabies 2024 squad? I would argue close to zilch.
After ridiculous promotion early into the national team because he was mates with Hooper and the Cheika clique, took some easy yen before returning to the Tahs. Works hard and is a good SR player but not a standout. Not a test second rower and there is plenty of depth in his positions. As a starting blindside flanker – Valentini, Wright, Swinton, Tom Hooper, Leota. As a bench utility covering 4,5,6 … LSL, Holloway, Uru, Rodda. All better options than Ned, who I know is a good fella and personality.
Tahs will miss him for sure and the sort of player you want around.
Good luck in French Division 2 if he goes – still a bit wild west there from all accounts.

Wallabies in danger of losing Hanigan to ambitious French club just as forward enters his prime

Agree. I very much hope he stays at the Reds.

'It's disappointing': Petaia's Super season over - and it could end his Reds career

Thought Jordy was having his best season for the Reds. What a shame.

'It's disappointing': Petaia's Super season over - and it could end his Reds career

Great to see Rodda back on the field but he has a long way to go before returning to the Wallabies. Lets see him play the rest of the SR season and maintain high standards first.

Five things: What Beale has over other golden oldies, double pain for Brumbies as Blues expose Australia's biggest weakness

A big contributing factor for the demise of the old SR format with the Saffas and Argies (for a couple of seasons) was inconsistent and often inadequate officiating. Home town refs and officiating in other words. Australia, South Africa and New Zealand were all guilty of this, overseen or enabled by a too often complacent and smirking SANZAR officialdom. It devalued the integrity of the comp and the fans engagement. So you are right to take the 2024 officials to task Geoff and lets hope there is improvement and consistency.
Agree with you about the Reds … a funny night, very convincing win on the scoreboard and at the the ground they appeared to be in control at all times, yet seemed to lack finesse/quality. Guess we’ll find out next week how the Reds are against one of the frontrunners, the Blues. The Reds blew their last front runners game at Suncorp against the Brums with really poor execution in the final 20. Lets hope firstly the Reds can be competitive and still in the game at the hour mark. Then to use the modern rugby term beloved of the coaching group and leadership groups, more accuracy … that means don’t drop the ball, don’t kick out on the full, don’t give away stupid penalties. What else comes under the “accuracy” term?

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

For sure. I think Gordon, Lolesio, Donaldson, Lynagh, Harrison, Edmed are all in the mix for Wallaby 10. All of them are fine young rugby players with real talent and ability. All of them still inexperienced with some clear work on areas.

Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check

Yes they’d be my two frontrunners for the Wallaby flyhalf position. After this week.
But its very even … so the selection and then coaching critical!
