Many thanks Harry, your analysis is always good to read. We Scots are completely relaxed at being talked down. History shows its when we play best. Some things are in the breeze, you cannot quantify, nor get yer heid roond. But look out Big Fella, under estimate at your peril. And, if you smash us, beers will still flow in unfathomable quantities between the “committed” on both sides

Weakest links, not superstars, often decide World Cups: So where are the fatal flaws in the top 10 contenders?

Thanks Harry, my expectations are also for the low road. But…that is when Scotland usually turn up (as opposed to being turnips). Glad to see Luke Crosbie coming through, bit of the Fin Calder about him. At risk of being ostracised, I would take a win over Wales (which is doable at Murrayfield) ahead of beating England.

Will England fix the Eddie malaise, which favourite will flop, who's going to be the top 10? 6N burning questions

Well, this has all left a bad taste in the mouth. But here is a thought, DR still has a lot of friends in Scotland and Townsend is out of contract at RWC and likely to be replaced. Rennie knows the Scottish squad very well. What price on him coaching the Scots versus Eddie and the Wallabies? Would have more spice than a dodgy curry!

'Disappointed I won't be able to see out my contract': Rennie wishes Wallabies well despite brutal sacking

Fair questions. I remember that 2003 campaign well and the performances afterwards where all the top teams had Eddie figured out. It was painful. I was very happy with Eddie coaching England as his record against Scotland is appalling, something I suspect Borthwick will fix. I did warn Australian friends that Rennie had not fully delivered at Glasgow with a good squad at his disposal. If Eddie couldnt make England work, lost the fans, the media and his Board….then I dont see the magic wand. Note that the new England coaching team have been vocal on delivering clarity about what the team is trying to achieve – why would that be an issue if Eddie is the best coach in the world?

Day the music died: Personality clash that led to RA culling 'Kumbaya' Dave for a 'feral, mongrel genius'

I am surprised the case of Siobhan Cattigan has’nt surfaced on the Roar yet. Scottish lady international who got a head knock too far playing in an international. She suffered massive personality change and is now dead. Her parents and partner are taking the SRU to court and this could be volcanic. It is a super tragic case (not handled well to date by the SRU), and one that could be a rapid vehicle for change perhaps in all codes

Concussion Legacy Foundation Australian launch ups the ante for football codes

Like Laurie Fisher a lot, but is he not a pack specialist? I remember Matt Taylor from Scotland days and our defence improved considerably when he left, but who is calling the defensive shots now for the Wallabies?

Seems to me Scotland and Australia have been stuck together in the rankings for quite a while, and they have similar issues. Both flatter to deceive at times, both have player depth issues, both can beat anyone at home, but both are liable to have their trousers taken down playing away from home. They are two of the more entertaining teams to watch though – and long may that be the way, win or lose.

Rugby News: Wallabies bring in Brumby after coach's departure, Mallett urges Springboks to change tactic

Objective, that 84 side was from a different planet. I do think Lynagh and Larkham would qualify as great Wallaby 10’s who both won RWC’s playing behind good packs.

'He's devastated': Everything Dave Rennie said about brutal JOC axing, Foley return, what next for Noah and 'grumpy' Boks

Seen all the great Wallaby 10’s. They had the luxury of a pack who could at least make parity. When i watched the game on the weekend the pack provided no platform, so difficult for a 10. Poor back 3 selection was also evident. Thor would be the first stroke of my red pen, has not stood up on a single away game. A good 10 has always had an intuitive hinge with a proper open side 7. Talent is there but not being developed.

Footnote, Dave Rennie left Glasgow in a poorer state than when he arrived.

Great to see Murrayfield bouncing again. England fluffed it, but they are a young side mostly and will bounce back hard. The U20 game was also very good with both sides showing some good young talent coming through.

Guessing Scotland may overtake Australia in the rankings next week….

Scots pip England to retain Calcutta Cup

Shame about the Jamie Ritchie injury, but back row stocks are good. I think the Scots have room for improvement.

As for England, I really can’t see what EJ is trying to do with this side.

ANALYSIS: Eddie out flanked, Finn Russell clutch in the moments that mattered as Scotland triumph

He sure did Peter. Interested he picked out Alan Martin as one of his quality opponents. Given some of the other UK locks at the time, I would have rated others ahead of him

Andy Haden All Black: A legacy as big as the man

I remember those games from 1978. As a neutral in some games, I often go for the AB’s (bit like Brzil in soccer), as they tend to play at the level of the gods. That line out dive shattered my innocence at the time as it seemed a blatant bit of cheating that went rewarded. Didn’t like that.

That didn’t stop me liking the Fearsome Beastie that was Haden. I was a schoolboy on the touchline at Murrayfield on the Grand Slam game and was terrified of him and unfortunately Gordon Brown was injured. We almost drew that game with McGeechan having a drop goal charged down at the death and the AB’s breaking out from the rebound and scoring a try. Pitch invasion at full time was memorable….and very, very wet!

Andy Haden All Black: A legacy as big as the man

No the Sth dont have a lot of power. Check out the revenues from the 6N and the crowds they bring in for English pemiership. If the Sth all refused to play at Twickers, who do you really think would suffer?

Why Michael Hooper should have been World Rugby's player of the year

Thanks mzilikazi. Roy Laidlaw is actually a very cheery character, great break at the back off scrums. Sadly has dementia now and he took a very serious head knock v Ireland. Rutherford was like Larkham, ghosted past tacklers and developed a great kicking game.

Hastie and Chisholm were pre my era. I started (I think!) with Dougie Morgan and Colin Telfer. God I hated going down to the Borders to play those smaller clubs….truly painful every time.

'Rocky, heaving, but brutally beautiful': What we learnt about every RWC contender in 2021

Only they didn’t play together. Chic Chalmers/Toonie was fly half with Armstrong and Hastings.

Rutherford (best Scottish 10 I have ever seen), was with Roy Laidlaw and late period Andy Irvine/Peter Dodds

Both “spines” delivered Slams, so by definition, better than the current crop

'Rocky, heaving, but brutally beautiful': What we learnt about every RWC contender in 2021

Lot of complaints recently in Cardiff games of too much grog and numpties with daffodil heads spoiling it for others. Poor little bloke had a drunk vomit all over him that got a lot of media attention

Why it's not all doom and gloom for the Wallabies

I agree JD Kiwi, also they have had a run of red cards for their opposition which I think has masked some of their failings. Legacy of Gatland maybe, look like a team searching for a plan

Why it's not all doom and gloom for the Wallabies

Lucky you, its just the one war then!

The Bok fan is not normal: Why everything rides on this battle with England

Now Harry this is a perilous cul de sac you have ventured into. I am sure you would concede that us Scots define their season v England much more than the Boks do. We have had centuries of it. Hell, when the England football team play another country, that same country’s shirts sell out in Scotland. But I must say this obsession can hold you back and cause you to gloss over failings when you sit back and say “we were humped in Australia, but that’s OK we beat Engerland”. That approach has held us back for years, just check out the lyrics of Flower of Scotland….

What is concerning though Harry is that due to Rassiegate, playing style and yon wee wumin medic/coach/injury inventor, the Boks have completely lost it with neutrals. Noting above comments, you will understand my shock in Scottish Rugby Forums where there is swelling support for England this weekend. This never happens. Much more of recent behavioural form and the Boks risk challenging England’s pariah mantle

The Bok fan is not normal: Why everything rides on this battle with England

Harry, that was quite the ride, don’t think I have ever seen so many themes in a rugby article. I do think you missed a trick with submarines though, should have pushed through some good gags around national sensitivities.

Mozart is my favourite classical composer. Maybe his struggle to produce operas in his native German as opposed to the norm of Italian would have been a good pivot to the competing national instincts of players born in one country and playing for another.

Anyway, wishing your Boks all the best for a warm welcome at Murrayfield, the Thistles hopefully are a bit better after the hit out last week. Watch for young Rufus McLean. Excitement machine.

We start every match knowing there will be pain, joy and struggle, so outcome matters more than process

The clue is in the name I guess! Proud Scot and Australian, when it comes down to this game it will always be blue. I will be Australian again around about kick off time at Twickers this weekend…..

Wallabies vs Scotland: Did I see what I needed to see?

Not any more delusional than some of the expert pre match predictions who reckoned the Wallabies had some Weapons of Mass Destruction!

Wallabies vs Scotland: Did I see what I needed to see?

Totally agree with last paragraph. But, please dont change…..we like it that way!

Wallabies vs Scotland: Did I see what I needed to see?

Thanks Machooka. From our perspective, we were happy enough with the display despite the squad only having a week together. Happy with the new guys coming through, particularly hooker and second row. Disappointed we didn’t make more of some quality line breaks, but that will come as the squad gels. I thought our back row got the better of things which contributed to Valentini being quiet
