There were quite a few comments before this game on how the Scots would be bullied by the big Oz pack. Er, no. There was no mention of the Scots breakdown in Nic Bishop’s preview, I thought that was odd at the time. How does calling Scotland an “entree” and a “canapé” on the tour taste now?

Very happy to see some of the new talent being bloodied by Scotland. Ashman, Bayliss, Henderson, McLean etc etc. Just what you need 2yrs out from RWC.

I thought that the true test for the Wallabies was playing away from home, hostile crowd and adversity. They will hopefully learn a lot from this game. Their set piece is definitely not as dominant as they thought

MATCH REPORT: Wallabies will be 'filthy with themselves' as Scotland end winning streak

Yes. Gray and Cuthbertson both out. I dont think the Scots pack will be bullied

How the battles, and the beasts, have changed since Australia first played Scotland

Yes and no. He was a super mobile prop ahead of his time.

David Sole. I spent a weekend with him a few years back. He is very proud of his place in rugby history!

You’re suspicion that Scotland won’t hold Oz to less than 4 tries…..not if the defence is like the last 6N.

Matt Taylor was a terrible defence coach with us, much better under Tandy. Compare the stats.

I was in the West Stand in 1984 for the Australian Slam game. A great memory. First Aussie game was 1975, a bit poignant with the recent loss of the great Sandy Carmichael.

I think it will be a braw game as usual.

PS Australia v Scotland trivia question. A Test between them saw the last 6 point try scored in international rugby. Can you name the player without google assistance?

Nae worries, just keep talking yourselves up like the Poms. Thats the way we like it

How Dave Rennie’s Wallabies are pushing the limits in contact

No. Its the normal tiresome one eyed hubris

How Dave Rennie’s Wallabies are pushing the limits in contact

Nice to be described as an entree and a canapé. Keep talking yourselves up ahead of coming to Murrayfield. Whilst I would make Wallabies favourites based on being together longer, the home team are going to be well up for putting one over Rennie/Johnston/Taylor whom they know inside out. Scots are more formidable under Tandy/Townsend and at last are comfortable playing without the ball. To my mind, big test for Wallabies is away from home. Murrayfield has very often seen a bonfire of the vanities in the past.

How Dave Rennie’s Wallabies are pushing the limits in contact

Too soon. The side is reasonably settled, shame Cam Redpath is out, a real talent.

'We're trying to bring them home': Everything Rennie said on Euro star strategy, brutal youth cull and Kurtley call

I really dont know what to expect with the Scotland Test. Quietly, the Scots have a pretty good record against OZ. Interesting here with the whole Oz coaching set up well familiar with the Scots and vice versa. Oz should be favourites as this will be the first hit out for the Scots. Should make for a good Test, 2 decent teams

Game was lost upfront. French set piece was improved, their lineout defence made a difference. The imbalance in the WB backrow was a factor. As a whole, the French won the the gain line battle with ease and looked to have a pick and go that was damaging.

Still think Tupou is overrated. Wasn’t allowed to bore in as much as usual, slow to his feet and tried to put in a couple of king hits that he got wrong putting the defence out of shape and made him look foolish. Needs a proper tour of the NH to sort him out.

Couldn’t help watching these two Tests and thanking the Good Lord that the BIL aren’t touring here just now. That squad would cause carnage touring Australia

WILL GENIA: 'Absolute machine', 'Slow under pressure', the Wallabies' good, bad and ugly

So what you are saying is that Super Rugby as it stands isn’t giving players enough professional rugby? What “circumstances” are you referring to other than Giteau rule and injury? Otherwise, who is in the half of the team missing that is not chasing the $ overseas and therefore ineligible?

The seven blokes you mention are not the spine of the French side, that said I was happy enough to see them start in the last 6N game where they lost to the side in dark blue in very similar circumstances to last night

Wallabies winners and losers from frantic French Test

As a keen 6N watcher, this French XV was a shadow of a shadow team. I agree with many of the points made by the author.

Furthermore, Tupou gets away with absolute murder at scrum time. Heaven help him when he comes across a ref (most likely NH) who likes his props to scrum straight and have a proper contest.

Be interesting when the first French XV turn up.

As I said, tired chat.

Happy to lend a Scotsman to the AB’s though even though he was born in Edinburgh and not Aotearoa. Let those with purity cast the first stone, and I reckon that would be SA

Four Scots named in British and Irish Lions team

I wee bit tired this chat. Same flips the other way for Aus and NZ with their use of PI nation players. Note the Kiwis also have a Scottish born boy in their new squad – go figure

Grateful to SA, who dont depend on imports, but export a lot of top grade beef.

Isn’t economics a wonderful thing….

Super Maro had his last club game at the weekend and has joined the squad too late for inclusion in this game. Same holds for a lot of the English players.

Scots crowd won’t care. Historically we had lots of top players in rugby and football to chase big bucks down south or elsewhere. Always thus, nothing new.

I think this is a massive test for Duhan, the Japanese speed and width will test his weak defensive play.

I do know Richie. West versus Jordanhill was a must see club game. Carmichael head to head with Mighty Mouse – ouch. Remember seeing West v Ulster at Burnbrae, McBride v Broon. McBride held court in the club house afterwards, soft voice, puffing pipe with the biggest hands in which a pint of guiness looked like a thimble.

Lions versus Springboks: The history of the British and Irish Lions in South Africa

Good read. Phil Bennett at scrum half would be a collectors piece!

My wee bit of Lions. I played juniors at West of Scotland RFC, home of Broon fae Troon and one Sandy Carmichael. We trained with first squad on Thursday nights. Gordon was just the best personality and it could be hard to believe his transformation when he got on the pitch. Sandy was a hero of mine, as a tight head he could take the entire weight of the scrum on his left leg and hook with his right.

I went to the Lions v BaaBaas game at twickers in 77 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. First time the Lions played on British soil. I wore my West shirt and was at the players entrance when the Lions arrived. I can still feel the warmth from Gordon’s smile. I think, due to injuries that may have been the last “big” game he played. His tragic early loss still hurts.

Dont think Watson would unbalance the back row you have picked. Puts you in mind of a modern day Fergus Slattery. Difficult to say how many Scots will make it, I just like the fact that there are way more in contention this time. Agree on the 2 injured hookers though Fraser Brown is back from injury. I thought George Turner did really well and could be a surprise pick.

The selection trap the British and Irish Lions must avoid

Good stuff Highlander. Super Mario has been a super penalty machine and not been bossing games. Henderson has been in top form. Actually, I would have been happy to see Paul McConnell go on tour as line out specialist – Ireland greatly improved with his arrival. You cannot ignore the Metres Carried for Watson, the size argument is nonsense (1 inch shorter than McCaw), but god does he lift a team when he tucks the ball under his arm – something stats cannot highlight.

The selection trap the British and Irish Lions must avoid

Worst performance against the Home Nations since 1976 and yet you have 12 Englishmen? Form does not warrant this. Too many undercooked Saracens in that pick bar one. Saw nothing from the entire English front row through the 6N, form is not with them. Marler is retired and should stay there. I would have Chris Harris over George North, works very well with the Defence coach. Tuilagi not convinced. Sam Simmonds is my bolter

The Lions have a selection headache

Agreed on Russell, he was Okish. Funniest one I have seen is a bloke aged 42, with a very manly beard, who said he had been waiting 38 years for this to happen and put up a picture of himself blurting like a big bairn! Too funny.

Eddie Jones still can't explain dismal England

Been watching England for years, since the 70’s. They typically only ever have one game plan and matches they lost are where that game plan is neutered and they are left bereft of both plan B and mostly any clue what to do. Strangely enough, this was a feature of EJ when he coached the Wallabies – all heavily structured and choreographed. When teams deciphered the EJ code, there was no plan B. Scotland took on England with a pro player base of 100 v a pro base of 500. Putting game plans aside, he clearly did not select form players eg the Simmonds boys. Seems to me he has some accounting to do to the RFU. Game plan(s) and selections look awry.

Eddie Jones still can't explain dismal England

Mostly agree Highlander. Jonny Gray has benefited from his Exeter move, the player who stood out to me was George Turner as third choice hooker, excellent game.

Russell will always divide opinion. He will never fit in with coaches with a rigid plan A mentality such as Jones or Gatland. However, I thought Scotland changed game plans between halves and Russell was a big part of that. He is always a genius move away from a brain fart, but when that fart does arrive, his confidence is never dented. He may be a Shakespearian flawed hero, but he will do for us!
