hahaha that embarrassing, their the fools and they are demanding a refund.

Different attitude is QLD football however, where by all reports only a few thousand bandwagoners from other codes walked out on the A-League grand Final. I along with the football fans stayed put, even at 2-0 with 5 to go.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

pffft. QLD commentators: Vautin, Lewis, Tim Gilbert and prior to now Ikin.

NSW Commentators: Phil Gould and Peter Sterling

Neutrals: Andrew Voss and Ray Warren

Gould praised the NSW defence when the held QLD out for 6 consecutive sets. How is that biased?? that is stating a fact, yet all QLD fans do is blow rasberries about it accuse Gould of been biased.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

firstly, the increase in the amount of QLD players in the national side has seen the loss of the ‘World Cup’ and the Tri nations both at home. No excuses.

Secondly, ‘crap’ NSW gave QLD a very good run for their money in game one this year and were 10 minutes from winning. It is your attitude that QLD are amazing and NSW are crap that has assisted in my change of allegiance. QLD fans were saying that all during the lead up to the game. And after the super close match that it was, the attitude still hasn’t changed. Misplaced arrogance is what i call it, and this is why i have changed my allegiance.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

yeah i’ve wathced an origin game. Kennedy was laying motionless on the ground, typically a sign that some is unconcious. Who was it then mr origin expert??

yeah as i said, i’ve hardly missed a game since 2002 and watch it with mates.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

well they are channel 7. They think the whole world revovles around them

Biased reporting is nothing new for football fans

to be honest, your probably right in the regard that i focused largely on England. This article would have gone on for far too long if i was to discuss the Holland’s of the 70’s and 80,s. Argentina of a similar time. Real Madrid in the 90’s….

The main point was to highlight that mass changes occur in the style of football throughout history and we are entering a positive transition at the moment

Is the global style of football changing?

In response to the last couple of comments:

– I am not bagging Lockyer, i simply remember thinking he was the best player in the world when he was upstaged by Johns.

– The actions of Poore are news to me, as it was Waterhouse’s ‘tackle’ which was labelled as cheap by the courier mail and he was painted as the enemy.

– If you watch the footage, Waterhouse went in with his arms out straight and his head up. Last time i checked the technique for tackling involved tucking your head down, leading with a particular shoulder and and having bent inwards prepared to wrap around the player. Waterhouse, wasn’t shaping to tackle Price, just seperate him. That said, he should have focussed on seperating Poore not Price.

– The Poore incident as described is identical to an earlier incident where Ben Kennedy was knocked out and Thurston picked him up by the shirt on his back and dropped him again.

– It isn’t just decisions in favour of queensland which have turned my allegiance away. It is the lack of recognition that these mistakes where in a favour and then saying that the blues are whinging when they point them out. Then how suddenly, if it’s the other way around, the referee’s have long favoured NSW. Hypocrisy

– You need not look further than this site to find the ‘we’ll smash them’ attitude. Look at the State of Origin 1 key match-ups article and the comments.

– Thaiday was sin-binned for tackling a NSW man from behind while the ball was in the air before Gidley caught it. That’s what the commentators said it was for

– Gidley is punched by Thurston and Myles during the tackle, that’s what sparked the final brawl

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

Are you talking to me or BennO?? Becuase he clearly hasn’t seen it either.

If the incident is what you are describing, the maroons did a similar thing a couple of years earlier.

Remember when Ben Kennedy was knocked out on the ground and thurston picked up his jumper on his back then let him fall again? Identical to the incident you just described to me

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

Maroon Blood, as i said i only really started wathcing origin since 2002 so i won’t be able to recall any decisions earlier than that. Yes we have had a 5 series winning streak, but we sure have had some help and have been less than graceful in victory.

As for Justin Poore, i’m about to look up the incident on youtube now, must admit, i haven’t heard of it. All that was reported was, ‘Trent Waterhouse coming in from the side and tackling Price from his blind side’. i thought that was the so-called cheap shot

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

BennO you misunderstand me mate.

I am QLD through and through except for rugby league, that is becuase the attitudes from us Queenslanders during origin time is embarassing and i don’t want to be associated with it as a queenslander.

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

good comments oikee, but i don’t think i’ll be changing back any time soon.

If there was ever a time i would change back to been a QLD fan it would be now wouldn’t it? when we have won 5 in a row.

Sadly, the same old poor attitudes has alienated me from this side and i can’t see myself changing back any time soon

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

Mike, simply fantastic article, i was just about a write a piece about the latest patheitic work from the media.

How can he be allowed to make up ‘facts’ on the spot on radio, it’s an absolute joke and trumps to Kyle Patterson for emberassing him and letting everyone know who much of a fool he is.

Channel 7’s story about the game on Wednesday night went like this: “It wasn’t all friendly in Melbourne between Australia and Serbia as countless arrests were made during the teams 0-0 draw”. The footage showed some flares and Serbian fans chanting, plus one missed chance from Australia.

No comment about how entertaining it was, who the young stars were, the performance of Federici. Just pathetic, biased agenda driven reporting.

Biased reporting is nothing new for football fans

haha as i said, we have a good laugh and banter wathcing the games. I think i would be much less popular if the Blues actually started winning though!

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

yeah mate, i don’t mind the cowboys, u get the feeling that the whole of townsville is right behind them at every game. I loved the Fury as well, too bad they were cut from the competition

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

nah mate, i watch the origin with all my mates and we have a right old laugh and banter

Confessions of a Queenslander turned to the Blues

i have to agree with you in the regard of the 70’s and 80’s, there certainly wasn’t much if any diving. That’s why i am largely saying that diving has decreased in the last 6 or so years, as i stated in the article.

I’m not sure about diving from Spain the world cup final, there was certainly niggle from Spain and some nasty fouls but the Netherlands really should have had van Bommel and De Jong sent off.

I can’t remember any diving from spain really, if my memory is wrong would you be able to provide a link to a video showing it?? because i can’t recall any on the night.

cheers

Is the global style of football changing?

that’s true about Inter Milan.

I think there will always be teams who opt for the defensive style of football and stick to the long ball. This is what makes watching teams like barcelona etc so enjoyable.

Is the global style of football changing?

I hate to say it but i disagree with you about having a second A-League tier been beneficial.

Relegation would ruin a team both financially and on the field.

There would be less people at the games, less media interest, commentary and the players would leave and attempted to be signed by a club still in the top flight.

It only really works in other countries becuase there is a deep rooted love of their team almost regardless of their position in football.

Are super clubs the way to go in Australia?

I have to agree with you guys about how it would work better for regional teams, it really be interesting to see how the Newcastle idea work swith Tinkler. I was largely using the Moore Park example to portray what one of these site’s would look like and who would be involved.

Cheers for the feedback

Are super clubs the way to go in Australia?

The Facts are that Barcelona and Real Madrid are not dirty, cheating teams that everyone beleives they are. I have watched countless games of their’s in La Liga and there is no play-acting whatsoever.

These two games were like the world cup final to these clubs, there is so much pride at stake.

In finals you often see a tense match where teams do not play as well as they did in the tournament, the last couple of FA cup finals and the World Cup and Euro finals are examples of this.

Football will always be the beautiful game, sadly though in the grandest of occassions the intensity of the match can overwhelme the players causing them to differ from their true style

Stopping the clock to move the goalposts

I agree with your 1 and 3 points. However, the 2 one is blatantly not true as they beat Madrid 5-0 earlier in the season with the only controversial moment coming when Ramos hacked Messi down as was correctly shown a red card. No Materazzi style there.

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

yes busquets does dive. Considering that there is a sissi of the week means that there are 51 other weeks were a different player get’s sissi of the week.

Busquets dives, however he is clearly not the only one.

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

It is good to hear that somebody else also spotted all the diving from Di Maria in that game. Alves coped a yellow card after one of the many dives he took.

Gotta say, Alves deserved that yellow card after the over-reaction to the foul by Pepe.

Jose Mourinho: the hypocrite

Great Article mate. I am abit tired of seeing poorly reported news about football, or just blatantly anti-football reporting.

The fact is that had the socceroos lost that game against Germany there would have been more coverage of it, there would have been more comments like “Australian soccer put back in it’s place”, “proves that the socceroos can’t mix it with the best”. The general media gives me the feeling that they want to see football fail, and it really annoys me.

In regards to bias, a recent article in the Australian was rather amusing. There were discussing the size of the AFL deal in relative world terms. They were listing some examples of other competitions In order of most expensive tv deals per year the order was: 1. NFL, 2. EPL 3. NBA 4. AFL, 5. UEFA Champions League…

The funny thing was that the only the rights for the Champions League in the UK were included. Why was this? How come in every other of the tv deal figures the used the whole competition figures, but not the champions league?

Obviously because it would have come in well ahead of the AFL’s deal. Although this is no big deal, it is just amusing when you see a clear agenda in a newspapers reporting. As bias as the opinion section is, it was pathetic that they would also have to edit statistics to help suit the agenda. This kind of lousy bias needs to be alleviated

Football's quality versus quantity

barcelona vs shahktar was really controversial wasn’t it! not.

There was no controversy in the round of 16 last year against stuttgart, there was no controversy against arsenal last year in the quarter finals, there was some controversy both ways in the semi final last year.

There was no controversy when they beat Man Utd in the final a few years back.

Maybe you should bang on about a Chelsea conspiracy after the ‘goal’ against tottenham last night. Oh wait, your a one eyed Chelsea fan!

I’m sick of arguing with you mate, your arguments are hollow misinformed and very narrow.
