the whole jumping without using the arms is to clarify that there was no other place that his arms could have been.

In regards to alves, Please explain the biomechanics of how a touch to the throat of a person causes them to lose their footing?

Players get at each others throats quite often whenever there is a scuffle there is always grabbing of the upper part of their shirt and pushing etc. It only becomes an issue when a player takes a dive becuase of it trying to get the referee’s attention.

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

Don, did you look at the title then comment??? Some of your remarks are embarassingly clueless. In the article i suggested that ONLY ONE of these calls MAY have been because the referee was obstructed.

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

mate, i watched the footage of every one of the comments i made above. How do you think i was able to describe all of the build up so well. The problem is that so many Chelsea fans believe that Drogba is god and he must be right. I know numerous people who think that Chelsea blew the whole game out of proportion.

The whole Malouda Alves scuffle started was outside the box, the was slight contact of Malouda throat but Malouda was all over Alves anyway. Besides when you are touched on the throat does that cause you to fall over??? I don’t think so. Yeah the ref blew his whistle when they were in the box. Have you heard of the advantage rule? If there is no advantage the ball is taken back to where the foul occured. There was no advantage, so he took the ball back.

btw, as the name suggests i support brisbane roar largely and i watch the champions league. I think there is largely a case of tall poppy syndrome in relation to barcelona.

p.s please post a video of yourself jumping in the air with considerable height without using your arms.

mate, you obviously didn’t read the whole article, you are obviously a chelsea fan and and you obviously don’t know many of the rules. Please refine your knowledge of football before criticising the referee

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

Man Utd have a long history of getting penalties in the last few minutes at Old Trafford. that is a fact, it’s been going on for like 20 years. I agree with you there.

Please explain how Toure’s tackle was a clear penalty??? it was the biggest non-penalty of the match, a perfect tackle in the box. look at the footage on youtube.

Also, in regards to the Abidal claim, the famous British commentator Martin Tyler, who despite being a commentator would have liked Chelsea to get up (understandably) said that “Drogba always wanted to go down didn’t he”. It was as i said 50/50

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

Don mate maybe you should watch all the footage. Firstly in regards to the blocked view. The ball hit pique’s right arm, he was facing side on and his right arm was facing his own goal, The referee was perpendicular to the way that pique was facing. If the ball had of hit him in the left arm he would have seen it, but pique’s right arms was on the far side of his body, unseen by the referee. I already commented that the linesman should have seen it…read the whole article next time.

In regards to the La Liga penalty, it was clearly a penalty and a red card as i described above, it was perfectly in accordance with the rules. Daniel Alves was given a yellow card, his first of the match. It was a yellow card becuase the player was moving away from goal, even if he is the last man, it doesn’t mean that it is a red card!

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

had Barcelona had their blatant penalty given at the Nou Camp they would have won 1-0 at the nou camp. Barcelona would have progressed on away goals.

Mate as i said in the article, over the two legs it was an even match

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

Hi Elliot,

Please enlighten me as to how there was a 50/50 chance of the third claim being a penalty. The only only contact in the box was a flawless nothing but ball tackle. Please enlighten me with you knowledge.

Also please tell me what the three obvious penalties where, one of them was the Pique one, please tell me the other two?????

cheers

For Your Information:

-Football (soccer) was the first of the so-called codes to be created, and they gave it the term football, so it is the original football

– AFL, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Gridiron and predominantly played with the hands so the name football doesn’t really apply to their sports

– When Rugby was first starting to be played in England, the name of the oval shaped ball that they use was called ‘A Rugby’. It was not even ackowledged as a ball, becuase prior to the formation of rugby, a ball was only considered to be round.

– Over time adapted sports have been made from this original football: football was the first to use the concept of kicking a ball, sports since then have simply edited the rules to use a oval shaped ball, running with the ball in you hand, placing or running the ball over a line or kicking it through enormous goals.

How these sports can steal the basic principles of football, change the rules considerably and still claim it to be football is humourous. To then try to tell that the original football that it’s name is incorrect and they own the rights to the original name is embarrasing.

Looking at the word Association Football, which word looks more suited to this title? Football or some made up word called Soccer. Football of course.

Football is the original football, the one actually played with the feet and the one the whole world but the USA and Australia call football. It’s football mate

Why it should be called soccer, not football

Hi Tom, you say that it is a fact that Chelsea should have progressed, please present you evidence.

Cheers

Debunking the Barcelona conspiracy

there was diving from both sides. Daniel Alves got a yellow card that was incorrect because of a dive from Di Maria. Although Di Maria didn’t writh around holding his face, he commited the most amount of dives in the match. In two of them he simply jumped over Alves leg and onto the ground. He later kicked the ball ahead of Alves and intentionally ran into him before falling theatrically to the ground. This is quite an ironic video. It was an ugly match, there was diving from both sides

Real Madrid "prove" Barcelona cheated

what about Gerard Pique in defence?? he is genious, the best defender in the world. What about Xavi? Consistantly does the most passes in the champions league and has been rated as one of the top 5 players on the planet and possibly the best midfilder

The UEFA Champions League's best XI

I think maybe 20 articles ‘against’ the AFL would suffice after that pathetic piece of work by The Sun-Herald. “Soccer Fans the Worst”.

Demetriou calls the kettle black

Tony, a great read mate as always. I think the only thing missing in the A-League is the quality off the field organisation that we see in the MLS. In terms of football quality, the A-League is superior to the MLS, however, the advertising and marketing done by the MLS is near flawless. We need someone from the inside of the MLS to give us a marketing and management touch up. Your thoughts Tony?

Ten top things about A-League season six

Got to agree with you there Art Sapphire the greatest hat trick in history. Not ust for beauty but for importance. That last goal, considering all the importance of it, and the way it was scored, it is the greatest football goal ever!

My dream hat-trick of great goals

This rubbish from the Herald Sun relates back to exactly what i was talking about in my article Media to Blame for A-League Struggles http://www.theroar.com.au/2010/09/30/the-media-to-blame-for-a-league-demise/.

This pathetic ‘reporting’ is what is costing the A-League dearly.

Good article champ

Herald Sun's fear and loathing of the A-League

Fussball ist unser leben – are u telling me that u haven’t ever seen a flare lit on the northern end of the stadium. If u bothered to read the rest of the article you would have found that i do appreciate the great support of the victory – the drums etc.

As for the swearing guys, i am not some kind of anti-swearing nazi. My point was that swearing is fine in tense moments in the match which contain frustration. However, it is the uncreative swearing at goal kicks and opposition fans which is the problem. The support would be much more appreciated by the players if it was supporting them, instead of nating the other team. Also, it really isn’t funny any more. Especially the goal kick rendition, BORING!

Fine line between fans and hooligans

Just to clarify a few things, I went with the title “Brisbane Roar’s over Every Hurdle” but that was changed to what you see above. The whole point of this article was praising the Roar’s achievements in the A-League this year, not start a furious debate as to who is the greatest team in Australian Sporting history.

Also, a team does not to win a cupboard full of silverware to be classified as a great team. Look at Brazil and France in 1982, Widely beleived to be two if the greatest footballing sides in history, what happened. They were both knocked out in the Semi finals of the World Cup in 1982. Now silverware, yet they are highly revered.

Is Roar the best team in Aussie sporting history?

Ljubo, ever since day one you have thought that you are king of the world and are too good for any team in which you play for. Your beleif that if it isn’t Europe it’s not worth it attitude is laughable. I can tell u right now that numerous people would rather watch the A-League that the utter boredom of the long ball English Championship. Your beleif that we are being racist with our player selections is downright incorrect. We have countless nationalities playing in the A-League and there is a demand to increase the number of foreign players playing in the league. Perhaps ljubo, your beleif that you are too good for any team that you play in is the reason why you never really featured for the Socceroos. Instead of pushing your claiming for the national team you were too busy claiming that Croatia is a far superior football nation. A nation who WE pipped to take second place in Group F in 2006. Croatia didn’t even qualifiy for 2010. So maybe if you are as good as you think you are, go ahead push for Europe.

Ljubo shoots back at the Roar of the Crowd

I think that another reason for the issues invloved with viewing figures is the delay in telecast in Queensland. While every other state is seeing the games live, we have to suffer through Today Tonight and Home and away knowing that when the game comes on the current score may be already into the second set. This is extremely poor from Channel 7

Why tennis is becoming harder to watch on TV

Ray do you personally have solutions to the problems to voice in your newspaper. Or are you, in Danny Archer from Blood Diamond said, “Let’s just write about it then.”

If you have any perceived solutions, voice them. Because at the moment it just seems like you are bashing the game.

thanks for posting ray.

Media to blame for A-League struggles

Ray thankyou for commenting.

Just two points of mine which you missed.

1. I am talking about front page coverage when the NRL and AFL is over. Not now.

2. You make no reference to my comment about your none existant praise of the increase in the quality of the football in the A-League. Can you please explain this.

btw, i am not Aaron or whoever has been e-mailing you.

Media to blame for A-League struggles

agree with you there Cpaaa. The roar management last season was very poor. Bump up the during the GFC, smart move. As for A-League advertising, that is probably another article. This one was solely focused on the ‘media’. thanks for posting!

Media to blame for A-League struggles

Tortion what you lack is national pride. If the national chess team won the world trophy would you be poo pooing their achievement just because you don’t play or like chess. With the Soceroos this is about Australia not a code war. If you ‘national pride’ as restricted to a sport were the is no national team (AFL) then you need a reality check. I don’t personally follow the NRL or Super 14 closely. But i support the Kangaroos and Wallabies.

Media to blame for A-League struggles

Typical Demetriou here. All about money and couldn’t care less about other sports. I don’t mind the AFL competition but Andrew Demetriou is a joke with the way he is treating the World Cup Bid!

Why the AFL must keep the Grand Final replay

Sorry i’m not apoligising. He wasted my time watching Socceroos games for 2 years and 31 games without a goal. Yes he scored some important goals at South Africa but if you watched the rest of the games it was the same old Holman. Horrible control, passes to nobody, sprayed shots. Nonetheless, he is evidence that given enough game time even the lowest of the low can do ‘well’. I am still not convinced. For those 2 years when he was utterly hopelss, he was keeping the likes of Carle, McDonald and Rukavystya out of the team, that was why i hated him and Pim. He was wasting a place on the team.

Unless he come come to par with all aspects of his play, such as control and passing then i will finally apologise. Just not yet.

Brett Holman has finally silenced the haters
