Let me put it simply. The SMH publishes a story stating that Jones had either applied for or been approached by the JRU for the Japan coaching job. Good journalists check their facts. Tom Decent is a good rugby journalist. The story has to be seen on a background of Jones ridicularia statements a couple of months ago that he would probably not be coaching the Wallabies after the World Cup. Statements not denied by him and not in any rational sense denied by him. So come the SMH story what would you expect have happened. The story is either true or untrue. Quite simple. Options were threaten to sue the SMH unless the story was distracted. Or adopt the I can’t be bothered wasting my energy using but hear this the answer is “NO the story is a complete fabrication”. What we got was a pathetic political answer “ I don’t know what you are talking about” and “I am coaching Australia”. Well yes Eddie we know that unfortunately but what about who you are coaching next year. We do not know what Waugh asked Eddie or what the exact answer was. The pub test is still a useful test. Jones failed it miserably. As an employer of Jones the ARU should be satisfied with “ I spoke to Eddie and he said there is nothing in it”. After the debacle of the last 9 months the loyal and long suffering supporters of rugby deserve better. Waugh may only have been in the job for a short period. But if this is the level of oversight exercised it is not good enough.
What will the review of the performance do. Jones’ selections in key positions were disastrous. I won’t even bother starting to analyse. It would take too long. If the review ignores Jones’ actions from selections to bizarre press conferences and wants to hang its hat on “ the last 20 years” for which read “ the last time Australia was great was when Eddiewas in charge” then for me at least any shred of credibility the Board and Jones have (which is not much) will have been torn asunder and thrown to the door of destruction.
Last Sunday I wanted Portugal to win; not the Wallabies. In part because I love seeing the tier 2 nations thrive and grow. All the things that we are not doing. But also I wanted something anything to force these people to retire in shame. Portugal did not win but they sure looked like they had a better idea on how to at least run the ball, play with a bit of passion and fun and make their supporters proud.
Our players of course do not select themselves. But they have a role in this. The Spanish women’s football team showed that if players are provided with an environment that is not healthy they can speak up. Maybe the players are happy. If they are they are playing poorly. I hope they speak up even publicly if needs be.

RA 'committed' to Eddie despite 'bitterly disappointing' RWC campaign, in talks with NZR over northern threat

And in further defence of Kerevi the missed tackle was not really from the normal 13 channel. He had just made a tackle, got up off the ground quickly and then did his best to make the tackle on the try scorer. The real question is if he had time to make a tackle, get up off the ground and almost save the try why couldn’t one of the other 14 have covered for him.

Angus Crichton could be the Wallabies’ next inside centre

Agree with your sentiments in relation to Hooper. Hooper was not so self righteous 4 or 5 years ago when he was quite firm in his support of Kurtley Beale who had sent lewd and offensive text messages to teammates denigrating in a sexual way Di Patston. Denigration of women seems fine in Michael Hoopers book. Who can take this mealy mouthed insincere rubbish seriously. And did Cheika and Hooper consider what would happen if Folau is successful in challenging the ARU breach notice. He then becomes unsuspended on a rather large contract and available to play. What do Hooper and Cheika say then. Made a mistake. I did not understand the question. I meant to say we would love to have him in the team. I suggest Hooper Cheika and Phipps shut up and leave contractual issues to the ARU.

'It makes it difficult': Hooper on the idea of taking the field with Folau

Does it occur that Hooper Gibson and perhaps Phipps are simply toeing the holier than thou line. Hooper was not so moralistic when supporting Beale’s unsupportable text messages about Di Patston. In these times no one dare say what they really think. But if you think Hooper seriously and sincerely feels that he could not play with Folau again then I think you see a sincerity that is not really there.

Phipps praises bosses for swift action on Folau 'distraction'

I am afraid it is not that simple. Folau says the same thing in church. A reporter from the SMH records what he says and posts it on Instagram. Talking in church yes. Posting on Instagram no. No it is a little more complex. The ARU is as I understand focusing on public comment. Public comment is not just social media. It is a comment made in public. Including to your mates at the club or standing around the BBQ. This is a minefield created by all the do gooders who think you can create a perfect world by Regulation. You can’t.

If Rugby Australia doesn’t successfully expel Folau, World Rugby have to

There was one up and under a thon as best I can recall that being the appalling game against South Africa at Homebush. Connolly also coached Australia to it’s record winning margin against South Africa which I think without checking the stats was 49 – 0.
It is best to remember as well that the style of game in vogue from time to time changes with application and interpretation of the rules. Connolly was most certainly not incompetent.

Correct Jerry. I was just taking the ranking from the immediate post World Cup ranking.
