An Aussie rugby tragic in need of a soapbox having been completely spoiled by the golden era of the late 90s and early 00\'s

That’s a good looking back row. Hooper on for Fardy at the 60min mark would lift the tempo nicely without losing any of that clutch breakdown accuracy that pulled it out of the fire for us against the French.

Five talking points from France vs Wallabies

Yes yes yes. That is the business.

Nothing like a bit of attitude and starch to inspire support.

Get it done boys!

To: The Wallabies, c/o Twickenham

It did blend in very well in this thread

David Pocock versus Richie McCaw battle to decide World Cup

Are you for real? David Pocock, who is being touted by many commentators from all over the world as a contender for player of the tournament, “hasn’t actually been that good”. What a lazy comment. Have you been watching any games other than the ABs??

The arrogance of some of the fans on here is unbelievable. I know it’s been flowing both ways, but I just don’t understand why there can’t be credit given where it is due. Yes, McCaw is an out-and-out legend of the game. Arguably the best ever. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t be challenged this weekend by a very good and determined Wallaby back row.

Agree with that TM. Just look at what happened vs Scotland!

Fortunately Pocock has a couple of fairly handy deputies of his own

Good stuff Daniel. Enjoyed those.

Five very good reasons the Wallabies will win the Rugby World Cup

The moral to all of this of course is that we should all be at home checking the replay instead of trying to look busy at work.

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Argentina

I would be interested to hear Scott Allen’s take on all of this.

Keys for next week: discipline, converting pressure into points and David Pocock.

Wallabies qualify for Rugby World Cup final with tense win over Pumas

I was thinking the exact same thing. There was so much hype last week around the Argies’ willingness to spin it from everywhere. Great bit of coaching if that was a Cheika advisory to be on the lookout for catchable intercepts. So good to see big Rob Simmons steaming away like a gazelle running through a swamp

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Argentina

I thought it was the TMO talking Barnes into the card. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Barnes’ initial comment after seeing the first replay was something along the lines of “I’m seeing a penalty but nothing more, yes?”; to which the TMO responded by showing more replays in real time and from different angles and telling him to have another look. I can’t recall the TMO specifically saying “you should give him a yellow card”, but he certainly didn’t seem to want to hear Barnes’ initial thoughts that it was only a penalty.

Tough call on the Argies.

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Argentina

And this is where our depth will come into play. I think that after the wake up call we had against the Scots there will be a much harder edge to our defence from everyone from 1 to 15, which should go some way to offsetting the continued absence of Pocock and Folau. My concern will be when we hit the last 20 minutes and our reserve front row, which won’t have the combination it used to, comes on.

Wallabies to soldier on and win by 6.

Pocock, Folau and Sio all in doubt for Argentina semi-final

I think given Folau’s yips under the high ball in the last couple of games, a backline with KB at 15 and Folau at 11 would definitely work. Whether they chance it or not is another matter, especially given the defensive role Cheika likes his wingers to have…Folau is no Horne in that department.

What a difference one or two key players make

So true. You’ve gotta feel for Joubert. He had a bad game where both teams benefited/were hindered by some of his calls. Had Scotland thrown to 2 (the sensible option in the wet) they likely would have taken the ball cleanly and shut the game down. They were in control of their destiny until they let that control slip through poor execution.

Who’d be a referee?!

No easy way to a Rugby World Cup final

Scotland gained some of the easiest metres of the tournament last night. A worry.

Rugby World Cup: Southern semi-finals confirmed, as Scotland leave Wallabies with plenty to work on

Accidentally posted in thread proper below:

An excellent and deserved captain’s pick.

Yep I agree, Kurtley had the best game I’ve seen him play in gold for a long while.

When I watched AAC get tackled I thought the same about that opportunity. Looking at the replay though I think the pass was more difficult and risky than it first appeared.

So by sending 2 people to the bin last week Joubert was trying to ensure the Wallabies’ victory?

Aaah that’s the good stuff.

LAIDLAW: From here, mental strength will deliver the Webb Ellis

A by-product of being the best team in the world. If you can’t look for reasons why their next opponent can beat them based on current conditions, the next stop is to look backwards.

I do think however that references to the loss in 2007 (and 1999) hold a different character to references to 1995 and this year. ’99 and ’07 were losses to a team that nobody expected was capable of beating the ABs. 1995 and 2015 were both losses to teams which were perhaps not too far behind them in terms of skill, coaching, players etc. I wouldn’t call them ‘chokes’.

France v Wales in the semis for sure.

SPIRO: Southern hemisphere will dominate RWC semis

I would add the 2011 QF with a caveat that at the time it was seen as wildly important, but turned out to be something of a false dawn with the joyless decimation which came a week later. It was still an epic game though and one I look back on with great pride.

Just where does the Wallabies’ win over Wales rank?

Agree with Wales being brain dead in attack, but not sure it can be reduced to a NH vs SH argument though.

But yes, Wales butchered it. Had Davies dropped his pass short to Roberts instead of throwing it long immediately before AAC’s crucial hit and turnover, it would’ve been a try under the posts. Not taking anything away from our boys though, they applied the pressure which led to that and other mistakes. Great win.
