Rugby league tragic for 75 years. Favourite team Canberra Raiders

I’d agree with you if you included Bill Harrigan in the discussions. Between Harrigan and Gould they probably would fix the mess. But would their solution be acceptance to Todd Greenberg? I think not. His arrogance would get in the way of a fixable solution.

Bring in Gould to fix the refereeing mess

Bernard Sutton has today admitted that the Cronulla try should not have been awarded and that the forward pass his brother called to rob Canberra of a match winning try was, in his words, “OK”. But you are right Tim, he has placed all the blame on the linesman. No doubt he will be the fall guy. Yet the referee, Bernard Sutton’s brother, should have stopped play when the linesman raised his flag. And doesn’t it seem a little strange that none of the bunker officials saw the linesman’s flag raised? What were they doing in the bunker … playing poker? They obviously weren’t watch the game, or the replay, if they didn’t see the linesman’s flag raised. And there were at least three of them in the bunker at the time. Strange, to say the least!!!!

Catastrophic officiating is Greenberg’s responsibility

Hear! Hear!. Maybe the man at the top, whose record at Canterbury wasn’t all that bright, interferes too much. Seems he just can’t keep his nose out of anything. And therein lies the problem within the NRL.

Shonky Sutton strikes again but the Sharks don’t give a Shire

Won’t happen. Look at the ref’s name … it’s SUTTON! And who’s his brother????

Shonky Sutton strikes again but the Sharks don’t give a Shire

So if that’s fair, how about the draw itself. From round 15 to round 21 (that’s 7 weeks), the Raiders have one home game (v the Cowboys), tucked in between three away games and another three away games. How fair is that, not just for the team but for the fans, especially club members?

Festivus in July: It’s time to air my NRL grievances

Maybe Tom would do as well at fullback but a winger he is not … out of position too much. He let in Qld’s first try by leaving his wing and made a similar mistake in their second-half try.

Tedesco is an absolute genius

Sounds good, but will never happen. TV programming controls what games are played when and where. The NRL might claim it controls the draw but that’s crap. If the NRL does control the draw it should hang its head in disgrace.
Whatever happened to the home and away games rotation? In this day and age of technology it shouldn’t take much brainpower and logic to plan a draw that is fair to everyone – clubs, players and, above all, fans. Sadly there isn’t much commonsense emanating from NRL headquarters these days.

Here's how to improve the NRL season

True madmax, but this article was about Canberra. Perhaps you’d like to write a similar article about one of the other teams you suggest “could be on top of the table had they won their close games …”; the Tigers maybe, but …

How Canberra could be on top of the NRL ladder

It’s not the fact that referees award penalties or make errors that fans – and I’m guilty of being one of them – complain about. It’s the inconsistency and the fact that some referees (appear to) officiate differently against certain teams. There is so much inconsistency in the awarding of penalties and interpretation of the rules. For instance, at the beginning of this season there was concentration on playing the ball with players penalised for rolling the ball between their feet. Rewind games over the last few weeks and you’ll see we are back to the same old problem of very few players playing the ball correctly; simply rolling it between their feet. And no one is being penalised for it. The most inconsistency, however, is in stripping of the ball and the quick tap penalty. Too often these inconsistencies are determining match results. And, dare I say it, this is where some referees officiate differently for some teams. Sometimes, it’s as though there is a preconceived conception that certain teams are supposed to win and others don’t deserve a fair crack of the whip.

In defence of referees

Good young side but can’t see them as premiers if they could only beat the struggling, undermanned Raiders by a single gifted field goal with more than a little help from at least one of the two on-field officials.

Panthers: stuff the footy gods

That’s not a coaching issue Geoff, it’s blatant refereeing incompetence. And again it’s the same referee who has a reputation for blundering in these situations with calls that, unfortunately, determine the results of games.

Ricky will blame the referees but his players have let him down again

Hard to follow commentators sometimes. In the Dragons-Raiders game on Sunday, Dragons winger Nightingale was guilty of a blatant illegal play-the-ball in front of his team’s posts. When play was inexplicably allowed to continue, one Foxtel commentator asked how play was allowed to continue. When the infringement ended in a Dragons’ try all the comment was about the brilliance of the try. Would be interesting to have heard the Channel 9 commentators’ take on the event! Unfortunately, the referees’ blunder on this occasion was not only a game changer but, in all probability, a result changer.

Conspiracy and paranoia at Shark Park

Ferguson has a habit of coughing up the ball at crucial times in games. He did it twice against the Broncos and handed Brisbane a try. Not something needed in SOS.

Mitchell Moses: Origin player. It’s just crazy enough to work

Wouldn’t be hard to pick at least two teams with nothing between them. There have been some great aboriginal players over the years. David Grant is another great prop that comes to mind. George Grant was a pretty fair player and reliable goal-kicker as well.

Naming my Indigenous all-stars team of the century

Great side, but Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley have to be in there somewhere.

Oh poor Cam! A referee called the rules (even if his decision was totally devoid of commonsense) and made a decision that went against the Storm. Funny that; it’s the same referee that sent Cam to the sinbin for 10 minutes. Now he might understand how other captains feel when calls so regularly go against their teams when playing the storm!

What happened to last year's premiers? The Storm have plenty of work to do

Has anyone given any thought to the fact that you can play only as well as the opposition allows you? Canberra’s defence on Saturday night was rock solid, especially on their tryline. It was broken once only – by a piece of JT magic. Canberra’s attack also was on song as their forwards dominated. They scored three tries to one and had another two disallowed. That speaks for itself. Give the winners some credit.

What’s going on at the North Queensland Cowboys?
