I grew up playing rugby at school and club in Western Australia. I love watching rugby. My favourite players are those that do the hard yards! The tough nuts! Like Bismarck du Plessis , Brad Thorn and Francois Louw.

Woulda persisted with Noah. Give him some time to build into the role… If they really wanted to bring someone new, it wouldn’t hurt to bring in Jono Lance, I thought he played well for the force.

Reece Hodge at 10 as Dave Rennie makes huge changes to Wallabies team for Bledisloe 4

Totally agree with Dempsey at No 6. Just swap O’Connor for Kuridrani and that’s a solid team.

What are the final pieces of the Wallabies' World Cup puzzle?

Is it a bit of a gamble throwing in 3 debutants in the backrow? Looks like Cheika will trial either Naisarani or Valetini alongside Hooper and Dempsey.

So no James O’Connor after all that hype?

Nick, a question must be asked why this defensive system was implemented in the first place.

Does NG believe that the players have defensive frailties, that this system is warranted to cover such weaknesses (and theoretically promote other players’ defensive strengths)?

And more importantly, would an alternative defensive plan work more effectively? Like a more orthodox approach?

It's time for the Wallabies to stop the music on defence

Looking at the lions squad, a XV is able to be fielded where there is a high certainty the players will not participate in the grandfinals.

This will most likely allow the players from the big teams to have a few days breathing space before playing their 1st tour match.

Could this logic be why the Wasps players were snubbed? As Wasps are sitting top of the ladder.

Do the Lions know how to beat a New Zealand rugby team?

Folau needs to stop his rediculous off-load attempts. Its killing our momentum!!! Grrrrr

Wallabies vs Scotland highlights: Wallabies escape with 23-22 win

I’m glad Phipps got hooked! All his brainfarts were starting to make me snap.

All Blacks vs Wallabies highlights: All Blacks win final Bledisloe Cup Test 37-10

I would say Carl Hayman in his prime was the best prop the world has ever seen.

Remembering those who significantly changed rugby

Clearly Lote doesn’t understand the intricacies of playing centre, as so well pointed out by Gordan D’Arcy’s article about Burgess’s defensive flaws. Being able to successfully code hop in one year would be far fetched, let alone at centre! Not Burgess’s fault… He clearly got thrown in the deep end when he should’ve spent more time in the kiddy pool…

Perhaps Lote was bias based on his “successful” transition to union. Playing centre has many responsibilities, even Lote struggled there after a few years in union.

Benching Burgess a mistake: Tuqiri

Scott, we will all miss your great insightful articles greatly. They’re the pieces I look forward to every week. These are of exceptional analysis and are non biased, and I really enjoy that. I’ve never really like being part of discussions. But I do enjoy reading comments and I agree, it is quite boring having to skip all the interstate banter comments just to find discussion on serious matters.
I hope the next stage of your career will be successful and that your skills are put to great use in Australian rugby. Hopefully we see you in a super rugby setup or even the Wallabies!!! I wish you well!!!

FAREWELL ROAR: Bickering a symptom of troubled times

Just to throw it out there… I would like to see how le Roux does at outside centre. He can definitely create space for players outside! And then moved back to fullback on defence for counter-attacking. I doubt Meyer would want to introduce new players, such as Jordaan into the fold.

Heyneke Meyer needs to smarten up

He shouldve at least been on the bench if Link wanted to ease him back into the team.
Looks like Genia is 3rd in the pecking order… Shame… When on song, is a much better option than either Phipps or White.

Wallabies team for Bledisloe: Quade Cooper and Lealiifano return

Great Analysis Scott.

I’m sure it was the pace the All blacks played that mainly blew the Australian defence to pieces, as well as the lack of confidence and trust of players, like in the last example shown. I guess this is what is meant by the All Blacks “Aura”!

I’d like to hear you opinion Scott about one of you examples…

In that example of the 5 v 3 situation off first phase, I can’t help but think that the main culprit was the positioning of defence on the wing spot. I’m sure the forwards would’ve tried to move as fast as possible, but with the speed of the All Blacks recycling most teams will get caught out here.

Maybe an overlap like this could be negated somewhat if: 1) the winger was in the line. 2) the fullback covered centre of backfield as lineout took place. 3) As lineout finishes, fullback moves across field, following the ball, while a loose forward moves into back field from the lineout. OR have less forwards commited in the lineout. Thoughts Scott???

3D Analysis: Wallabies defence a shambles

Great article, Armand!

No doubt, Vermeulen is up there as one of the most physically imposing No.8s, along with Picamoles and Vunipola.

I always liked how he can even beat his first man when he is tackled in a still position, by using his monstrous fend and upper body strength. That is probably what sets him apart from any other player.

If he can work on his acceleration, he will be up there with Read.

Duane Vermeulen can hold his own with the best

Would like to see McCabe have a go on the wing!!!

Tomane eyes Wallabies' open wing spot

Injured. Or else he would definitely wear the 10 or 12 shirt

What an Australia 'A' rugby side would look like

Not sure Skelton has fully proven himself yet at test level and puts the Wallabies at a huge disadvantage during lineout time. A huge flaw, especially against the Boks… I would think Sam Carter will be partnering Rob Simmons in the second row. Carter offers more and is a more than able ball carrier. If anything Skelton will be filling the bench spot.

We’ll have to wait and see how he goes in the RC…

What an Australia 'A' rugby side would look like

Hmmmm… If that’s the case then I would bring English into the 14 jersey then.

I didn’t know you are ‘locked in’ once you play for the U 20 team. Didn’t Gareth Anscombe play for NZ U20s and is looking to represent Wales by the world cup. Interesting. Maybe it only applies to Australia?

When’s Cooper and Genia coming back?

I’m a bit unsure still of Foley at test level..

And I hope White can transfer his Brumbies form to test level or else can’t wait for Genia to come back.
