'Like a Scud missile': World Cup reject leads rout, but Reds suffer fresh blow with Petaia's season in jeopardy

More of a reflection on Uelese than the jumpers. Maybe they should bring in Jeremy Paul to coach the hookers how to throw … or maybe someone else

CONFIRMED: Wallabies land final piece of coaching puzzle as ex-Lion signs on ahead of showpiece event

The short season of Super Rugby is one of my biggest bug bears. It annoys the hell out of me once SR has finished (and for the Aussie teams that generally means week 1 of the finals), we only get a few test matches every other week. We are basically gifting the NRL the competition for fans. If we are competing on the world market for players by paying their salaries, why the hell aren’t we getting more games out of them?

COMMENT: Australian rugby is a depressing picture - the RA board must be axed and the constitution changed

Are any of you blokes actually watching any rugby? Reds v Brumbies, Crusaders v Chiefs last weekend. I dunno what you blokes want but there was some pretty high quality games right there I thought. Way more entertaining than 5 hit ups and a kick, repeat, repeat, repeat …. And you call rugby boring???

'We have to keep the essence of what rugby is about': All Black legend's worrying words of warning

Muglair the reason the Waratahs can’t replicate the bitterness of us Queenslanders is because you keep calling us “small minded” or other nasty words. Our hatred will never die.

Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?

but for how many people Ken? I hazard to guess that none of the Brisbane clubs would fill Suncorp within the next 30 years. I live in regional QLD and I don’t ever see us ever filling a stadium for a regional team either – sorry to rain on your parade and be negative. I wish I had the answer as well, but I don’t 😢

If you watched the Wallabies World Cup documentary you can see how mentally fragile Tupou is regarding his injuries. I’m guessing that is the bigger issue – being scared to throw his body around as hard as he used to.

'Be useful': how unrivalled discipline and work rate is lifting the Reds to new heights

Nor did Wendell but they’re not the only ones partaking in that sort of stuff apparently if you believe the sewerage testers. I obviously walk in different circles …

I’d pay to see Kyle Sandilands at the bottom of a ruck 👎

How on earth would a team in Adelaide be any more successful than the Rebels?

The Wrap: The two massive power shifts shaping Australian and New Zealand rugby

That guy from Antiques Roadshow made some glowing comments about the performance of the match officials over the weekend and I agree with him. Sure there may have been a slightly forward pass here and there, but it was so much more pleasurable to watch rather than scrum re-set after re-set.

The Wrap: ‘World’s best provincial rugby competition’ delivers a superb Super Round

How is the compensation worked out? Surely it’s shared evenly amongst all of the teams – that would only be fair and gives everyone equal incentive to support the marketing of it. And why isn’t the hosting of it in the Islands (Fiji in particular) given more serious consideration? Surely they’d fill the stadium/s all weekend and give it the atmosphere that it deserves.

Doesn’t Nine own Stan?? Why aren’t they doing more to promote their own product? Stan do a great job, but I’m sure it’s only the rusted on fans like ourselves that subscribe. It’s difficult to see how we can get more potential fans watching/attending matches unless the game comes out from behind a paywall. As you’ve highlighted Geoff, the quality of the games were fantastic, it’s just a shame we don’t have more people watching and attending.

The number of lineouts that the Rebels lost was a pretty big issue. Frost and Cale dined out on them.

10 reasons league and union should merge to become One Rugby - and give AFL nightmares

That’s a good point too, but, it is what it is, and from the sounds of it, if the Vic Government weren’t throwing $$ in then the Rebels would be in an even worse position.

'Want to show rugby isn't dead in Melbourne': Rebels skipper's fighting words as Eddie calls for 'hard decisions'

Wow, I’m gobsmacked – yet they pull in full crowds at all the games 😱

Rugby News: Quade thinks Wallabies days are over, tug-of-war looms in Aussie rugby over talent, Boks snap up gun Kiwi coach

It’d be nice to see full crowds at all the SR games, not just the rebels. Point taken though, the crowds there seem to be pretty abysmal, especially during the Super Round when you would think all the games there should be sold out. Maybe the Kiwi ex-pats living in Melbourne can do the comp a favour and adopt the Rebels as their 2nd team and sign up for a season membership.

How the west was lost again: Rugby's battler club suffers another blow and this one could be fatal

I certainly agree with you for the afternoon kick-offs. As far as I recall the Wallabies test matches (at least the ones played during the Australian winter) have always been broadcast on free to air TV. I don’t think a handful of Wallbies test matches a year are enough to fully engage young (and new) fans. I agree with Andrew Blades – having super rugby behind the paywall for so long did rugby a disservice in Australia as far as building interest from young fans and people not previously exposed to the sport.

Bringing rugby back to the fans: The game should be easier to access and more people-friendly
