My worry with Brown would be temperament. He runs pretty hot at the best of times. Flashes of Tariq Sims’ brain explosion on Ben Hunt a couple years ago jumps to mind.

Keary dumped, Holmes returns as Origin Game 2 teams confirmed

I think Capewell will stay at centre if fit and Su’A will start in the second row. Collins Arrow Hunt and maybe Moe Fotuaika on the bench. Allan to fullback and Holmes to wing. Sami and Hess to miss out.

Maroons dealt massive blow with Brimson ruled out of Origin series

If he passed his HIA then he passed his HIA I suppose but I’d hope they still follow up on it anyway during the week. The blokes clearly busted physically and if he keeps copping these knocks it’ll start getting a lot worse.

Might need to have a sit down with a couple older heads and chat about how the aches and pains don’t just fade away in retirement.

Six talking points from State of Origin 1

Origin Gagai is just about a top 5 player. Under Bennett club Gagai has been looking pretty tidy as well.

Second-half stunner powers Maroons to Origin Game 1 upset win

Farah claiming he never kicked at the ball is one of the biggest porky pies in origin history. Still don’t think I would’ve awarded the try though. I don’t remember if the “billy slater rule” had come in at that point.

The penalty try was wrong. Change my mind

I thought it was marginal but still a sin binning. Seen guys binned for less.

The penalty try was wrong. Change my mind

Depends really. If being in a winning team mattered so much Thurston would’ve played half as many origins as he did. The bigger worry is the number of seemingly average players that have been picked.

Perhaps someone could clarify for me but are the 15 definitely part of the squad, or could they still be dropped as more players become available and the squad is finalised?

Kalyn Ponga included as Wayne Bennett names first 15 players in Maroons Origin squad

Hess is a strange one for me. All I can think is Bennett is confident he can turn his 15 good minutes a game into 50.

This is why old heads are very hesitant to make Origin an end of year fixture. Too many blokes pulling out in need of clean outs etc to get ready for next season (not the case for Ponga of course whose torn labrum wouldn’t normally be something you play through). If origin were to ever be a permanent end of year fixture the NRL would have to shave off at least 4 or 5 rounds which I don’t see happening.

Fish rot from the inside actually.

Kevin Walters to get the nod as Brisbane Broncos coach

If it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work out. It might add a little extra spice, but if the board were willing to sack their foundation coach for a rookie it’s hard to imagine they’d have much issue giving Kevvie the wipe over. I wouldn’t if I were them, because these knee jerk big man decisions keep biting them on the rear, but who knows what goes on in the heads of these blokes.

Kevin Walters to get the nod as Brisbane Broncos coach

It’s an unwritten law in rugby league. You gotta prove yourself in the commentary box before you start going around coaching players.

Jokes aside imagining Wayne Bennett commentating actually sent a shiver down my spine.

Latrell Mitchell out of the headlines this season? Shirley, you can’t be serious?

Souths keep Wayne Bennett in love with the game

It’s just what the young athletes of today need. A 40 something year old bloke blasting bangers before practice.

Paul McGregor resigns as Dragons coach

Come on mike. How many chances can a bloke have before he gets the tap?

Paul McGregor resigns as Dragons coach

The appointment of Seibold isn’t even the most shocking aspect really. Sacking the foundation coach to ensure they got him was borderline disgraceful.

Warriors set for more years of disappointment with Nathan Brown at the helm

I’m not sure if Green is an automatic pick tbh. He’d be in the running but imo someone like Walters would be just as serious a contender with the current culture issues the club is having.

This is of course assuming he sacks Seibold (although at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the South’s game ended up being his last). He very well could opt to keep him on another year with an eye towards Bellamy for 2022. Of course Bellamy reckons he’s going to retire after every game these days (real Larry David complex he has) I’d be surprised if next year ended up being his swansong even if they won a premiership.

Tbf though they’ve had some ripe proper turnover at Ipswich. It would be hard to run a successful program year in year out when your team is getting gutted constantly.

However the point is valid. No current NRL side wants to take that risk. Imo an expansion side that’s more worried about marketability than instant success would be their most likely route to the NRL.

Well tbf letting a good player like RTS or Pearce leave only to pick up literally the best players in those positions might have something to do with it.

Does Seibold have more success than Arthur or Cleary? He has two final appearances and likely one future wooden spoon. Cleary has a GF appearance and Arthur has a handful of finals games (although he also has his fair share of spoons as well. 2 is it?)

There’s that one time he helped out the NZ national side.

I read the title as re-signs and for the life of me couldn’t comprehend the possibility of it. Between that and Brisbane’s disgraceful week the only thing that could’ve made it worse would’ve been finding out Scott Minto was a drug cheat.

Paul McGregor resigns as Dragons coach

No effort in the last line is pretty harsh. He made a fair few strong tackles on his line and sat a bloke with 20 kilos on him down on his rear 2 metres out. The go ahead try (when it mattered) was simply Coates not trusting Staggs to make the tackle. They had the numbers.

Boyd brilliance can’t stop Broncos from slumping to another loss

A one man cut out is the pass of the year?

Outrageous Matt Dufty try assist might be the pass of the year
