The roar seems to be expanding on it’s subject matter! Next up a preview on the clash between ISIS and America!

Oscar Pistorius may not be a murderer, but he is definitely a killer

Because Brookvale is a suburban ground that belongs in a suburban league. It might have its place in the regular season but it is certainly not worthy of a finals game in a national league. And if Souths have more fans than Moanly at the game, so be it. Souths are a big club and deserve the advantage that comes from having supporters that care. Moanly fans need to get up and support there team.

There's no point finishing second if you can't play at home

Too bad most of them will end up excelling at bigger clubs. Penrith will always blood juniors but they will never be a successful club that wins games consistently and regularly. Same with newcastle and north qld and canberra. We can always rely on the doggies and roosters and the like to poach the cream of the crop and take glory.

Panthers prove they’re LOLcats no longer

Sunday afternoon football at a packed suburban ground in glorious sunshine. Aint nothing like it!

Manly's narrow win puts their campaign back on track

Untapped in the sense that those regions didnt have a side in the national comp.

Those clubs with 50 years plus history are already in the national league. Its not a question of whether clubs like the sharks should be there but whether it is worth destroying a fan base by excluding them, Difference with BRL clubs like Souths Logan is that they were never in the national comp to begin with. Of course those clubs have history but it was the way things turned out that the NSWRL decided to expand into a national league and not the BRL.

Its the typical Queenlander view to snort at Sydney’s history. Sydney is the heart of Australian Rugby League. There is no NRL without Sydney.

North Sydney has always had strong ARU but not strong Aussie Rules. The Swans have been the big winners from the demise of the bears. Lost fans to rugby league.

Ill iterate again that teams like the Sharks and manly can’t survive in their current form. In all likelihood the Sharks in particular will probably bite the dust. Im just saying people underestimate what is lost when these clubs fold.

What if the NRL was really all about the fans?

Probably worth a pay cut to enjoy your profession once again

Hunt calls time on AFL experience

Thats a waste of tax payers money. North Shore may as well be Adelaide. Rugby league will have to re-expand into that market because it has long been lost to rugby and aussie rules. Sizable chinese population as well which would be more drawn to football.

Sad to see the Bears shafted and despite the goodwill around the Central Coast bid, it has been even sadder to see it gradually decline too.

It is cruel but the best outcome for the area would be join manly’s catchment and work with together in making the eagles a northern sydney entity..

The Bears are dead, long live North Sydney Oval

Great post and sounds like a great day out. The NRL’s eye for the dollar really does take away the essence of rugby league.

The Bears are dead, long live North Sydney Oval

Those clubs you listed have the benefit of untapped geocgraphical catchment areas which make the identity of those club. And tapping these new frontiers is important. But we mustnt forget the importance of history. Even the broncs storm and cowboys have made their own history in their short existence. Which is what makes them successful.

It is extremely valuable to have clubs that have existed for more than 50 years in the comp and the intergenerational support that creates in communities. So any talk of overlooking this to cull clubs should be looked at very closely. The game certainly didnt make a net gain with the demise of North Sydney. The area is now rugby and aussie rules land.

Having said that, I do not believe sharks and manly in particular can survive in a national comp in their current form.

What if the NRL was really all about the fans?

Maaate if you come to this country you are part of Team Australia.

Oh god I feel like such an Abbott lol

Wanderers through to ACL semi-finals

History is very important. It is what comes to define and shape the club’s identity which in turn gives fans something to attach to and be proud of. Just look at the woeful state of Gold Coast Titans.

The Panthers are a team with history but very disjointed. The constant changing of club colours and emblems leaves fans confused about what the club is really about. Despite their success this year, crowds seem reluctant to come out. In fact, most people in the Penrith region support other teams such as Parra, Dogs, Dragons and Souths. Why? Because these teams have history.

What if the NRL was really all about the fans?

All 3 have been involved with the Australian national team. At what point do they become Australian? Or at least Croatian Australian. Be proud of the cultural background but don’t be blinded by it.

Wanderers through to ACL semi-finals

Lol it would be open minded of them, although I don’t think that is their intention.

Erin Molan: Haters gonna hate

What a ridiculous waste of time this entire thing is. The players facing 6 month bans can serve out the suspension through the offseason and only miss a handful of games. If indeed they are guilty, how is that a suitable punishment.

Don't forgo ASADA rights: NRL players told

The Footy Show has taken a odd homoerotic persona in recent times. I caught a few ch9 ads for that particular episode which beau ryan did nude. Seen quite a few shirtless SBW ads too. I think the producers are as confused as the rest of us about the direction the show wants to go.

Erin Molan: Haters gonna hate

Well there you go. I do know the Broncos crowds dropped in that period they were using ANZ. Just goes to show that a proper stadium is the main stumbling block for a second brisbane team in both the A-league and the NRL

Expanding the A-League: The time is ripe

Saddened that people follow trash like Kyle and Jackie O or the Footy Show tbh

Erin Molan: Haters gonna hate

2nd Brisbane team would be great based in Ipswich/Logan or even Sunshine Coast. But they need their own boutique 20,000 seat stadium. No good playing out of cavernous Suncorp or even multi purpose ANZ. They need to forge an identity, and while rivalry with Roar will be there, it will help to have a local intimate stadium. This is one of the things WSW did right. I think this is a great opportunity to work with the NRL who will look to put a second team in Brisbane.

Im surprised theres no mention of auckland. Granted there are AFC issues. But they have their 1 million population, boost the Nux and opens up NZ TV market. Eden Park has been getting some decent crowds in recent times for various games.

Expanding the A-League: The time is ripe

Absolutely diabolical

Could the A-League secure a $1B TV deal?

Sums it up. Thursday night football is back this week as well. As long as 9 are happy…

I think it is very telling that alot of these articles and posts are popping up online. The current situation is unsatisfactory.

If the NRL ain’t broken, why is everybody broke?

Yep, hopefully there’s no more of this Half wests half balmain crap. The club is 15 years old now it’s about time we had a full WESTS TIGERS board. Hopefully the NRL makes some recommendations to move office and training facilities to Liverpool/campbelltown area as well. We are very much an inner west club but our future is in the south west.

Choose wisely, Wests, your future is at stake

Almost 20,000 at Eden Park, great crowd for a mid week game. What a shame Nix made a loss. They needed 21,000 to breakeven. NZS should be encouraging friendlies like this. Will be a sellout in Wellington for the double header.

The fate of Wellington Phoenix, NZ football and the NZ National Team is intertwined. A strong Phoenix club will pave the way for a strong national team and vice versa. One can only imagine the buzz in NZ if the All Whites had qualified for the World Cup. Mini tournaments like Football United certainly get the ball rolling though. Can’t wait for the day Eden Park sells out for Auckland City vs Wellington Phoenix.

Phoenix shock West Ham in Auckland

Thats silly. if FIFA is ok with it then AFC can take a hike. Its growing the game in NZ, something they can not do as an OFC member.

Phoenix shock West Ham in Auckland

The whole indigenous argument is a bit hollow. The game might be a Victorian game but it is not an Australian game. Subtle difference.

In NSW and Qld the AFL is a foreign game and this perception is perpetuated by the smugness of the administration. Their sport is fundamentally superior and all the unconverted masses will fall under its spell. Governments forking out millions for plastic entities like the Suns and GWS does not help their cause. Nor do zealots like Kevin Sheedy who pump up an imaginary code war and set off the insecurities of rugby league fans. This might seem an alien concept to melburnians but the AFL establishment needs to accept they will only ever be a small part of the sporting landscape in the northern states and work with existing sports instead of pitting itself against them.

I personally don’t mind the game and I casually follow the Swans who have settled well in Sydney. The attitudes of the administration and to a lesser degree, AFL fans, have to change though.

Five examples of AFL's delusions of grandeur

Bit of financial trouble but that didnt stop them bidding almost a billion dollars for the NRL rights. It may be a huge upfront cost but the benefits come every week when you can show games every week that will consistently rate. If Ten are to become a player once again in the TV industry they will have to land a big tv deal over the next few years and bolster their sports programming.

So we have until 2017 to develop an irresistable package for the tv networks. By growing the support of the clubs, strengthening the rivalries, new expansion clubs and hopefully a strong Socceroos with plenty of A-league graduates qualifying for Russia 2018.

Football in Australia is entering a conversion phase
