only network I can stand to watch nowadays!

Football in Australia is entering a conversion phase

Just doing some googling and it seems the reason Ten didn’t bid last time was their desire to get the NRL rights. And they were in with a fair shot too. Interestingly, both the current NRL and A-league rights will expire at the end of 2017. If the A-league booms in that period and with anticipated expansion teams, it could be a very interesting marketplace for televised sport come 2017

3 major domestic competitions and 3 commercial networks. The A-league should be able land a commercial tv deal.

I would hate to have to watch aleague on NINE as well if their rugby league coverage is anything to go by. TEN would be great for the next deal

Football in Australia is entering a conversion phase

I find it hard to believe Ten didn’t make a bid for the last tv rights. Surely at the least they would have a go at the next tv deal. They have next to nothing on their sports programming.

Football in Australia is entering a conversion phase

This so much.

Channel 9 have really put me off watching rugby league this year. Our sport just doesn’t have what it takes to draw a line in the sand. Please David Smith the fans are walking away. I am so glad the World Cup is on at the moment.

Fans groan as Thursday night footy returns

Queensland’s dominance has really invigorated Origin. You can trust queensland to permanently hate nsw. I used to marvel as a kid at the ‘queensland comeback’. The passion the players had for the jersey and the whole state coming together to stick it up nsw.

But nsw public is really starting to get behind the blues united by a hatred of the rednecks up north and desire to put them back in their place.

Long live origin!

Why State of Origin is the greatest thing ever

Its a pity he doesnt do them anymore. Last nights pregame was woeful. Trust C9 to stuff hyping the most hypable contest in the world. They really should get that gladiator theme back as well. Used to give me goosebumps before the game

Why State of Origin is the greatest thing ever

This kids an absolute superstar!

Why State of Origin is the greatest thing ever

I thought it was flat for a football atmosphere. Obviously 80,000 fans and thr anticipation of wc qualification made it an occasion. But active fans would have made it unforgettable. Grern n Gold Bloc!!

Victory needs to get their house in order

Its just sad. I guess people have a thirst for these juicy, scandolous but shallow stories. So the media gives it to us in spades. Then we see all this crap on the media and these petty things become our reality and we are blinded to the real issues. So we as a society become brainless zombies that continually feed off the tabloid media. Its a self-perpetuating cycle.

I like to think we can be better.

Mitchell Pearce's binge reeks of arrogance

I said Im NOT saying it in a ‘rapey way’ because I assume thats how you interpreted my comment.

I was just trying to take Pearce’s perspective: He sees an attractive girl, so he approaches her. Either the girl is flattered and they make conversation or shes not interested and they go separate ways. The latter is what happened. Basically what happens a hundred times at any club.

Mitchell Pearce's binge reeks of arrogance

Before all the feminists come out with pitchforks – I am not saying it in a ‘rapey way’. I mean people go to night clubs to socialise. A girl gets dressed up (provocatively or not) to make a good impression amongst the crowd so someone might come across and strike a conversation with her. Pearce’s attention was drawn to her. Tell me this is not what happens between patrons at a club.

I am not for one instance laying blame on the woman. Im saying its a completely innocent incident that the media as always has blown out of proportion.

Mitchell Pearce's binge reeks of arrogance

The media headline is “Drunken Pearce detained by Police for Assault” I think, oh great here we go again another idiot shaming the game.

You need to dig a little deeper to get the actual story. While Pearce is silly for being out so late on the drink, last I checked that was not a criminal offence. So he got up to go after a girl who was wearing a very eye catching dress? Why exactly is the girl wearing this attire if not to attract male attention? And when he was asked to leave by Police, yes he probably should have left, but he was probably just as puzzled as to why he was asked to leave in the first place.By all accounts he was laughing and not being aggressive.

So now we have the Telegraph and Nine among all others blowing this out of proportion because this is the biggest news of the day. Pearce is silly but he doesnt deserve to be roasted like this. The media in this country is going to the dogs.

Mitchell Pearce's binge reeks of arrogance

Exactly, the hypothetical $500k for SBW is an NRL payment that he would recieve regardless of which NRL club he decides to sign with. The other 15 clubs still have the opportunity to outbid the Roosters $1M.

Dave Smith should abandon his 'war chest' idea

On what grounds is the FFA Cup bigger than A-league Finals Series (Cup)?

I love the idea of FFA Cup but do we really want the likes of Marconi representing Australia in the ACL?

Why the A-League grand final is the king of fixtures

Three one off results against the best in the league isn’t as easy as you make it sound. You make it sound like they would be lucky. But a win is a win and in your scenario Man U responded best to the high pressure environment of finals football. You need to look at it from an Australian perspective. To many football fans want to replicate what occurs in Europe but that is their tradition. We have our own.

Think of the home and away rounds as a way of jockeying for positions to be best placed to make a tilt for the championship.

Why the A-League grand final is the king of fixtures

This.

Particularly Bulldogs/Wanderers. Several of my mates fall in this category

Football is here to stay in Australia

Really disappointed its not Sydney FC up against Juventus. These sort of games could help build culture and tradition with our relatively young clubs. Its almost as if the FFA view its own clubs as competition

FFA continue to pick clubs' pockets

Its never completely fine. But the motivation behind those words is unlikely to have been to belittle the gay community. Its just an easy one-liner that most young people use.

Compare with calling someone a retard.

A racist and a homophobe? Put the pitchforks away, gang

Watch out Robert, that sounds like a homophobic and sexist slur to me

A racist and a homophobe? Put the pitchforks away, gang

And calling someone a girl with negative connotations is not offensive either? Sounds pretty sexist to me, whats wrong with females?

This is just political correctness gone mad. And of course everyone loves to jump on a bad NRL headline

A racist and a homophobe? Put the pitchforks away, gang

And what an atmosphere it was! As a Sydney FC supporter it was great seeing those Wanderers fans shot down. Would have been even better if Brisbane scored while they were Poznaning. They went close in the 80th haha

Great day in the history of Brisbane Roar. A fair chunk of those 40,000 queenslanders would be rugby league fans as well, same with the Wanderers contingent. People lets just accept that no sport is going to defeat another. Let us all unite – and bring down the AFL 😉

One of the reasons why I found it hard to get behind the Wanderers. Football club is great, but there is a rogue element in the supporters that reflects badly on them as a whole. I didnt catch the opening, did were they chanting through the national anthem like they did last year?

The sad thing is how easily we can pick the not so great nrl media personalities:

Rothfield
Wilson
Ray Hadley
Danny Wiedler
Beau Ryan (he is not the least bit funny)
Basically everyone on that conference table which they call the footy show nowadays
