Hopefully people will recognise that Rennie can only select from who he has available. The depth is not there & losing his two most experienced inside backs certainly didn’t help matters.

Mo'unga magic leads All Blacks past woeful Wallabies in record blowout

Not a big fan of changing around in defence but asking a kid in his first test to face ALB & Goodhue coming at him in the front line all night might have been too much of an ask. He did look lost defending at the back though perhaps a change of tactic might have been called for.

The AB’s have been looking to use the line out drive as a way to set up a lot of their attacks. If you contest a line out like that you are opening yourself up to being driven way back by the drive drive. Percentage play is to stay down & set to combat the drive.

Frizell didn’t do anything flashy but got through a tonne of grunt work in close. Very good game from him for mine.

Muzzo, I think they have preferred Kirifi for his ball running in this instance. Looking to replace what Savea brings to the team with a similar player.

I see Kirifi as more of a like for like player for Savea than Boshier. Kirifis ball running is more in the mould of a Savea.
If they were looking to replace Cane I could see Boshier being preferred.

Havili has a broken thumb. He played very little due to that & his stomach issues. I think mitre 10 is a better place for him to get back into the game.
Love Vince Aso but with ALB, Ioane & Goodhue there are some strong players ahead of him in the 13 jumper who also offer good versatility.
I really can’t see what Lam offers over the wingers selected, the AB’s are looking for the wings to be multi skilled & while Lam is a good finisher I would see it hard to select him over the guys picked.
Apparently the selectors have had a chat to Boshier about a few things they want him to work on. I reckon he will be a few KGs heavier next season. I don’t know if any tests will be played under the breakdown interpretation we saw in SRA & I suspect they are concerned about his ability to stay over the ball for the longer period needed under the way the laws were interpreted last season.

Seven new players in All Blacks rebuild

Not under the current interpretation. Player didn’t land in his head or neck so YC only.

Should a Highlanders debutant have seen red for this ugly lifting tackle?

If the offside line is the tryline then the player would be offside. The front of the goal post pad is considered part of the try line so laying down in front of it would place the player in an offside position.

Five talking points from New Zealand versus Ireland

Injuries have taken their toll on Milner-Scudder. Shoulders then feet. Believe he has signed to play in Japan next year.

All Blacks name imposing World Cup squad, complete with shock omissions

Seems like he told Hansen he couldn’t 100% commit but would be there if there were injuries.

Probably because Banks defence is barely Super rugby level

Wallabies name 31-man squad for 2019 Rugby World Cup

There is one specialist wing selected in Koroibete who isn’t exactly an out & out speedster.
None of the outside backs seem to be overly quick.

Foley was a fullback when he first came into the scene. Cheika has played him at 12 as well but I don’t know if the results of that ploy deserve another go around.

Didn’t AAC used to play in Japan? Maybe they taking him as a tour guide / translator.

Has a good attacking game. Don’t know if his defence is up to test standard though.

The first penalty at the line out was pretty clear for me. Coleman jumped across into Read & grabbed his arm.
Have a look at the first scrum penalty as well. There is a great overhead shot of the scrum engagement. The wallaby tighthead engages angled in. Moody is square.

Now the dust has settled, what really went wrong?

Pretty harsh on Genia. Kerevi took the quick tap after a mark deep inside the 22.
There were 2 forwards to support him who went to ground.
Have a look where Genia came from. He was well down field after the previous breakdown the AB’s kicked from.
He got onside & engaged Savea but was too late to stop the steal. I would be pointing at the 2 forwards (both from the bench) who failed to protect Kerevi & the others who were to gassed to get there to clean out before I would call Genia out on his efforts.

Bridge is definitely SL’s man in that situation. Hodge had ALB covered & was too deep to even think of making a spot tackle in on Bridge. As the outside man you cover the widest player.
If you leave him SL has even more ground to make across to pick up ALB
If Hodge had squared or angled in Barrett would have had the option to hit ALB outside.

All Black to the future at Eden Park

I’m hope each morning my Wife doesn’t realise that Clarke!

I suspect Arnold was a big loss in the scrum.

I prefer Squires as a 4th loose forward in the match day 23 to Todd. We have 2 7’s in there with Cane & Savea.
Squires has been looking like he is getting back to his best after a bad run of injuries.

All Black to the future at Eden Park

I think you were missing Rory Arnold big time. AAA was angling in because of the pressure. He didn’t want to drop the scrum or pop so had to go somewhere.

Eight talking points from Bledisloe 2

The main thing for me is that he was consistent. Peyper allowed the Wallabies the same opportunity as the AB’s to slow the ball.
The AB’s clean out & moving of bodies was accurate & quick. The clean out efforts from the Wallabies was incredibly inaccurate compared to Perth.
How TJ Perenara could survive 2 clean outs in a row was hard to understand & a good example.

Eight talking points from Bledisloe 2

Hodge was just demonstrating to Cheika that he does not have the pace to be an international wing. He was simply too flat & that normally comes from a bloke not having enough trust in his speed to maintain depth.
The pass wasn’t great but if Hodge has held his depth & taken the ball he was outside his man.
One thing I will give Hodge though is he has heart. Compare his chase after being beaten by Bridge when Smith scored to Beales efforts when Reece kicked ahead for his try.
