Sounds like the French Revolution. Will there be guillotines at the game?

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions, Round 2: Can the premiers get back on track?

Looking forward to the inexplicable umpiring calls favouring Collingwood and to the fact they never get replayed or called out by the commentators.

Yeah! And take her shoes off in the process and hand her an apron.

'Dripping in inequality and stupidity': Footy is back... and so is AFL interference

Agree, but the requirements for players need to change as it’s not the 1980s anymore. SA would get flogged under the previous arrangements. A fairer set up would be the non-Victorian states can pick any player either born or ever registered as a junior in that state. SA should also acquire all the NT eligible players. NSW and QLD combined as the Allies. Tasmania and ACT combined as the Tassie Capitals. The Capitals can pick 2 remaining players not picked by any other team. Another option would be Vic Metro and Vic Country.

The 1987 SANFL GF – Maynard, Gibbs, McDermott, Kernahan vs the Jarman brothers. After North lost the previous 2 GFs to Glenelg they really wanted to win this one. Lots of suspensions.

Leigh Matthews is wrong - the AFL doesn't need a send-off rule, and introducing one would just make things messier

Or any player, such as the 2004 GF when Wakelin was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The retiring player will face little consequence from the tribunal.

Interesting take.

Devils ready to raise hell: AFL's newest club goes back to the future with traditional jumper as stadium furore rages on

“In their first season, the Devils will play their home games at the existing Bellerive Oval in Hobart and York Park in Launceston. For each season after that, the Tasmanian government must pay the club $4.5 million if the stadium isn’t ready.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff and his state Liberal Party insist the new stadium will go ahead, although the government will tip in no more than $375 million. The federal government will contribute $240 million, although that includes a broader urban renewal project, the AFL $15 million with further funding from private investment.”

One things for certain, the new Tassie club are going to be rich at the expense of the Tasmanian tax payer.

And let’s not get started on the AFL’s made up crowd figures. 44k apparently at the MCG for the Melbourne/WB game. Look at the footage for the game and chuckle.

Yes, they had Football Park which they used, but they also had Adelaide Oval which previously hosted the GF and had 65k spectators in the 1970s. What’s the record at a Hobart GF? My key point being Adelaide used what they had which was adequate. The new stadium, if it gets built, simply won’t be finished by 2028, cf. Brisbane Olympics, which is now cutting back construction. I bet when they use Bellerive and Launceston they won’t be full for every game.

People keep using Adelaide and Perth as examples but they waited 20 and 30 years respectively before building new stadiums. And they also had 2nd teams by that stage. It seems like too much of an up front commitment for Tassie.

According to Pendlebury they “weren’t trying” in those losses at the end of the year. Looks like a hollow statement now. They should have also lost to Adelaide and Port. Were lucky in their first two finals and a couple of decisions went their way at the end of the GF. They really did stumble over the line. Richmond weren’t super convincing premiers either in 2017 but they then went out and nabbed Lynch.
Collingwood did pick up Schultz but lost Ginnivan which most people considered an upgrade but it doesn’t look like it so far.

Footy Fix: Don't panic just yet, Pies fans... but there's now a blueprint to bring the premiers down

Good. Play them against Port next week.

Footy Fix: The Tigers aren't any good... but you have to admire their Phar Lap-sized hearts

Richmond’s problem is they don’t have much talent on their list under 24 years old. Compare them to Port. Freo, St Kilda, Swans, GWS, NM. They really need to pick up some good players in the draft.

I think Adelaide are still a chance but if they can’t control the corridor will kick too many points. I would put Rankine at full forward and Fogarty at CHF. Elliott Himmelberg in the pocket perhaps.

Surprised how many people have gone for the Lions and GC. I think Adelaide will struggle without Walker and Thillthorpe but still a chance.

No Tex. No Riley. No Adelaide.

Laura Kane wants it back. Here’s another idea: would a Derby or Showdown sell out the SCG? Could a Collingwood/Carlton game sell out 80k Homebush? Would Events NSW help pay for it? Some more opening round ideas. Could we jump the shark in Sydney Harbour?

The AFL didn't need to rob the NRL's house with Opening Round - it's more than big enough already

I think the grounds were full. Would have been more interesting if they had Port or Adelaide play GC. More of a test and would have brought in an SA or WA team that were both missing.

The AFL are only serious about head injuries when it is not a big Vic club. See for example Carlton and Weitering not being concussion tested and Port’s 100k fine. Can see lots of let offs occuring in the Prelims like Cotchin in 2017.
