Score 1 to Stuart Broad and 0 to us. Does anyone really believe that Broad thinks that we did not win the last Ashes series fair and square? He was just trying to stir the pot, fishing for a response with his nonsense. And he sure got it with this article. Now, back to the cricket…

Thanks Stuart Broad: you've helped us realise that England have NEVER won the Ashes

My point was young guys who are doing very well in the shield. Not young guys with potential. Sure Pucovski has enormous potential, but unfortunately he is not playing; and looks like being out for a while. And as you mentioned, Hardie has not done very well. As far as I am aware, there is no young player, say < 25 who has done very well in the shield and is knocking on the door of the test team. I wonder if the advent of T20 is now taking its toll on the young, potential test batters?

If you are not able to continue an argument, it is best to avoid getting personal

Who are those young batsmen doing well in the shield? Carey is doing swimmingly well in the test team you reckon? Sinkingly well more like it. Did you observe his batting in India? A bloody disgrace – he should be replaced by Inglis for Ashes test 1

An English cricketer making excuses for getting flogged in an Ashes series. I reckon Broad is just pandering to his own supporters. Vaughan is correct though. We have no young batsmen doing very well in the shield, which means we could be in for a few years of getting floggings from England and India, when Smith, Koala and Warner depart. Are you with me?

Yeah, he is an Australia A red ball player at best I reckon. White ball cricket is another matter; I think he is great at the top of the order and should concentrate on that form of the game

India recall veteran opener to bolster shaky top order for world trophy showdown with Australia

If you pick on the current form/ability, then one would not expect “to see another Mitch Marsh 5 wicket haul on the opening day of a Test at The Oval”; because that occurred almost 4 years ago. And he has played 1 FC game in 2 years when he made 100 not out batting at 7 hitting out against a tired Tasmanian attack on his own dung heap and did not bowl. Very little evidence of current form/ability on display there for an Ashes squad place. Career averages are a good indicator of the player’s ability at any time, provided the number of innings is large enough – say 30. Yeah sure, some players get better over time. No arguments from me there. The question is, who are they? There is no solid evidence that MM has done that, in red-ball cricket. Or are you suggesting that doing well in T20 and 50 overs indicates that you have improved your red-ball game?

OK, then let us not ignore it completely. Then that also means that his batting is probably useless in England. So what do we conclude? Play the guy as a specialist quick in England. But if we think about that a bit more, it is silly because all four of our quicks in the squad are much better bowlers than MM. The point is his England stats are unreliable because most would agree that he is a better test batsman than an average of < 15 suggests. His problem is that he is just not good enough to be a top 6 batsman, nor is he good enough to be a specialist bowler – his overall stats show that. He should never have been chosen in the test squad; Hardie would have been a better all-rounder backup because he can bat – not just stand and hit

Well assuming that is enough to measure his “true” ability in England then he is a great bowler over there and a useless batsman; his batting average is < 15.

From how many innings? If that is a small number then his 15 wickets at 15 is an unreliable indicator of his ability. Don Bradman made a duck in his last test innings. Using that sample of 1 he was a hopeless batsman.

They don’t need to worry, it’s only happened once in 54 innings

Will be a very different contest when they cannot dictate the pitch conditions. We should win by a good distance (if MM does not play 😁 )

Ashes “blow” and he is back playing after a few weeks? A little exaggeration perhaps

Ashes blow for England with star fast bowler going under the knife yet again

Pull the other one. Marsh to open in test cricket? Now I have heard everything

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Yep, she is a nice type

Can this Australian team secure first away Ashes win in 22 years?

Yes, she was cute. I liked Lauren Bacall and Barbara Eden

Yep. I reckon George is incompetent. We need a new chairman of selectors lads

Can this Australian team secure first away Ashes win in 22 years?

Before I say my piece, I must say how sad I am that Barry Humphries has died… Now, back to the cricket: I think we will lose the Ashes series by a large margin. Why? Because our team is unsettled (and the English team is not); for the following reasons: 1. There is a lot of criticism of some selections (Warner, Marsh) which is likely to adversely affect the teams’ performance; 2. Our 4 premier bowlers are all getting long in the tooth. 3. Hazelwood is coming back from injury; 4. None of our current openers or their understudies have done well in England before; 5. the only reason why we drew the series in 2019 was because of Smith’s Bradmanesque performance, and he is unlikely to do that again. 6. England has a rejuvenated approach to playing which gives them momentum and we do not have that. So my prediction is after we lose this series, several guys, including Warner, Smith and Starc will announce their retirements and a new era will begin. R.I.P. Dr Sir Leslie Colin Patterson

Can this Australian team secure first away Ashes win in 22 years?

True. I recall the days of Greg Matthews and Murray Bennett and Gary Gilmour before them – they were discussing the benefit of their all-round skills. But the Green machine is our best since Miller I reckon. Marsh is a very distant 3rd best after Hardie

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Every time Anderson is discussed, his age is highlighted. Does anyone give a rat’s as* how old he is? No. Then why keep bringing it up???

Making a best XI of WTC 2021-23

The probability of requiring a concussion sub is low, so I do not think that is the reason. I think they are responding to bazball mania by selecting MM; and they are stupid enough to do that

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Yep, Davey boy is another one. Crap at test cricket for the past few years and still playing in the IPL

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Marsh will star if the ball is not moving around, if he does not have much pressure on him, and if the bowlers are tired when he comes to the crease. Otherwise, he will average about 25.2 per test innings…
