Neser would have made a lot more sense

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Hitting in batsmen-friendly white ball games does not mean you will succeed in red-ball games. Think Aaron Finch

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

can you tell us your source for that information?

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Yep, Handscomb is really unlucky

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Agree. The selectors have not done a good job recently – the Agar debacle was just few months back. Marsh is a master of none and jack of all trades type at test level – as his record over a decent period shows

Is there a need to have a backup allrounder and should it really be Mitch Marsh?

Agree. Marsh is a hitter and that is all. So he is suited to batsman-biased white ball cricket. He is not adaptable. So he is not suited to the more evenly balanced game of red ball cricket. Hardie has a much better batting technique and is younger, so he would have been a better backup all-rounder for mine.

yep – there is no solid evidence that Marsh has improved his red ball batting. he is still just a hitter

Selectors should be in firing line if Warner gamble costs Australia the world Test trophy and Ashes urn

Yep, agree with your conclusion. There were the balls-up selections with Agar aswell

The troll will die if it is not fed

Well said. What is spooky is the selectors choose these guys. Agar’s average in FC cricket over the previous 4 shield seasons is > 50, and they chose him for the Syndey test and the Indian squad. And they turned out to be bad decisions. It is not rocket surgery – they should pick only guys who do well in FC cricket for our test squad.

Yeah looks like Sheild counts for nothing. The selectors chose Agar for the India squad after averaging over 50 for his most recent 4 shield seasons. Bloody joke. Maybe they will see the light and send MM home like they did with Ashton! Yeah Hardie and Green in the test top 6 is sensible because both are proper red-ball batsmen. MM is just a hitter – if the conditions don’t suit him he is useless – he is not adaptable

We already have played into their hands – by selecting a white-ball specialist who has played 1 FC game in two years and a below-par test batting average of 25; and the chief sector stating that the guy could play in the same team as Green!

Ashes squad announced: Marsh gets surprise recall, Warner avoids axe but two openers picked as cover, Morris out

Yep. Marsh’s selection is astounding – sends a bad signal to the guys who played a lot more FC cricket recently and did much better than him. Gorgeous George’s comments about playing Green and Marsh in the same team are nonsense

Nothing new here – except for your degeneration into personal attack. Time to move on

The guy made 108 against a tiring, average FC attack, on his home ground, batting down the order at number 7 by hitting and having luck (his 100 was at about one run per ball). He has played only one FC game in two years. Think about that. Marsh has improved as a white-ball batsman only – there is no solid evidence that he has improved as a red-ball one. He bats well only when conditions suit him. He is not adaptable. By choosing him in the squad other, better-credentialed red-ball guys miss out – like Neser, Hardie, Handscomb and Bancroft….. His selection sends a bad signal to aspiring test players who have done much better and played a lot more games of FC cricket recently. Think about that.

Marsh should never have had a spot. We only need 1 all rounder. If Green gets injured we can always call up Hardie.

Ashes squad announced: Marsh gets surprise recall, Warner avoids axe but two openers picked as cover, Morris out

He played 1 game of red-ball cricket in the past 2 years. He made 108 not out against Tasmania on his home ground. A sample of 1 in 2 years is weak evidence. We do not need 2 all-rounders, we need 1 all-rounder and specialists. Marsh is just a hitter, he is not a red-ball batsman. If Green gets injured we could always call up our 2nd best red ball allrounder in Hardie.

I just feel pundits don’t allow for the differences in the type of cricket game being played – red ball versus white ball – and make throwaway comments without thinking about the differences in the games. MM does well at white-ball cricket because they are batsman-biased games. Red ball cricket requires patience, a good batting technique, among other things. MM has proved he ain’t good enough – 55 innings for an average of 25. His selection is a joke. Has anyone been thinking???

Neser was always in contention for the Ashes squad – Neser is a specialist. Marsh is a jack of all trades and master of none. He should never have had a spot.

I agree with you. Neser and Hardie must feel pretty bad.

Ashes squad announced: Marsh gets surprise recall, Warner avoids axe but two openers picked as cover, Morris out

Yes sirree Bob! MM is a bit-and-pieces cricketer at test level – not good enough bowler and not good enough batsman. BUT! he is a great guy…

Ashes squad announced: Marsh gets surprise recall, Warner avoids axe but two openers picked as cover, Morris out

God help us if you are right. Test cricket requires different batting skills than white ball, batsmen-friendly cricket. Marsh averages 25 over 55 test innings. A record that shows he is most definitely NOT a test top 6 batsman

From the squad, my team for test 1 and 2: Khawaja, Labuschagne, Harris, Smith, Head, Green, Inglis, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Boland. Hazelwood 12th man. When the real cricketers are playing, Carey can show MM how to play the reverse sweep early in your innings, and MM can be the great guy making everyone feel warm and fuzzy.
