“#6 to a certain extent” – I cheekily call Swinton a 5.75; almost there as #6 imo. Just like I characterise Gamble as a 6.25 (a long way from #7). I am a Waratahs supporter, but I try and look objectively, which is not always easy – I agree with previous comments that the breakdown is critical with the current rules.

Five things: The Reds have flipped the script - and it promises to be rewarded at the Wallabies selection table

“I’m surprised you didn’t have a couple of the U20’s in the side.”

Good point and certainly tangential – but the JWBs/U20s squad selections are puzzling – hopefully they completely review and re-select the upcoming World Squad based on current form rather than past form at school.

“McReight and Wright do probably better than any other player……Unglamorous, hugely draining work that never makes a highlight reel.”
Couldn’t agree more – don’t care what Club/State they play for – we need breakdown specialists. It is the way the game is played with the current rules, and those two are excellent proponents of that art/skill.

“To beat the good teams we need breakdown specialists.”

Agreed – Reds and Brumbies have those specialist players (at #7 and #6 to a certain extent), Waratahs do not.

“Fingers crossed Coach Joe will look to brains over Braun too.”

Agreed brains and effort – as the saying goes: “hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”.

Five things: The Reds have flipped the script - and it promises to be rewarded at the Wallabies selection table

“…Kiss has he talks about the need to dominate the ruck zone to ensure his team gets quick ball”

The Reds get it, the Brumbies get it – quick ball, quick ball, rinse and repeat. Waratahs disagree (at least play like they disagree). All in the BackRow balance – if you play a #5.75 and a #6.25 (Waratahs style at blindside and openside) then you are effectively missing a player at the breakdown.

“Can they just play a longer season next year. With 11 teams”

Agreed – home and away. Longer season, more gate receipts, more content for broadcasters.

The Waratahs were damn lucky they didn’t injure that young Barrett lad when they threw him in at prop a few weeks ago against the Rebels – forget whether he performed good/bad/indifferent; he was playing 2nd Grade Shute Shield (which is fine) and now JWBs – we have to manage these young lads and the stress on their growing bodies.

Jorgo injury adds to Tahs' pain as DC forced to turn to club land to cover FOURTH season-ending hooker blow

“Young Max is proving to be another injury prone kid elevated to the big time (and money) way too early !”

NSWRU and RA panicked – they got bullied by his agent, and ultimately let Jorgensen down….”too much too young” as the Specials said.

“Funny thing is if they were to manage to beat the Force and Moana and one of the Reds…..”
Flawed system to (theoretically) still be able to make the finals from the bottom two positions at this stage – someone on another thread said that is the beauty / excitement of SR – why? To have no recourse for being a poor team such that you can still make it into the top eight with 3 or 4 wins out of 15 – that is why.

It is a serious question – I think he is still physically growing – no medical doctor, just wondering if that could be related to his unfortunate run of leg injuries.

Jorgensen will get paid by Stan as an expert commentator soon.

Another leg injury for Jorgensen – is it because he is still growing?

“What was the point in Jorgo skipping all the pathways like JWB and Shute?”

Brumbies breathe sigh of relief after holding on against physical Drua pack as super sub saves the day

SMH reports Jorgensen injured his hamstring…won’t be playing for anyone for a while.

Might as well just play 14/15 games, then play off when all finished in a knockout format – no consequences for being a poor team, other than having to play the best team again, and get knocked out – just watch the paint dry.

Chiefs all but extinguish Force’s finals hopes in record Tron trouncing, injury concerns for Dmac

Good point – I agree 4/10 is low, but they get to play European Rugby also.

My own personal opinion is that the finals reward should be for the top half rather than top two thirds.

“It often takes till the last round for finals places to be confirmed, that’s a good thing.”
Hmmmm – why is that not surprising with 8 out of 12! Bottom of the ladder can still make it – some strength, why not make it top 10.

“Not as bad as Shute Shielder Jorgensen though.”
Wouldn’t make JWBs on his current form – came off injured for Randwick y/s in their loss vs Norths in Shute Shield.

“Problem is… mathematically, they still have a slim chance.”
Flawed system to (theoretically) still be able to make the finals from the bottom two – make SR home and away, and top six finals, with top two earning the right to a rest/bye week. English Rugby Premiership has 10 teams (home and away) with only top 4 going into finals – season runs for 9 months, as they play in the European Championship in parallel.
More games, more gate revenue, more coverage for broadcasters.

Waratahs 41 missed tackles compared to 15 missed by Hurricanes. 166 tackles made by Waratahs compared to 118 by Hurricanes.

Waratahs looked like they were puffing, and with that many tackles, no surprise.

Waratahs kicked more than Hurricanes – 19 to 16.

Tahs hammered by Hurricanes as finals hopes hang by a thread

“So the Academy players don’t play Colts Rugby at all ?”
Some of the ‘chosen ones’ cherry pick games, and spend more time in the NSW Waratahs Daceyville gym than on the pitch – while others play week-in, week-out.
Watched Saturday Shute Shield Eastwood vs Eastern Suburbs Colts 1s – #6 for Eastwood and #7 for Eastern Suburbs (Easts) stand out players.

The tackle stats are going to be ugly (or good) depending on your perspective.

Tahs hammered by Hurricanes as finals hopes hang by a thread

“In the subject of young guns – the 20’s were well beaten by Argentina….couple blokes in the pack are way out of their depth ,without singling anyone out , the cronyism discussed earlier seemed to be on display”
Yes – terrible conditions, but the back row out of their depth agreed, and no better from the bench. That is a symptom of the flawed NSW Pathways / Academy System.

“How many of those NSW U19’s were also league players just passing through the private school system via their contracted NRL club?”

I believe that stops at U18s (Year 12 School) – NSW U19s is (mostly) chosen from Shute Shield Colts 1s and 2s, who are players committed to Rugby rather than NRL.

NRL still scout around Eastern Suburbs U19s as there are some late developers, or those who the NSW Crony Academy system has ignored. That’s how the two backs were found, and a couple of the back row. Rugby props and 2nd Row are too specific to Union vs League.
