This is thorough – and the best assessment of the Danger-circus I’ve read yet. Any chance you could send this to the man himself? (Pssst…. just don’t send him the Collingwood paragraph at the end).

Mark my words, Adelaide Oval will remain Danger's field

Good points, I hope you’re right Sarah!
If he does decide to go, then the crows have that final lifeline of being able to match any offer – which no other club has done yet for a restricted free agent. While we all hope it doesn’t come to this, there is a first time for eveything and I think the crows would have no choice but to do so. He’s simply too important.

Danger, danger, high voltage: Why Dangerfield will remain a Crow

Getting the best man for the job, who happens to be from port, is not following any port road map to success. What success? They haven’t done any better than the crows in the last few years – both getting to the same prelim two years apart. Gutsy decision by the crows to sack Sando. It would have been much easier to not do it.

The life of Sando: Was he the messiah?

Your F grade for the crows is very harsh and if you’d listened to their recruiting strategy you would understand that they’ve done rather well. They addressed a need in the ruck – deciding Gorringe wasn’t for them and picked Lowden instead – who incidentally, wanted to come (unlike Gorringe). Do you think they should have brought in two ruckmen? I don’t think so because the rookie list and late draft can address any further shortfalls in this department. They added hardness to the backline in Cheney which was much-needed. They basically gave up nothing to get these two players, bar dropping four picks in each of the first and second round (and actually improving their position in the 3rd round). You have to take their recruiters at face value when they say they will still get their man at pick 14. Most importantly, they didn’t bring in any free agents or high profile players – which would/could have affected their free-agent retention strategy for 2014 (Dangerfield, Walker, Douglas). Well done crows. My grade = B+.

The 2014 AFL trade and free agency report card

You don’t seem to want to take my poin but that’s fine I’ll give it one more shot… I recommend that you take your own advice and go back and watch some old games because it is most over the top now compared to back then. Yes, all we want is a correct decision and they have a tough job with the subjectivity of the rules – this is my point – if the correct decision is all the umpire has to think about then I put to you that the correct decision will be easier to make if they don’t have to worry about their coached mannerisms. I think umpires would get a lot more support if they stop carrying on in this way – we are not there to watch the umpires so why make a spectacle of them? I never even notice football (soccer) or Rugby Union referees (until, indeed, they make a crap call).

Why are AFL umpires so disrespected by fans?

You know very well what I mean – take the theatre out of it and just make the call. Of course they have to manouvre so they can see the play but they run backwards when they don’t need to, make over-enthusiastic holding the ball, holding the man, etc. Even the boundary and goal umpires over act. This is a recent development too and i don’t know why they brought it in. Do you? No other sports do it. Take it away and see what happens… oh yeah, why don’t you quote me next time because i’m not sure what i said…

Why are AFL umpires so disrespected by fans?

A lot of it has to do with the way they prance around, run backwards an so forth. This is where the ‘centre of attention’ claim comes from. You say that Rugby Union and League umpires have more respect, well that’s because they run and act normally. I don’t know why in aussie rules we don’t just teach the umpires how to interpret the game and not worry about mannerisms – they have enough to think about without remembering that they have to not just make a holding the ball decision, but must ‘act’ a holding the ball decision – just pay the free, don’t draw attention to yourself

Why are AFL umpires so disrespected by fans?

This is a balanced and well written article on the fierce rivalry – why can’t there be more balance when it comes to writing about the fierce rivalry that is these two teams?! Good job author.

Fire up! It's Showdown week

The ‘Collingwood wearing the Big V’ argument doesn’t fly, the AFC is a product of the SANFL and its teams- whereas Collingwood wasn’t a product of the VFL. The state and colours are the AFC’s heritage. So different scenarios.
It would have been great to see the jumper – which isn’t used any more (but when it is used – by the SANFL state team – all manner of footballer wears it, including the non South Australian Joel Tippett who wore it against his home state) back in action at the top level – and was a brilliant idea by the crows – sadly not to be due to an SANFL cock-up… but don’t blame the crows for this.
Should Port be stripped of it’s rip-off state guernsey too?

Adelaide Crows jumper move is disrespectful

Contrary to popular belief, Bailey did save Australia with the bat in this Ashes series…
I was there on Day 1 in Adelaide when Australia lost four quick wickets and England had all the momentum… Smith had just been bowled last ball before lunch By Panesar. Bailey came in and crafted a superb partnership with Clarke, seeing off the shaky period before pressing later in the middle session and then after tea. Bailey and Clarke put on 83 for the 5th wicket (a partnership that Bailey dominated with 53 runs) – putting Australia back in the match and laying the foundations for one B.Haddin to come in and take charge. Had it not been for a brilliant catch by Swann we may have seen a ton from Bailey.
Yes I know, this is just once, but it was a crucial knock in the context of the game…and is overshadowed by Haddin and Clarke’s brilliant 100s…

Give him the first test in South Africa!

Should you ever change a winning team?

Agree about the toss. As for the drinks break, this is not actually used for drinks anymore (as you’ve pointed out there are ample opportunities for drinks), the drinks break has evolved to a ‘regrouping’ or ‘ time-out’ for the fielding side to talk tactics, plan their next move etc. How often do you see a wicket fall very quickly after a drinks break? It’s part of the test match, and not in an antiquated way, but in an evolving way…

Time to change cricket's antiquated rules

NIce one Ryan. Anderson should take a leaf out of Broad’s book – Broad, appears to be able to dish it out AND take it in good competitive humour. Anderson on the other hand can only do one of these…

The return of the 'Ugly Aussies'? Utter rubbish

“The Swans yesterday confirmed it was the league – and the not the club – which paid out the 9.8 per cent bonus…meaning the AFL had effectively paid for Kurt Tippett to become a Sydney Swan.”

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/sydneys-98-per-cent-bonus-helped-the-swans-afford-former-crow-kurt-tippett-clubs-say/story-e6frf9nf-1226602840027

They can pay their players more.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the Swans

It was sure nice of the AFL to pay for Kurt Tippett to join their premiership winning line-up too…

How I learned to stop worrying and love the Swans

It must be so boring for the English players playing ‘not to lose’. It’s probably boring for the supporters too, and their cricket writers… Luckily there are captains and teams out there that will look after the game of cricket.

Don't sugar coat it: England won 3-0

It was heart-breaking and harrowing to watch, but these guys tried their guts out this time and were on top for a lot of the match. They just weren’t good enough. They are a line-up that’s been together for a few weeks against a line-up that’s been together for a few years. I really feel for them this time, and think it’s unfair to say they’re just piss-weak. I think they’ve given England a lot to think about for the return series and maybe the luck will be on our side then. As an underdog, all one can ask for is an honest effort and in the last two tests Australia has given us this.

Geoff Lemon's Ashes Diary: Welcome to Pissweak World

Yes good call Ryan this is the point. I don’t think anyone’s mentioned yet that Cowan can’t run between the wickets either…

We must stick steady with steady Eddy

Agreed… and if it weren’t for Cowan’s shot, Clarke wouldn’t have faced this ball. Grrr Cowan.

ASHES: The big talking points from day one

Knighta is a great bloke and player – shattered to see him go down. He’ll be back!

Sanderson will get what he deserves

OK. Take Kennedy and Darling out of West Coast… same thing, a big hole. You’re with everyone else who says Walker and Tippett are not a big loss. Well, it is. Even if, as you say, Tippett hasn’t been the best key forward, he still takes the first or second key defender which frees up another (Walker). James Hird didn’t lose his highest paid player for nothing, in fact, he gained one (Goddard). Hardly a disadvantage. The point of the article anyway, is that Sanderson had a hell of a lot to deal with in his first 12 months – and has passed in flying colours, in my opinion. Who said anything about media pressure? Never mentioned it, but, ok…Yes I am based in Adelaide, and is stated in my Roar profile, if that make a difference to anything. Thanks for the read!

Sanderson will get what he deserves

Great. Go ahead I will be interested to see if there’s any substance to this remark.

Sanderson will get what he deserves

It all happened within Sanderson’s first 12 months which is what I was referring to…

Sanderson will get what he deserves

See above comment. Thanks.
