My point is why are they not playing now, especially Oar and Zullo?

Excuse my negativity, but this football as a whole in this nation is showered in mediocrity…

I will never forgive Verbeek for what he did to Scott Mcdonald..

Australia really must hate winning… Showcasing a fabulous Asain brand of football that 3/4 of the team are accustomed to..

Australian cricket's Unlucky XI: Part one

Hey Sheek,

Thanks for broadening my knowledge, always good to hear about some of the players from yesteryear. I’ve come across a number of players that made an impact well before my time and and of course they deserve their slice of the cake, but I felt I was in no position to comment. I tried to base this article on my experiences with cricket and not that of a journalist or statastician from way back.

It’s like I always say when people ask the question “who makes your list for the best cricketers of all time”, I can’t comment, you’re asking my opinion and If i was to say names like Bradman, Sobers, Hammond, Hobbs, Headley, Richards and so on and so forth, i’d be basing that solely on the general consensus?

I’m a realist, I tend to view things as they really are – I pay tribute to the greats of the game, but I’m virtually in no position to comment subjectively.

I also love music from the 60’s/70’s/80’s … No wonder people say I’m a 40 year old trapped in a 19 year old body!

Australian cricket's Unlucky XI: Part one

I was rather Tasmanian top heavy, but you are right, Hills certainly made his mark on the game.. Unfortunately with naming an XI, there is always going to be those that miss out. I recognised Martin Love because as a cricketer he fascinated me. He struck me as a smart cricketer, very rarely did i see him let his guard down..

Being only 19, I haven’t witnessed a great deal of cricket compared to the majority here, however if I’m not playing or writing about it, I’m generally face down in a book about the games history.

Hi AndyMack,

Spoiler alert, Darren Lehmann does not feature in this side. To be honest I’m not sure why, his record in domestic cricket is unsurpassed and his performances at a national level were solid. My aim, especially with the batsmen, was to pick cricketers who didn’t play or if they did, barely played at all (Brad Hodge’s 6 Test caps being the most). In hindsight maybe I should have mentioned this and/or given Lehmann a plug nonetheless.

Kudos for referrencing “Bellerive Oval” and not Blundstone Arena.

Bellerive will remain unmarketable, everyone in Tassie acknowledges it’s historical name and not that of a shoe manufacturer!

There is only so much of this commercialised nonsense that i can take.. Time to channel surf before they announce the inevitable!

Allan Border Medal: Live updates, blog

We parted ways with Ponting on the grounds that his services as captain were no longer needed.. I respect that, but why go back to Ricky? For months the word “future” has been tossed around profusely, yet it seems we are not looking at the future whatsoever? Why have a vice captain if he is not required in Clarke’s absence? In fact, why appoint Warner in the first place if he is “not ready”? It defeats the purpose of a vice captain..

Clive Palmer is a egoistic dunce.. but at least he gave a young player a crack at captaining the side (inevitably it was the wrong move)

Ricky Ponting, you are the weakest link: Goodbye!

This concerns me..

John Inverarity needed to tap Ponting on the shoulder and tell him his career was on the line, that he was going to be dropped.

Ponting could then announce his retirement from One Day cricket and leave with his credability in check and head to his home town of Hobart and end his career there.

Ponting being appointed captian followed by his removal from the side just reinforces that Inverarity and his selection team have no idea..

Thanks for sharing that article HP, very interesting to read.

What does administration mean for Glasgow Rangers?

There is no question where your allegiance lies Simmo 😉

However, as a celtic fan, surely this remarkable rivalry is what fans live for?

You need Rangers to survive as a club for the SPL to survive.. Celtic will go unchalleneged throughout the year and although you may say thats fantastic news, it’s terrible for football.

If the Rangers do fold, Celtic may look at a move to the premierleague, who knows?

Luis Suarez has brought shame on English football

Brisbane will leapfrog Wellington into second place and with Wellington travelling to Bluetonuge next week for a clash with the ladder leaders, Brisbane will be confident they can hold off the Phoenix as we close in on post-season action.

Wellington only have themselves to blame after conceding 17 fouls, 4 of which resulted in yellow cards. Ricki Hebert was happy for his side to sit back and defend while Brisbane pressed, but Ifill was dragged horribly out of position and limited Wellington’s options in front of goal.

For Brisbane, they made good use of the wings and had the luxury of two versatile full-backs who pitched in their fair share of work up the field.

The goal from Berisha came off the back of some great passing and capped off with a fantastic ball from Erik Paartalu.

Leo Bertos had to cast the role of a striker almost and looked inept in front of goal. I’ve touched on it before, but Herbert’s approach to this contest was questionable. The generally free-following style of football we’ve grown accustom to was no where to be seen.

As mentioned, Wellington head to the Central Coast on the 18th for their clash with the Mariners while Brisbane play host to the Melbourne Victory on the 18th as welll.

Well that concludes the Roar’s live commentary coverage of the game today, be sure to keep a close eye on the Gold Coast vs Adelaide game live blog. http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/02/12/gold-coast-united-vs-adelaide-united-a-league-live-scores/

BRISBANE 2 – WELLINGTON 0

Tim Brown may aruge the card, but no one can argue the result of the match. Brisbane were the better of the sides and the result justifies their dominance.

Brisbane still looking to score, Berisha looks hungry for a second.. In contrast, Wellington look shot, they would like to put this contest behind them.

YELLOW CARD show to Tim Brown, He will be suspended for next weeks game.. Things are just going sour for Ricki Herberts men.

Nichols strike on goal slams into the back of a Wellington defender, almost an identical finish as the previous goal.

Stu,

I must revert to your comment earlier today, “I hope Nichols doesn’t play, I want Brisbane to win”.

I’m interested to here your thoughts on him now 😉 haha
