I really want to see Debreczeni run too, right up to the advantage line, holding the ball in two hands. This part of his game has been absent so far this year – he just cycles the ball on without bending the line or putting any defenders in two minds. Seems to be standing two paces too deep when he receives the ball. Whether this is due to Stirzaker’s absence or simply following the new attack coach’s plan is hard to gauge, but I hope Big Jack gets going again soon.

Stirzaker returns to boost Rebels

Yea, verily, your wish is our command, Lord Josh, Keeper of the Wasteland, Almighty Ruler of the Western Tribes, Oligarch of the Sunset People, Omniscient Albeit Unelected Leader of the Vast Numberless Multitude.

No, it should not be the Western Sydney Force

And the fact that WA is three hours behind the East Coast means it gets much more daylight. That’s another advantage (even if it does mean that curtains in Perth homes fade much more quickly.)

Am I right or am I right?

No, it should not be the Western Sydney Force

How can shooting one or more Australian S15 franchises (and thus breaching an agreement that will generate AUD $285m over the next five years) be characterised as anything other than “giving up a lot”?

No, it should not be the Western Sydney Force

Indeed. Well said.

No, it should not be the Western Sydney Force

Wrong: Australians love watching soccer with flare(s). They love watching rugby with flair.

The qualities that make a great Australian Super Rugby team

The oft-mentioned argument about five Aussie Super teams being too many defies logic. With fewer professional pathways available to take, please explain how MORE potential up and comers can be uncovered, nurtured, blooded and quickly brought into a SMALLER fold? I live in Victoria. Is it simply coincidence that Robert Leota and Sione Tuipulotu have come up so quickly from the Dewar Shield comp, with the latter making a great debut on Saturday night? Is it just good luck that Sefanaia Naivalu and Sean McMahon each got and took their respective opportunities a year or two earlier than they would have had they been at the Tahs, Reds or Brumbies? There are 18 AFL teams. 16 ARL teams. 10 A League teams. Yet the constant refrain from so-called rugby supporters in Australia is the pool of players is too small. Two words: egg, chicken.

Melbourne Rebels vs Queensland Reds highlights: Rebels hold on in thrilling finish

The Hinge back in Gold? NOooooooo…….

Who will be the next Wallaby tight-head?

Damn! Couldn’t the Reds board have waited just one more week?? Now we’ll have to face the bounce-back, show-the-new-coach-what-we’re-really-made-of Reds next Saturday. **sigh**

Richard Graham sacked as Reds coach

Super Rugby cannot be taken seriously? The competition which produced the four World Cup finalists is a piss take? Both labels may apply to your pronouncement, MT, but are completely off the mark for the intended target. SR may be guilty of grand dreams of a globally-dominant competition but it’s certainly bloody serious. 2016 has produced a very odd season from a fixtures point of view, but so what? How good was it to see the Jaguares squaring off with the Cheetahs. How good was it to see 21,000 Japanese fans screaming for the Sunwolves? What about when teams from North America and extra teams from South America sign up? One of Rugby’s great strengths is it’s global reach. SR more than any other rugby competition is doing its best to maximise that strength. More power to its arm.

Kurtley Beale outstanding in ordinary Waratahs win

Thanks Nathan – great work.

I agree with you disagreeing with Redsback about him disagreeing with Spiro about Genia.

Stirzaker is the coming scrummy. (For that matter, his halves buddy, Debreczini, is the coming flyhalf).

Cheika needs to rebuild the Wallabies from Super Rugby

Yep, absolutely right about our lineout. Leafa was the main culprit, but the sheer lack of height and no one capable of a fabulous vertical leap also contributed. Let’s hope that these things get fixed this year.

On yers TWAS, couldn’t bl**dy agree more!

And Spiro – objectivity and impartiality – they exist.

Pulver's strategic plan is his change to fund rugby properly

Two words on which Henry Speight should latch to focus his learning: Ellia Green

Aussie women show rugby sevens class

I don’t know how to interpret this result. Or, for that matter, the very muted lead-up to the ’16 season wrought by the new owners – the vibe this year can best be described as subsonic. Work pressures kept me from attending the recent open training day. If anyone here did attend, I’d be very interested in getting their thoughts on what they saw and perceived.

The Eddie Jones dickhead policy faces its first test

It’s OK. GS told him that Robshaw is coming along nicely and to just be patient.

Eddie Jones asks Wallaby great for English assistance

A simple (and simplistic) solution to a complex issue. Never a great match.

A league of our own: Australia should pull the pin on Super Rugby

Breaking down the laws of rugby for newbies

You can’t have anyone running interference as that is obstruction “unless you can con or bribe the ref into calling it a maul, in which case he will turn temporarily blind until one of the obstructed players falling over, upon which he will promptly raise a yellow card and send the poor bugger into the sin bin and half the crowd into conniptions”.

Breaking down the laws of rugby for newbies

Erm, the Rebels have signed two Victorian-born and bred schoolboys – Rob Leota and Sione Tuipulotu, as well as Paul Asquith, Dan Hawkins, Harley Fox and Reece Hodge; none have any Super experience.

Excitement at each club ahead of 2016

Great wrap, Ben, 2015 certainly was a year. One thing you omitted to mention was the weather. By my reckoning there was weather every day this past year. That must have had some effect, surely?
