A key is to improve the pitches – perhaps get the ICC in. They are low and slow and favour finger spinners too much. As a result too few of the WI players know how to bat time and score big 100s (only Kraigg Brathwaite). The batters all seem to have poor 1st class averages. They also use a Dukes ball and as a result their seamers are terrible when they bowl with the Kookaburra (like Woakes from England)

The 2005 Lions that the ABs thrashed 3-0 was far from competitive- they were terrible!

NZ hasn’t played any tests in the Caribbean since 2014 when a masterclass from a young Williamson set up a win in the 3rd test (2-1 series win).

Bangladesh are already miles better than the Windies in tests and probably better than Sri Lanka (definitely will be once the likes of Mathews and Chandimal retire for SL). I expect them (Bangladesh( to be the team to watch in the next 5-6 years.

That’s a bit of a meaningless stat though as Australia played far far more tests than anyone else. It just shows he got fewer runs than Khawaja but more than Labuschagne and Head.

The two factors that’ll decide whether Smith’s opening gambit is a surprising success or ill-conceived failure

Harry Brook is (at the moment) ahead of Voges.

Re Smith his average has dropped below the likes of Barrington, Weekes, and Hammond and looks likely to drop lower than what Sobers and Sangakkara managed.

Big ask to expect Green to be another Kallis. As a Kiwi I’m just hoping that Rachin Ravindra ends up a better version of Sanath Jayasuriya.

Four sight: Callous critics need to realise 'something special' factor can turn Green into Australia's Jacques Kallis

Keepers who stand up to medium pacers and the blokes who field where it is “silly” would like a word.

'In Green's favour' - history shows manufactured openers work for Australia

Warner is probably the most-maligned cricketer of this generation.

What a difference a few seasons makes... Mitch Marsh has gone from the most hated in cricket to universally adored

After reading this article I predict it will be Smith and he’ll average 70 at a 65 s/r.

Every Australian Test opener option, ranked: Why sending Smith up is a recipe for disaster

The pitches in NZ will be challenging for the 1st 2 sessions of day 1 onwards and good from then onwards. Apart from an injury-prone attack Kyle Jamieson the NZ attack shouldn’t be too daunting, unless the selectors gamble on a young quick like Ben Sears or Will O’Rourke.

Test Mortem: Smith to opener an act of convenience, team shows signs of fatigue, Pakistan selectors' costly blunder

It is time to move to 4 day tests. Only then can sides outside the big 3 host 3(+) match test series.

Farcical 'gut feel' twist to umps' bad light decision after play delay slammed, great's left-field Warner replacement call

Haris Rauf has only played 1 test (1 wicket for 78) and 9 1st class games. He is a white ball specialist.

South Africa backstabbed the Black Caps with their squad of leftovers - and twisted the knife into Test cricket

The Saffas launched their big pro T20 tournament last year. This is the 2nd year for it.

Surely Mitchell Starc would be close to being Aussie’s best all-format player? Australia’s best modern-day white ball bowler and pretty decent test bowler who is a useful no 8 bat.
Edit: Ignore that – I just noticed it says batter, not player.

Warner is an all-time great - but he’s not Australia’s best ever multi-format player

Babar Azam and Daryl Mitchell.

No worries

'Seminal moment for Test cricket': Alarm bells as South Africa names seven new faces in second-rate NZ tour squad

Gotta say I’m pretty disappointed, although this was in our sports news about 6 months ago

If NZ drops Nicholls for Ravindra we’d have a top 7 of Latham, Ravindra (or Conway), Williamson, Conway (or Ravindra), Mitchell, Phillips, Blundell (wk) which would be strongest ever and would’ve been great to see how they matched up against Rabada, Jansen and co. Anyway, I hope it is still a cracking series. England sent a B netball team out here a few months ago and they actually beat the Silver Ferns, so you never know.

We should still get decent crowds. We have some young quicks who will hopefully get a crack (please move on from Neil Wagner!), everyone wants to watch the exciting Rachin Ravindra (surely we’ll move on from Henry Nicholls), and with Williamson sitting on 29 test 100s lots of fans would love to be there in case he reaches number 30.

Last time I checked India lost their last 2 test series in NZ and won their last 2 test series in Australia.

Pakistan are playing 5 T20s here starting a few days after they play the 3rd test in Sydney.

They were probably annoyed he was in the NZ team ahead of Lee Germon.

COMMENT: Can we please stop rewriting history about Mitch Marsh just because everyone loves him now?

Marsh is much better at white ball cricket but Parore was a world class keeper and a handy no 7/8 (no Adam Gilchrist with the bat, but handy enough). The Cantabs booed him as an Aucklander (did the same to Carlos Spencer).

COMMENT: Can we please stop rewriting history about Mitch Marsh just because everyone loves him now?

He was very poor earlier in his career as Australia wanted an allrounder and picked him far too early but after a million chances has come good and is playing very well now. Also, Marsh is hardly the first cricketer to be booed by his fellow countrymen. I remember Adam Parore being booed by a Christchurch crowd while playing for NZ, and he was twice the test cricketer Mitchell Marsh will ever be.

87/88 was an unbeaten season due to Aussie umpiring when Craig McDermott was given not out to an absolutely plumb LBW off Danny Morrison.
