He was very poor earlier in his career as Australia wanted an allrounder and picked him far too early but after a million chances has come good and is playing very well now. Also, Marsh is hardly the first cricketer to be booed by his fellow countrymen. I remember Adam Parore being booed by a Christchurch crowd while playing for NZ, and he was twice the test cricketer Mitchell Marsh will ever be.

COMMENT: Can we please stop rewriting history about Mitch Marsh just because everyone loves him now?

87/88 was an unbeaten season due to Aussie umpiring when Craig McDermott was given not out to an absolutely plumb LBW off Danny Morrison.

Is Pakistan-West Indies worst summer schedule of all time? How this season stacks up against the stinkers of the past

Also controversially Ravindra didn’t make the test eleven. He’d probably walk into every other team in the world.

World Cup stars reject nagging question ahead of Test summer

The 2019 Cricket and the 2023 Rugby World Cup finals were both more farcical than 07.

Which champion team is greatest in World Cup history? India one win away from rivalling best of all time

How? Man for man 07 has much better batting and fielding while bowling is equal or 2007 is slightly ahead. 99 had Warne who was obviously better than Hogg, but 07 had Nathan Bracken who was miles better than any Aussie 90s ODI seamer except McGrath, and Symonds and Watson were both far better with the ball than Tom Moody.

Not enough love for the 2007 Aussies. As a Kiwi they are the best imo. We beat Australia in 1999 with a fairly average team after a Cairns-Twose partnership and should’ve beaten you in 03 after a superb Shane Bond spell, but no one in the world got close to the 2007 Australian side.
They had the best fielding unit ever with Symonds, Ponting, Hussey, and Clarke plus the strongest batting – Hussey at 7!!, and 6 genuine bowling options thanks to having both Watson and Symonds who are Australia’s 2 best ever ODI allrounders.

I know he was born and grew up in Pakistan (only coming to SA as an adult) but Imran Tahir was a great ODI spinner.

Chokes on you: The TEN times skittish South Africans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory

Well done India. Shami should be player of the tournament.
I don’t think Boult, Southee, Ferguson, and Latham should play another ODI for NZ. Likewise Neesham. None will make the next Champions Trophy and we have better and younger options so it is time to move on.

'Perfect picture': King Kohli smashes ton to break Tendulkar's world record as India send New Zealand out of World Cup

The strange thing about Ravindra was that everyone in NZ knew he was a top order player but the selectors tried to turn him into a no 6 or 7.

World Cup player stock market: Whose shares are rising and plummeting after Indian odyssey?

He bowled very well for NZ in some T20s in Bangladesh a couple of years ago, but his T20 batting stats (for Wellington and NZ) are poor which is sometimes due to batting down the order. Wellington has had Conway, Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Ravindra, and Neesham at various times in the last couple of years so the batting is a bit stacked.

If it hadn’t been for Cummins, Australia would’ve lost to NZ and Afghanistan and probably missed the semifinals.

I’d also put the following in the top 10

Ross Taylor’s 181* which was done on one leg (was injured) against the Poms to chase down 335 after coming in at 2/2.

Javed Miandad’s 100 v India in the 80s (last ball 6 to win 9 down).

Michael Bevan 78* to beat the Windies in a superb chase in 95/96.

Anyway, Maxwell should be no 1 ahead of Viv and Kapil especially as he was chasing.

‘Greatest ODI innings ever’: Does Maxi's Mumbai miracle beat Kapil, Viv, Sachin, Gilchrist for best knocks in cricket history?

Although unfortunately Sodhi is the worst fielder in the squad, but with Mark Chapman freshly injured and Williamson & Southee both recovering from injury it was either Sodhi or one of the coaching/medical staff.

‘Deplorable’ batting stumbling block and costly bowling problem: Australia’s two glaring issues to fix at World Cup

As well as being a top class fielder and a devastating hitter, Maxwell has been Australia’s best bowler:

0 for 33 off 10 vs India
2 for 34 off 10 vs South Africa
1 for 36 off 9.3 v Sri Lanka

1st picked in the team

Angry Aussies are back with lift in intensity but still yet to prove they're legit World Cup contenders

If NZ picks a full strength team including Boult (hopefully available for one last crack at Australia) and Jamieson (hopefully 100% fit) that should be a decent test series though.

Twin DRS controversies leave Aussies fuming as latest collapse, fielding nightmare sum up huge loss to Proteas

I’d say Bangladesh are more likely to make the semis than Sri Lanka especially as Hasuranga isn’t playing due to injury.

Australia’s ageing cricket team about to fall off a cliff even if they can rebound from opening World Cup failure

How are we “punching above our weight”?!? I’m so sick of this insulting and patronising rubbish. Henry and Boult are the best new ball attack at the tournament while Santner is a quality ODI bowler. Meanwhile Conway, Mitchell, and Phillips are all world class, Ravindra is a talented youngster and Latham is a very good player of spin.

Widest of margins! Black Caps get revenge on England as records tumble: 'We're not robots, sometimes you don't play well'

It is hardly curtains for NZ if Williamson goes down as our batting is quite strong. This is probably the strongest batting lineup we’ve taken to a World Cup with Conway, Mitchell, Phillips, Latham, Young, Ravindra, Chapman, and Neesham. The likes of Nicholls and Finn Allen couldn’t even make the squad

Wow, great side.

One thing though – Donald isn’t SA’s greatest fast bowler; Steyn is.

Team of the Month: An October-born World Cricket XI

Well Blind Freddie could see we were robbed in 2019.

We won the Champions Trophy in the early 2000s when Cairns got a century in the final.

Should be like All Blacks but more like Wallabies - why Indian cricket team is one of world sport’s great under-achievers

Maxwell’s bowling will be key for Australia as Zampa is the only spinner. Apart from the Dutch, the Ozzies have the worst spin attack in the tournament.

Nah, it was a NZ C team. The main players were being rested while the back ups were playing for NZ in the UAE and England.

Mediocre displays a testament to Australia's lack of depth

Wales 40-6. I thought for a minute that Glamorgan had broken away from English cricket and that Cummins, Hazlewood, and Starc had destroyed their batting order. (Too soon?)

In all seriousness, major commiserations from across the Ditch. I really hope that some potentially decent players (in 4-5 years) haven’t been destroyed by this. As a Kiwi I wish you guys all the best and am worried for the future of rugby in our part of the world.

There are some promising signs, but I’m still not overly confident.

ANALYSIS: The game plan changes that have revived the All Blacks as a World Cup force

Well done Aussies. Congrats from a Kiwi.

PS I reckon England were less deserving when they won the 2009 Ashes.
