Interesting. Definitely agree with the defence it hasn’t been this strong for a long time. And yeah midfield is set. I think Margiotta has been a bit inconsistent but some of his play in close and passing out wide to wingers has impressed me. Daggers is a handy sub to come off the bench and to be co-leading the golden boot only playing half of the game time is something! Folami has had the odd poor game but some of his runs down the wing using strength to stay on the ball, for mine has been really exciting. Rojas and Ikonomidis are the first choice wingers still I’d say so once they’re fit Folami will be a handy sub. But I can see where you’re coming from, Victory haven’t dominated games this season and have looked average at times. But they’ve found a way to win games and get points without creating too many chances, something good teams do!

Cellar dwellers to top of the table: Dissecting Melbourne Victory's season so far

True, Victory’s Asian Champions League record is really poor.
True, the homophobic comments targeted at Cavallo are disgusting and fans should be banned. Haven’t seen anything about racism but if that’s the case, again not on at all.
True, Leigh Broxham is playing Mr. Fix It again and is doing a good job at it.
I think if Kelava was keeping at your club you’d love him as well but perhaps not, I think he’s good for the game. And perhaps I’m one-eyed but haven’t noticed favourable refereeing this season. Yes they were lucky against Adelaide with that one offside decision but that’s all I’ve noticed. Copped a red card against Perth that last season wasn’t given to an opponent in similar but worse circumstances.
Thanks for your comment!

Fair enough, Gawn isn’t 30 yet though.

All good points. If I was picking the side to play a match then your advice would definitely be used. I agree you’d need another defensive player on the bench, you could possibly swing a Pendlebury to half back but he’d be out of position. Smith would be the best running option, and maybe a key defender like Jeremy Howe on the bench so Blicavs has cover when he is the second ruck. That or, as you said, pick another ruckman like Ryder or Goldstein.

Yeah that happens to most of us! Thought you’d be more critical of Steele Sidebottom and Jeremy Howe’s omissions for a Pies fan to be honest. I was extremely close to including both those players.

Thanks mate. You mean he should be on-field? If so, yeah could easily make the first 18. It was a toss of the coin really.

I’m a Hawthorn supporter but yes as you said there were some tough decisions I could have got wrong in a lot of people’s opinions. Obviously I think Kennedy’s career has been better than Walker’s but at the moment Tex is second in the Coleman so it was hard not to pick him. Just went for the best player as skipper, didn’t give it too much thought. Thanks for joining the conversation, it’s all just a bit of fun in the end!

Actually that’s incorrect Don, Hawthorn have won the most flags in the AFL with 5 (91, 08, 13, 14, 15) and West Coast have 4 (92, 94, 06, 18). All I’m saying is it’s very difficult to win 20 premierships in 70 odd years, and I don’t think you’ll do it. Happy to revisit this when the time comes, however!

Hawthorn’s next premiership defence is already here

Hawks have been in the comp for 96 seasons and have won 13 flags, going at roughly a flag every 7 seasons. Freo have been in the comp for 27 seasons and have won 0 flags, going at 0 flags every 27 seasons. Your prediction of 20 flags by the time you reach Hawthorn’s current time in the competition would mean one flag every 3.45 seasons for the next 69 years. No team in the competition has gone close to that rate over their existence. The closest team? Hawthorn.

Thanks mate! Yes I agree completely, our backline looks very promising but other areas of the ground need work. It’s good to see Koschitzke and Moore develop this season in the forward half, but as you said we do lack firepower down there. And yes, Clarko at the helm just makes you breath easier doesn’t it! We’re in good hands.

Frost is currently quite important to our side. I’m hoping DGB can replace him when Frost’s career starts to come to an end. One more key defender would be handy to have in our tool kit as well.

Even if we do need one more key tall I feel our defence is still the area of least concern.

Yeah Sicily and DGB can probably swap positions. It’ll be interesting to see if we do get another key tall how he fits into this side, as I think those first 7 players named are pretty much locks going forward. Maybe Will Day pushes into the midfield eventually? I’m hoping DGB can play a Harris Andrews role, intercepting but also locking down a key forward at the same time. What type of player he becomes remains to be seen though.
