While all of the young inexperienced Australian 10s (and every Australian pro player not on the Wallabies) played no competitive rugby since Super Rugby Pacific ended in July, Perofeta, Sullivan (Blues), Morgan, Cameron (Hurricanes), Ioane, Trask (Chiefs), Burke, Kemara (Crusaders), and Miller (Highlanders) all gained one more season of starting at 10 on their NPC teams and of course improving their skills and decion-making.

'A really even battle': Tahs' No.10 jersey wide open after Donno's departure, Jorgo on track for Super start

Mo’unga had won 3 consecutive Super Rugby titles as the starting 10 at the Crusaders by the time he was 25. Just saying.

Patrick Tuipulotu is only 30 years old (same age as Scott Barrett) and has 46 All Black caps. He was injured all of 2023 and unavailable for RWC selection. Tuipulotu will get the first crack at starting with Scott in second row, and all of a sudden, the All Blacks are not so inexperienced in the engine room but 2 tight forwards entering their prime years.

Va’ai does not impress at all and I expect him to digress without Brodie Retallick beside him in the scrum at the Chiefs.

Quentin Strange had a very good 2023 season along side Scott Barrett at Crusaders last season and played very well for All Blacks XV vs Japan and may be ready to step up.

Pari Pari Parkinson is entering his prime and its now or never for the Highlander, who is very tall and powerfully built.

Josh Lord, Fabian Holland, and Sam Derry are all very young but with great height and potential.

Rugby News: Raiwalui to step away from coaching as new role confirmed, Razor won't rush call on All Blacks captain

Hansen was a great coach but after 12 years and 3 RWC cycles, he should have graciously left the team after the 2015 RWC. He clearly ran out of ideas and the team steadily declined from 2016-2019.
NZR made the right decision to renew and move in a new direction under a new highly successful coach in May, regardless of whether Foster leads All Blacks to a fourth World Cup title as Foster has had his 12 years with the team.

The All Blacks and Springbok are 1-1 in 2023 and 1-1 in 2022.

So the unbiased observer gives the All Blacks a 50/50 chance to defeat the Springboks next week.

Let’s see if Boks survive England and do not get any red cards or serious injuries.

No injuries for All Blacks 😊

I think the All Blacks won yesterday despite a fairly average performance. Certainly not anywhere near their best. I think this was best case scenario as the All Blacks should be able plenty of fuel in the tank to reproduce a QF level vs Ireland performance in the Gold Medal Final next week.

I really hope that Ian Foster wins a gold medal and gets his knighthood after winning the World Cup next weekend. Foster has proven that with very good assistant coaches and a veteran team, he can lead a team and inspire greatness. That is a great feat.

However, I don’t believe that after 12 years with the All Blacks as an assistant and head coach that he should have been re-appointed, regardless of whether the All Blacks win next week or not. I think Steve Hansen proved in 2019 that even a great coach runs out of ideas and a new voice with a new vision is required after 12 years of coaching with a team ( 3 RWC cycles). Hansen should have left after 2015. This is the exact point Foster is now.

I think the appointment of Scott Robertson was the right call back in May and it is still the right call now.

But I wish Ian Foster goes out a world champion and moves on to new opportunities ( for his own sanity, not in Australia however ????)

I disagree with your comment that Super Rugby is not the great stepping stone it once was- it still is for NZ franchises as the Kiwi derby matches are extremely physical and as tough and hard as ant matches between NZ and SA franchises of old.

Ethan DeGroot, Tyrell Lomax, Samisoni Taukei’aho, Tamaiti Williams, Fletcher Newell, Tupou Vaa’i, Dalton Papalii are all forwards born out of Super Rugby since 2020 after SA left.

Cam Roigard, Finley Christie, Caleb Clark, Will Jordan, Mark Telea are all backs bred from Super Rugby NZ/ Pacific.

'Mature, clinical and getting better every time': All Blacks time run perfectly as they hone in on fourth title

And the only yellow card went against the All Blacks

'Mature, clinical and getting better every time': All Blacks time run perfectly as they hone in on fourth title

The simple truth Moaman is that the gap between the starting forwards and Jacobson, Vaai, Blackadder, and Papalii is enormous.

The All Blacks cannot risk sitting any of Retallick, Whitelock, or S. Barrett in the stands and have Vaai either start or be even on the bench in a knockout Semi-final.

The same is true for starting Jacobson over Savea, Papalii over Cane, or Blackadder over Frizell.

And in truth Retallick, Whitelock, Frizell, and Cane have all had long periods of rest due to injury this season and should have plenty in the tank left.

Only Savea and Scott Barrett have been played exhaustively since Super Rugby has kicked off.

The only other rotation I would have considered is starting Samesoni Taukeo’aho at hooker and having Codie Taylor on the bench, as Taylor has played a lot of rugby, like Savea and barrett.

COMPLETE RWC SF teams: Poms make three changes as Boks name most capped XV, ABs' QF hero starts for Cheika's Pumas

There is a real feeling among the All Black coaches that in 2019, they were ambushed by England in the semi-final as they were looking ahead to the Finals and a re-match with the Springboks.
In fact, Defence coach Scott MacLeod made this statement in media today about the dangers of looking past Argentina and getting ambushed.
The NZ media and supporters may look past Argentina, and that is irrelevant on the match, but the All Black coaches and players will not

A possible letdown spot: Can the All Blacks overcome the dreaded complacency shadow against Argentina?

That, was by far, Sam Cane’s greatest test ever.

Well played sir.

37 phases and OUT! Whitelock the hero as All Blacks win epic RWC QF to break Ireland's hearts again

Ethan DeGroot and Tyrell Lomax were absolutely outstanding. 65 minutes of outstanding rugby at set piece and loose. And the most significant improvement in the team since the Ireland series loss has been the addition to those two in the team and starting lineup and Jason Ryan’s coaching.

Highlight of the match was Richie Mo’unga absolutely smashing and knocking Bundi Aki on his ass.

Wish Reiko could learn to tackle, but other than him I thought every other All Black played very well.

What a coincidence lol

You must wait 48 hours before a player who has been removed from the squad due to injury may be replaced by a new player.

Therefore, if Foster had any brains, he would have replaced Narawa last weekend so that a legit blindside flanker could have been brought in and trained and be eligible to play vs France in the opener.

But of course he did not so he effectively entered the opening game with a roster spot open and only 32 eligible players

RWC Teams: Wallabies star axed, Hansen misses Ireland squad, England spring two surprises

The only flaw is that Lienart-Brown is such a mediocre midfielder who offers nothing in attack. Too small and lacks power to be a crashball runner who bends the line. Has no long passing or kicking game to be a distributor. ALB offers nothing in attack.

He is a very good defender I will concede, when he is not sprinting 40 meters downfield and head hunting.

RWC Teams: Wallabies star axed, Hansen misses Ireland squad, England spring two surprises

Dear Ian Foster,

Please immediately call Ethan Blackadder and tell hime to get to France as quick as possible with his kit.

Thanks,

RWC Teams: Wallabies star axed, Hansen misses Ireland squad, England spring two surprises

Just when you think Foster cannot be more incompetent than he has already been, he waits until days before the opening test vs France to rule Narawa out of the tournament, despite suffering a back injury the first test in early July. As a result, there was no time to bring in a legitimate blindside flanker to replace the injured Frizell for the crucial opening test.

Neither Papalii or Jacobson are legitimate blindside flankers at test level.

To make things worse, Foster then selects Lienart-Brown at 12, who has hardly ever played a test with Mo’unga, over Havili who was the starting 12 alongside Mo’unga at 10 when the All Blacks saved Foster’s job and defeated the Springboks last season in Johannesburg.

You so badly over-rated Biggar and Farrell and under-rated Jalibert.

I can understand the jettisoning of Quade as I don’t believe Jones truly believes they will get passed the Semifinal. But if you were building towards 2027, isn’t Lolesio still the second best #10 prospect?
