Let’s hope Green does well and they select him instead of the tried-and-failed, i-only-know-one-way Marsh; who belongs only in the white-ball format.
Bancroft is the clear stand-out performer of those 3 openers in FC cricket in recent times. So why is Harris the front-runner? I suspect Bancroft faces behind-the-scenes opposition from Cummins and his quick-blowing mates; still smarting from Bancroft’s hint about those bowlers probably knowing about the ball-tampering
Selectors line up three-way battle to replace David Warner in strong PM XI
Marsh only knows one way. He is not test nor 50 overs material. Green is a better batsman
'That's the pinnacle': Cummins’ finest moment as captain with bold tactical gambles dismantling Indian juggernaut
Brilliant performance by the Aussies. Unsurprised by the sour-grapes behavior of the Indians

Mitch Marsh = only good for T20
Marsh's Kohli drop cruels Aussies as Indian star overcomes hosts' horror start to ace chase
Pucovski looks good – our most capable opener by a long way. Hardie also looks good – should have played in England ahead of Marsh. Come the next test series, here’s hoping the selectors make some decisions with the future in mind
Pucovski makes smooth return after year out of Shield but Vics struggle to build on solid platform as Hardie fires for WA
these days, young players chasing the bucks are developing skills for white ball rather than red ball. Little wonder our 2nd 11 did poorly. Which guy outside the test 11 would get into the English or Indian 11? I cannot think of 1. Different story a decade or two ago
Mediocre displays a testament to Australia's lack of depth
Of course, the Indians will prepare a pitch with turn when they play us; and they will when we play other teams with decent spinners. It will be a double whally advantage, because one of our openers, namely Marsh, does not have a good enough technique to handle quality spin (or seam for that matter); so they can open with Ashwin and we will for 1 for zip after 4 balls
Risky business: Aussies taking two major gambles with World Cup squad after Agar injury puts selectors in a spin
Marsh is not an opener in 50 overs (nor a top 4 batsman) because he has not got a good enough technique; which is the same reason why he is not a top 6 test batsman. When will they realize this?
Australia's form slump continues as India loss raises concerns leading into World Cup
Yes, he is top shelf
Smith, Cummins return from injury but key duo ruled out of Australia's ODI opener in India
Marsh is “stand and deliver” to quote Mark Waugh. So you are right, against good bowlers like Shami and co you need technique to do consistently well. Green would be a better option to open than Marsh
Smith, Cummins return from injury but key duo ruled out of Australia's ODI opener in India
Marsh showing yet again that he is just a hitter. Stick to T20 mate

You can stay there in the white ball game Mitch – that’s where you belong
Spinner's stunning debut, Marsh magic lead Aussies to crushing win over South Africa
Nonsense. The “format” is so different as to be a different game.
The death of Test cricket, and the Australian summer, is nigh
It’s the old story – money talks. Nothing surprising. How many have changed jobs for the $ rather than what we wanted to do? My hand is up
The death of Test cricket, and the Australian summer, is nigh
Well said – agree with everything except Maxwell – he is another Marsh – not good enough for test cricket. I like Marnus to open with Green (who should not have been dropped) at 3 and Hardie at 6
None of the obvious contenders to replace Dave Warner stand out. So why not try a left field solution?
When asked why he is retiring, Paine replied “I cannot stick it out any more”

Jealous Tim? Maybe you should have stuck it out a bit longer…

Yep, can’t argue with those guys being there. It is easy to identify the best but the next in line is a toughie.

Yep, agree with those 3; and I will toss in Hobbs

A globe by the greatest test batsman of all time. Daylight was the 2nd best batsman of all time. Who was third? Graeme Pollock for mine
Happy anniversary to the most famous duck in cricket history
Other factors (like age, strength of opposition, strength of our team etc) are not controlled for in this type of analysis, meaning almost any conclusion can be made if one digs enough. I think the best that can be done is look at instances of good and bad stuff. For mine, Cummins (and Ronnie and co) panicked in England and were lucky to get out of it 2-2
Cummins is proving a successful captain - but how is the job affecting his own stats and those of his teammates?
Plenty of older guys who have been playing for a while and are not likely to be big stars in the 4 -day squad. Things don’t look good down the track – where are the young stars?
Australia A squad announced: Bancroft, Marnus get chance to press selection claims after snubs
Marsh should stay in the white ball game and we should keep selecting Green for red ball
Marsh worth a try not only as T20 captain but ODI skipper after World Cup as West looks best option for future
I doubt Gary genuinely thinks Bazball is a load of s**t. I reckon the Aussies were scared of how the Poms played in the Ashes and reacted accordingly; – dropping Green for Marsh, not playing Harry Potter and two all-rounders instead, as two examples of poor decision-making under pressure. The fact is: England has done very well using Bazball – e.g. a flogging of Pakistan on their own dung hill; – something we did not come close to. They also had the better of the Ashes overall, so I reckon we Aussies have to face that reality – like it or not
