Sport is better than any script you could come up with - so why not write a few paragraphs about it!

1. Yes, but if the selection policy at the Delhi Daredevils continues, he may not play many games in the IPL anyhow. He only played 2 of the 4 games during the Champions League, with Jayawardene, Taylor, Pietersen and Morkel preferred as the 4 foreign players in the lineup

2. I bet they’d be annoyed, but I suspect Cricket Australia would not be allowing him to play BBL if he was resting from ODI’s

Talking above about Nine financing the game, the Commonwealth Bank seems to put a fair chunk of money in – we wear the dark green uniforms during the ODI summer because their logo wouldn’t stand out on our traditional yellow/gold & green…

Hmmm interesting point regarding the commentary – can’t say I’ve sampled any Big Bash, but always liked Damien Fleming in his occasional stints on the ABC. He’s always struck me as knowledgeable but still humourous, a bit like Kerry O’Keeffe (could be a potential “Skull” replacement down the track).

I know a lot of people who give the Nine boys the mute and listen to ABC instead, myself included – particularly with the Tests, they brighten up otherwise dull periods in the game or find ways to keep your interest. I’m thinking back to last year’s Sydney Test and the chilli eating when I say that…

It’s going to be a time of change in the Nine commentary box too, I might tackle the whole commentary topic in my next article

Limited overs games have generally over the years been where new players are tried out – in that sense it’s not a new thing at all.

Michael Clarke debuted in ODI’s a bit over 18 months before his first Test, Mike Hussey was a similar time gap, Mitchell Johnson played ODI’s 2 years before his Test debut, Adam Gilchrist had 3 years to wait, in Brad Haddin’s case it was 7 years!

The selectors use ODI’s and T20I’s as a stepping stone to the Test team – in fact when you look at the lists of Australian ODI and T20I representatives, you’ll see a lot of future talent has already been tried eg. Maxwell, Faulkner, Mitchell Marsh, Hazlewood (plus also Cummins, Starc and Pattinson who have already played all three forms)

The comparison with tennis ratings-wise is not completely fair – one day series against Sri Lanka and the West Indies don’t exactly match up to a Grand Slam. Maybe a more equal situation would be ODI’s against England, so I guess your theory will be tested next summer!

If you’ve got tickets but aren’t going in protest, that’s just silly in my opinion.

Perhaps as a temporary measure, Cowan as captain and Wade as his deputy. As mentioned in Glenn’s article, Cowan does have some captaincy experience. I don’t think the on-field side of the job is the hardest part of it as they effectively go into a Test with preset fields for each batsman based on video and scoring analysis. Cowan would certainly have the respect of his teammates, and he’s probably the best media performer out of all the current players.

I like the idea of the wicketkeeper being deputy as he’s usually in the best place to see the angles in the field, plus he’s someone that others look to as a motivator. They’re on-field leaders due to the nature of their job and it’s because of this that many teams have had wicketkeepers in leadership roles. Look at this list from the past 20 years or so: Haddin, Gilchrist, Healy, Boucher, De Villiers, Stewart, Flower, Taibu, McCullum, Dhoni, Moin Khan, Rashid Latif, Mushfiqur Rahim, Ramdin etc.

Who, or where, is the next Australian Test skipper?
