There is a Pakistani player playing against England tonight. His name is Fakhar Zaman. He only lasted 4 balls. One can only imagine what Billy Birmingham would do with that information.

The Aussie team’s biggest weakness

Currently, I would argue, Geelong’s best team since we lost the PF by 5 points in 2013. Probably the last time we had a fully functioning forward line as well. On track for a big year. Go Cats.

There's only one AFL team we can trust with seven rounds in the books

Gazza has improved in his role as the season has progressed. He is looking really dangerous now. If he can stay on the park he’ll shake the life out of it I reckon. At $34.00 he’s worth a little interest that’s for sure.

Ablett and Charlie reunited?

I’m a Cats member but I feel very sorry for Richmond supporters having so many injuries. Out of all the injury lists, yours is the worst. Hang in there Tiges.

Can Behrendorff/Starc do a Bracken/Johnson? They were a wonderful combination.

Jhye Richardson ruled out of Cricket World Cup

If teams can get Finch, Warner and Smith out then how are either Marsh and Khawaja going to save the day? Carey to open with Finch, Maxwell to bat at number 3 and Warner at 6. No Marsh, No Khawaja. Warner vs the quicks in the final 5 overs is only way to 400+ AshTurner and Ben McDermott should be in the Squad. Not Marsh and Khawaja.

The Aussie team’s biggest weakness

He can take us apart with the bat too.

Spin to win at the World Cup

Thank God his mother didn’t have 3 sons or we’d be screwed.

JamesH – I disagree. If you check through the scorecards, part-time spinners are far more productive in the middle overs if the quicks have taken wickets up front and/or kept the run rate down. Damage must be done early, which is why Gilly and McGrath were so good. New Zealand have never won and will never win a World Cup because they only have 4 million people. We have 25 million. India has 1300 million. In Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, USA, the local teams are full of Indians. They are going to completely dominate cricket and there is nothing we can do about it.

Jhye Richardson ruled out of Cricket World Cup

Sure, Paul. Thanks for your reply… and you make some very good points. From my point of view, I thought Jhye was going to be a revelation in England. I was prepared to lay money on him being in the top 5 wicket-takers of the tournament. Kane will not be. Neither will NCN. Neither will Zampa. Starc is also a possibility of reaching that level and it remains to be seen. Which is the point I made. I take it we agree that Maxwell is not a front-line bowler, correct? My thinking is with the loss of JR (and the inclusion of KR) defensive part-time offspin will not be as effective, and if by the end of the tournament spinners are closing out the death overs we are cactus anyway. I was prepared to back Australia to win it if Jhye came up. Now, I’m not at all confident.

Quite possibly.

But he was injured. Which is the main reason why they didn’t pick him.

To me, it makes sense to open with Finch and Carey in the World Cup. Maxwell at first drop would give him the responsibility he needs. He wants to prove he can do it. We don’t need Marsh and Khawaja. Warner would be such an advantage in the final overs as a floating number 7. In the field we would have Maxwell, Warner, Smith, Finch and Coulter-Nile as infielders – they are as good as any. If we include Marsh, Khawaja, Zampa, Behrendorff, Starc in the team, we are trying to hide too many fielders. We are going to need Zampa, Starc and Behrendorff now that Jhye Richardson has failed to recover from injury, so Marsh and Khawaja must miss. Stopping runs and putting batsmen under pressure is vitally important on smaller grounds. There’s just nowhere to hide. I just think Marsh and Khawaja are giving the opposition too many plans to attack us with, too. We need 6 attacking batsmen and 5 outstanding bowlers. With no easy runs in the field. Constant pressure on the opposition – no respite – and we can win.

WATCH: Warner out for a duck in disastrous return to top order

Final:Finch–Carey–Maxwell–Smith–Stoinis–Warner–NCN–Starc–Cummins-Behrendorff-Zampa.

Why Maxwell is vital to Australia's World Cup chances

Jhye Richardson’s inclusion added a “lethality” to our attack that is now missing. A relative unknown, not many have actually faced him and that in itself was such an advantage. Jhye presented as a genuine partnership-breaker; a vital asset when the drier wickets flatten out come finals time. The perceived pressure his Marshall-esque skid and pace brought to the attack cannot be underestimated. Jhye made the option of employing Maxwell as the sole fifth bowler a a distinct possibility, which now seems all but lost. Kane Richardson may not play a game (against the minnows sure, but certainly not a final) whereas Jhye could have played in them all. Starc will feel the added weight on his shoulders now. As will Finch. This is not good. The loss of Jhye is a massive blow to our World Cup campaign and I can’t see us winning it without him.

I understood you. He must be a bit slow.

'Overrated' Cats will still beat the Hawks on Easter Monday

Totally agree with you. A cringe-inducing hack.

Easter Monday Forecast: Hawthorn vs Geelong

I get scared just seeing his number on the ground.

'Overrated' Cats will still beat the Hawks on Easter Monday

Overrated? So are you still saying Geelong won’t make the finals?

Any chance Finch could lose some weight before the World Cup? His lazy running between the wickets is exposed by Jonny Bairstow/ Warner partnership in the IPL.

The disappointing players from the Shield season who could do better

I’ll wager he’s a Paki. Thin-skinned 🙂

Marcus Stoinis lucky to be in World Cup squad

Actually, Coulter-Nile’s ODI stats are almost identical to Cummins’. I agree with the selections except for leaving in both Marsh and Khawaja. In June there are going to be some monster totals and poor strike rates will not measure up to the task. So I’m tipping Marsh will hurt his back between now and the World Cup and Darcy Short will be his replacement. Lyon is probably excess baggage too (to stop them doctoring wickets for Mo and Adil Rashid?). Darcy Short at 7 would be ideal. I’ll have Warner opening with Finch. Smith at 3. Maxwell and Stoinis to make up the 5th bowler, then Carey and Darcy Short. NCN is a better bowler, fielder and batsman than Zampa. Cummins, NCN, Starc and J Richardson.

Can’t see how Guthrie improves the team.
