I know he has always done the job for QLD in the past, but I thought Ben Hunt was terrible yesterday for the Dragons. Maybe it was just an aberration, but he was ordinary. You might save a bench spot by starting Grant and using Cotter or Hopgood as cover off the bench ? As for backrow spots, I think Su’A is on fire and looks the best of the Maroons backrowers at present.

100% . Do we not forget Flegler’s performance in the Grand Final ? He was enormous as a starting prop, and will surely get an Origin start with Collins. Carrigan is the 13, and Cotter will be on the bench.

The real “achilles heel” for the Warriors is the lack of middle forward cover on their bench when Fonua -Blake & Barnett are rested. When they went off yesterday (only for 20 minutes) the whole game changed with the Titans running in three tries and Warriors doing nothing ? With the middle not performing then Johnson too is not performing. The Wahs got back into stride when their two props came back, but the damage had been done, and the Titans defended well late to grab the points.

Yes. I assume he will once again be overlooked by NSW selectors. So, he will not be missing from the Panthers team during that period. In my opinion, he is the fittest and most durable player in the NRL, but I guess that doesn’t make many highlight reels ? Right now, his abilities are key to the Panthers whole game plan in attack & defence. And it seems this has been quite successful in recent years.

I think the kid will get some real experience in the NRL via the Warriors until he gets to point of readiness to be slotted in with his brother if he shows he really is up to it ! The Panthers don’t need to throw him in to the NRL fire when they have others like Cole and Schneider already to step into the halves when Luai moves on next year !

Just read somewhere today that 18 of their last 26 players to leave the Panthers took up their best contracts of their careers with these new clubs. And I see Jett Cleary just signed a 3 year deal with the Warriors from next year. So, they are developing some handy players for the NRL.

Geoff, I’m a Barnett fan too. I’d have him in my 17 any day. We need to get some middle forward dominance to be a chance against the QLD mob .

The one problem with playing both Cleary & Hynes together, is that they are both predominantly right side players and right foot kickers. If you assume Cleary gets the 7, I think the 6 should go to a natural “leftie”, ie Luai or Burton or Wighton or Cody?

That is an interesting idea. However, nothing will help the spine combination unless the NSW forwards can’t dominate the QLD pack. And they haven’t done that very often in recent decades. You need to win the middle to win the Origin. For all of the Payne Haas dominance at club level, he has never dominated the QLD pack. He needs to lift and bring a bunch more team mates with him. The loss of Tino and Gilbert for QLD, gives NSW a fighting chance this series.
