Give what back to SBS, and why would they want it?

The APL is doomed to fail until it starts focusing on football

Some interesting comments today thanks. Why do we think that the only football stories that really rate on The Roar (and yes, we’re a business, like the ABC and MSM) are about the woes of the A-League? Socceroos go okay, overseas football is barely read (this was clearly an issue for KeepUp as well, too many other places to get good football content other than Australian sites).

A few commenters want a concentration ”on the football” rather than the issues – but barely anyone is bothering with A-League match coverage any more – and the reason is not enough people want to read about it.

The ratings are in the toilet, the crowds are disappearing, the APL tried to launch and sustain a media arm that provided all that awesome content a lot of fans crave but when it came down to it, the audience is too small.

KeepUp had some excellent talent – best in the Austraian football writing business – but couldn’t find an audience. How come? I think because it it no longer exists on a large enough scale..

What do you want us to look at and report on, and how can we get more than a few hundred people reading that content (when our rugby, NRL, cricket and AFL content gets much much more interest)?

Mmm, unlike some, I don’t sook about it.

Well said Cec.

Appreciate the fact you understand that this is just an opinion and responded with your own and why you disagree with it in a respectful way without stooping to personal insults.

Looks like they have the right coach on board and he has almost 100 percent unified support from the Roar readership on day one.

You were so sure he wouldn’t come.

Nice work Christy throughout on this, starting back in November with this yarn about how RA could land Schmidt .

Got a bit of flak from a few commenters at the time along the lines of why would Joe Schmidt take that job…

To generate ad revenue by producing stories that are read by many people no matter how they arrive at the content. If we just rely on the 200 or so regular Roar commenters we don’t exist. Thanks for allowing me to explain the process.
