Curnow with only 17 votes wasn’t even close, but then again the top 10 all played mostly as midfielders. The last key froward to win the Charlie was Plugger, 36 years ago.

End of the road for banged-up Blues this weekend, and I fancy the Road Warriors to beat the Lions at the Gabba. So would that be the first GF without a Vic-based team ? If a flag doesn’t boost the Giants supporter base, then most of their games will lack crowd numbers, and some of their numbers are really low.

Any significant knee to the head or neck should be a free against – unless there is outside interference such as a shove by a third party. Clubs should be obliged to consider all such instances a potentially concussion inducing. If you choose to fly, consider the consequences.

Thanks for your clear analysis. I suspect that blows from players going for high marks – e.g. the old knee to the back of the head – will earn a free kick next year. Reportable would seem a step too far though.

The Crow’s McAdam should deservedly flourish at Freo, while allowing space for a more reliable, taller forward in Gollant to do likewise. I guess Doedee will stay, now that he will miss the first half of the season anyway. The young regulars will have to take a big step forward for the team to finish top 4. If there are any established top end talents likely to land, I havent heard of any. Will Day would have been the one IMO. Any more like him ?
What went wrong for AFL's 2023 also-rans?
I will be cheering the GWS ‘Road Warriors’ to win 3 away games and then a GF against probably a Melbourne-based team. Almost a month on the road would make them worthy winners. Saints at the G in week 1 should get them rolling 🙂

The game should be allowed to evolve, so let’s take touched out of scoring (and perhaps marking too) or at least give it a serious trial. BTW how did the trial for ‘last disposal’ (?) out of bounds go?
Free for out on the full, centre square, no flick pass, 50 metre penalty, no 3rd man up, dissent are changes that have all been successful IMO.

Thinking outside the box: Take ‘touched’ out of most decisions e.g. marking, scoring, pay 2 points for a rushed behind. Last disposal out of bounds free kick – what’s happening with that ?

However, I guess overturning the incorrect non-decision now would be unfair to the Swans as the game resumed with a Kick-in from full back, rather than a centre bounce. Then again, they did get it up to the wing unchallenged because the Crows were celebrating the GOAL! With a good lawyer the crows would have a good case IMO.

I’ll wear the bad kicking etc., but for the Crows to be denied a hard-earned win by a clear blunder, my question is whether the Commission can overturn the decision. The controversial Shuey GF winning goal was different in that it was a judgement call not to award a shepherding free against the Eagles, whereas this seems to have visual/factual evidence as a basis to over rule those at the game.

Agreed. It would be really disappointing if the Crows fall away from here. As someone said over the summer, 2023 is about building and bolstering more than charging – or something like that.

The Ugly: Seems to be not a good year for attracting established top talent to SA, but maybe that can be a positive for some looking for a fresh opportunity at a likely finalist.
