The Good: Crows primed for natural growth in 2024 from Thilthorpe, Soligo, Rachele, Pedlar, Michelaney, Scholl, Gollant, Nankervis, Borlase, etc.

The Bad: Doedee and Murray will be out for a while. Can Foggy blossom with Tex still there?

The Ugly: Seems to be not a good year for attracting established top talent to SA, but maybe that can be a positive for some looking for a fresh opportunity at a likely finalist.

AFL Trade Period state of play: Why this gun Crow is almost out the door - and destined for a grand finalist

Curnow with only 17 votes wasn’t even close, but then again the top 10 all played mostly as midfielders. The last key froward to win the Charlie was Plugger, 36 years ago.

COMMENT: Lachie Neale's baffling win proves it's time to take Brownlow voting off the umps

“Neale’s focus has long been not on his own performance, but on making his team better.
That often leads to his work being lost for the trees and bodies around him, camouflaged by a cacophony of athletes in motion. It could also be why the umpires have rated his impact higher than the All-Australian judges, given their close vantage point in these contests.”

COMMENT: Lachie Neale's baffling win proves it's time to take Brownlow voting off the umps

End of the road for banged-up Blues this weekend, and I fancy the Road Warriors to beat the Lions at the Gabba. So would that be the first GF without a Vic-based team ? If a flag doesn’t boost the Giants supporter base, then most of their games will lack crowd numbers, and some of their numbers are really low.

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Any significant knee to the head or neck should be a free against – unless there is outside interference such as a shove by a third party. Clubs should be obliged to consider all such instances a potentially concussion inducing. If you choose to fly, consider the consequences.

COMMENT: The Tribunal are right - Brayden Maynard's act wasn't illegal... but from now on, it should be

Crows should bust a nut for Philipou – GF was Torrens captain when few ethnics played the game.

Crows robbery the latest in a long list of failures by Gill's arrogant AFL

If you jump, you are responsible, right? How about Cox putting the knee into Gawn at the first bounce?

COMMENT: The Tribunal are right - Brayden Maynard's act wasn't illegal... but from now on, it should be

Thanks for your clear analysis. I suspect that blows from players going for high marks – e.g. the old knee to the back of the head – will earn a free kick next year. Reportable would seem a step too far though.

The Crow’s McAdam should deservedly flourish at Freo, while allowing space for a more reliable, taller forward in Gollant to do likewise. I guess Doedee will stay, now that he will miss the first half of the season anyway. The young regulars will have to take a big step forward for the team to finish top 4. If there are any established top end talents likely to land, I havent heard of any. Will Day would have been the one IMO. Any more like him ?

What went wrong for AFL's 2023 also-rans?

Adequate replacements IMO

Blues confirm Tribunal challenge for forward's Swan whack

I will be cheering the GWS ‘Road Warriors’ to win 3 away games and then a GF against probably a Melbourne-based team. Almost a month on the road would make them worthy winners. Saints at the G in week 1 should get them rolling 🙂

Why every finals team can win the 2023 AFL premiership... and why they can't

The game should be allowed to evolve, so let’s take touched out of scoring (and perhaps marking too) or at least give it a serious trial. BTW how did the trial for ‘last disposal’ (?) out of bounds go?
Free for out on the full, centre square, no flick pass, 50 metre penalty, no 3rd man up, dissent are changes that have all been successful IMO.

Six Points: Meet your new flag favourites, the finals sleeping Giants, and why Sheezel still shouldn't win Rising Star

I mean, if you can’t deflect it enough to prevent a mark or the ball crossing the goal line – well it works for rugby, and footy continues to evolve.

Crows robbery the latest in a long list of failures by Gill's arrogant AFL

Thinking outside the box: Take ‘touched’ out of most decisions e.g. marking, scoring, pay 2 points for a rushed behind. Last disposal out of bounds free kick – what’s happening with that ?

Crows robbery the latest in a long list of failures by Gill's arrogant AFL

Interesting – where did you access the vid that “showed a deflection” ? I’d like to see it.

Footy Fix: The Crows were stone cold robbed... but they've only got themselves to blame

However, I guess overturning the incorrect non-decision now would be unfair to the Swans as the game resumed with a Kick-in from full back, rather than a centre bounce. Then again, they did get it up to the wing unchallenged because the Crows were celebrating the GOAL! With a good lawyer the crows would have a good case IMO.

Footy Fix: The Crows were stone cold robbed... but they've only got themselves to blame

I’ll wear the bad kicking etc., but for the Crows to be denied a hard-earned win by a clear blunder, my question is whether the Commission can overturn the decision. The controversial Shuey GF winning goal was different in that it was a judgement call not to award a shepherding free against the Eagles, whereas this seems to have visual/factual evidence as a basis to over rule those at the game.

2-0 in showdowns 2023 is all we need.

Six Points: Why Ashcroft should still win Rising Star, and a message for Collingwood fans

Agreed. It would be really disappointing if the Crows fall away from here. As someone said over the summer, 2023 is about building and bolstering more than charging – or something like that.

Six Points: Defending Josh Rachele, the Blues' unsung hero, and why the Dogs would be mad to sack Bevo

Six Points: Defending Josh Rachele, the Blues' unsung hero, and why the Dogs would be mad to sack Bevo

Fagan’s decision to go defensive let the Dees in with a sniff and they had the grunt and class to get the job done at the start and the finish. A confidence sapper for Fagan, and a boost for the Dees.

Footy Fix: Seven minutes, four goals, all heart - how Melbourne pulled off 2023's biggest heist

The Pies at home, unfortunately, IMO. Too much big-game experience.

Losing the battle of the birds will end Adelaide's season early

Big Lynch back soon ?

Footy Fix: 300 games in, Richmond's greatest ever captain is still inspiring his team to glory

Maybe Port won’t lose another game until the next Showdown…hopefully the Crows can hit top form after the break.

Footy Fix: 14 minutes, 29 seconds, six goals - how 2023's most brutal burst saw Port obliterate the Cats

The Blues might want to get to the front of the queue for Josh Carr or the like rather than get caught in the rush 2024

Six Points: Sicily and Butler did nothing wrong, ridiculous Weightman pile-on, and calling out abysmal commentary
