1 week at best and will give Cheika a chance to trial another. The boys need to learn not to react and the refs need to learn to deal with the cynical.

Hooper cited for striking against Argentina

Benching players are to allow new combos to trial for RWC, to allow a spotlight on a positional option and in some cases to stoke a fire under players that need it.
In this case it was a combo with no better time to try it than against an argie front row on their bowling green (?).

[Highlights] Wallabies overpower lacklustre Pumas 34-9

I’d offer up B-Rock that the way we won, coming from a poor position in both tests to win won under extreme pressure to maintain and control the pill to pulling away as a good team should do against a scrappy opposition is a positive.

[Highlights] Wallabies overpower lacklustre Pumas 34-9

I’ll give Sio a learning pass card to use but Slipper, should he be playing against perceived better opponents if he can’t scrummage at 100% its not like we are feared enough yet!

The scrum had me swearing and the neighbours pulling curtains but question whether Slipper has caused the instability (through injury) and after 1 or 2 scrums after he is replaced the front row gains its confidence?

I was suprised by his selection but don’t think our Northern Hemisphere foes like useless forwards so to play as long as he did up there and as a starting lock must say he has picked up his game, do see him and Simmons working well together but need to see that combo in Sydney to fully support.

ZG think Will, Cooper and Phipps (someone tape his mouth up) will be running a few punishment steps this week.

Certainly needs to reclaim last years form.
Counting in his favour is Toomua’s inability to tackle correctly and Quades game changing brain explosion, more lazy than calculated but against the ABs you would expect that to be a 10 point brain fade.

So Mumm played well, strong carries and good ball control. Not bad first up and maybe Cheika knows a bit more about rugby than the armchairs?

I did question coming back to the roar for my fix on rugby opinion, the trolling from a select few detracts from some excellent viewpoints.
My faith was restored.
Armand this is by far the best rugby article I have read in the past while, on any Kiwi or Aussie forum.
Thankyou for providing an intelligent, respectful and engaging piece.

Looking forward to two great games.

All Blacks vs Springboks: Rugby's ultimate clash of the titans

Well said Harry and same here, best of luck to Holmesy and to the guys who come in to start this week.
Nice to have a situation where guys have to play very well everytime they put that gold jumper on otherwise the bench or the paddock will be calling.

Wallabies team to play Argentina: Cheika rings the changes

Read through and was going to post my own armchair thoughts but yourself and Zac covered it well.
Should be two good games with no outright favourites.

Wallabies team to play Argentina: Cheika rings the changes

Agree on flaws, believe Cheika is the man to correct over time.
Nice to have such different styles at 10 and 12 at our disposal, makes predictabilty a non issue as long as a seamless introduction in a game can be acheived. Although Izzy has a mortgage on 15 watching him run into the hole alongside Gits stirs my interest to see him play a game or two at 13 if Beale or Foley (?) plays 15.

Moore's marauders: Who dares, wins

Ben O’Keefe was the TMO who is a good up and coming referee. A Kiwi.
Wasn’t a poor decision as clearly grounded.

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

Makes a big difference when your half back has a crisp and accurate pass. Phipps could get a lot better but will need to if he wants parity with Smith.
Genia still playing on reputation but hopefully Chek and Larks can reignite his 2011 form as what hopefully has been done for Horwill who played far better minutes last night than most of his last few tests combined.

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

Sheek well put.
To win first up against a good early season Bok side was good, not the lucky call but the last 20 minutes of ‘get knocked down but get back up’ effort. The fitness and the cohesion not normaly seen until the 3/4 test was my biggest highlight. Chek and his team have obviously put a great deal of emphasis on fitness and it showed.
A Wallaby team under Chek won’t die wondering and doesn’t lack heart, fix that and the Wallabies might be able to match the better sides, last night showed this and although combos still need work, 2 or 3 starters to the bench this week, I’d give last night a thumbs up and pat on my Wallaby jumper coat of arms, proud of my team.

Moore's marauders: Who dares, wins

CP forgot to add the fitness level of the guys was very good, Slipper and Skelton need more work on theirs though but overall to be playing at pace with 10 minutes to go was an eye opener as our last 20 minutes in the past were based more on heart than both.
Another early tick for Chek & his team.

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

Although the Wallabies were lucky for the win CP they created their luck and kept in the game for the 80+ which for a first hitout against a scary looking Bok team meant that victory means a lot to a fan like me.
By calling the Boks scary I mean impressive, their running game and breakdown work was far better than I expected and will only but get better, as will the Wallabies.

Sio/Moore/Kepu are my choice front row for our games this year but think the ‘hipsters’ like Arnold (Skelton 2nd 40) and Horwill/simmons play a huge part as does a dedicated 8, Vea or McCalman.

Wallabies well ahead of where I expected them to be, as to are the Boks. SH rugby after 1 real test each looks encouraging for the RWC.

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

Agee SB.
Vea is raw but has power and energy and is an 8, not like Hiiggers who is a 10 trapped in a 6/8 body.
When Skelton makes breaks he needs either 5/6/7 on his hip as these gain line breaks weren’t supported. Like you I would have him on at the 50 or 60 minute mark but not as a pre planned replacement, tempo of the game to decide.

Sio is very good and although out shone Slipper I’d have the latter start next weekend, keep Sio’s powder dry for the RWC and play him for the 2nd 40 up until then.
Toomua & Foley will get the best out of our straight runners and although I even questioned whether Gits was in the past his heart was immense and although somethings didn’t stick watching that missed opportunity with Izzy showed that natural reading combos are very close to hitting the mark with some very good close quarter passes, again not what I expected for a potentialy rusty team.

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

The highlight that stood out for me was that compare this first test of a season against several from years past.
Samoa & Scotland prime examples of how a Waalabies first season test can be devastatingly bad.

Playing against a Bok side that showed a 60 minute all round performance of attack, precision and power and off the back of a very good performance last week the Wallabies would be tested.
Well done boys for showing heart and well done Chek, great coaching to have the boys in the game with 20 to go and fit and organized enough to win after 80+.

Nice

Wallabies come from behind to beat the Boks

If Hansen is concerned about the line out drives being illegal should the opposition coaches then raise the cleaning out of players off the ball and not involved in the ruck by the ABs?
This cost both the Chiefs and Crusaders considerable penalties throughout the Super 15 and this poor discipline has continued into the ABs and when up against sides who can vocalise this better I’d assume the same flow of penalties will flow against the ABs.
All Southern Hemisphere sides will need to sharpen up their discipline during the limited tests available.

Good win by the ABs with considerable scope for improvement left.

Hansen hits out at 'boring' lineout drives

Well said EB.
I do like the look of Ireland though as they have a consistent threat feel.

Wallabies end tour with loss to England

The tour will have Cheika take what he needs out to write his plan, first hand information can make for a clear picture.
Although appreciate the disappointment shown by a few here this tour wasn’t about flicking the perfect switch.

A good win by England, good forward play but expecting that to deliver you a RWC is fool hardy, just as it would be for Cheika to listen to anyone other than himself and those he wants in to make changes.
The best performers out of the tests, goes without saying the ABs however Ireland for me stood out as the NH team which has a complete package with improvement to come and again shows that good coaching can make a big difference even without world class cattle.

Chin up boys, run the steps and see you in 2015, fitter, smarter and Cheika harder.
