I think with Freo that they need to make the most of their home games – it’s not easy for teams to travel over there. If they can win a few more home games than losses, it will only take a couple of upsets on the road to get them over the line.

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

I do find it increasingly hard to see the Swans make a real run for it this year, but with Buddy it is possible. The Docker’s boost with Hogan and Lobb is enormous, and could see them as the surprise package next season I think.

110% agree with you, I like the XI you gave. The only change I would make, if we were in need of an all-rounder who bowls pace would be Cartwright for Labuschagne. His leg-spin will be less necessary at home, and the truth is that guys like Head and Maxwell (even Renshaw) can bowl more part-time overs if needed. Marsh is now all of a sudden in form, and if he plays as well as he did in the Ashes last year, he deserves a spot in the team

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Well said, I personally don’t think the Bulldogs have much of a chance either and would have them in the same category as the other three teams you mentioned. However, they would also be most likely to make finals out of those four.

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

Cheers pal, appreciate the feedback. I agree, it was quite hard to reason with some teams making the eight next year (Saint Kilda, Carlton, Bulldogs and Suns) but there is at least something there if they have a ‘perfect’ season as a team with little injuries.

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

Agreed – whilst they still need to warrant their selection, all four are very exciting at their best, and still all have at least 7 years left in them if they play well. Weatherald will have around 10+ at this rate.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Whilst nothing is impossible, and Sam Walsh would be a great addition to the GC for that reason – I find it hard to see Gold Coast trading picks 2, 3 and 6. They plan on getting either the King brothers, or Lukosius and Rankine/Rozee with 2 and 3, in hope that those players together (either combo) will have them less likely to leave.

I understand that Hogan and Lobb are massive ins – Top 8, maybe? Top 4, highly unlikely; as much as I like Freo.

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

Completely agree on that Tim, they brought their lack of success on themselves last year (to an extent). Whilst it isn’t the sole reason they didn’t make finals, their injury list was very lengthy, with star players the main features too. I think personally the flag in 2019 can be won by six teams: Adelaide, Collingwood, GWS, Melbourne, Richmond and West Coast. But like a lot of things, you never know what can happen.

A young bloke called Tom Lewis in SA is also on Freo’s radar this upcoming draft; they are looking at him to be the next Neale if they can pick him up. Give this one a read:

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

He definitely has the frame (already) and potential for it. I think game time at the top level is the best thing for him and his development. Will want to build on last year for sure

Why your club will make the top eight in 2019

I do agree with you to an extent Dan; his technique was pointed out with flaws against swing bowling and was reported as being fixed. How true this is has yet to be seen/fully tested, however the above article is referring to the Test series against India, not England just yet. Only time will tell with how much Handscomb has improved his flaws.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Quite unique – what has you picking Patterson at 3? Just out of curiosity

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Whilst I understand what you’re trying to say, the selectors of recent times have not always gone with the best six batsman. Renshaw for example was never, ever in the top 6 batsmen in the country when he was picked. Yet it has worked for him now as a result of his selection. Whilst the top 6 in the country is considered, it is by no means the only factor when picking blokes.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Yes I have also heard that; which could then as a result see Rankine slip as low as #6. There has been some talk in SA about that as well, I wouldn’t rule it out

Your guide to South Australia's most talented draft pool yet

Well said Ryan; another comment I agree with. Like you I think Renshaw will open in the First Test, however the sudden hype around Harris may just get him over the line if he hits another ton. I can definitely see Renshaw and Weatherald opening for Australia together in a few years time.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Sure thing. Sorry, was under the assumption Finch kept his spot opening. The good thing about the current players in the team is their versatility. All of Finch, Khawaja, S. Marsh and Head can bat anywhere in the Top 6 (Khawaja probably only Top 4)

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Don’t know why the batting order laid itself out like that, apologies

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Yeah I don’t mind that. I personally (I know others wouldn’t agree), but would put S. Marsh ahead of Lehamm in the team. He averages 89 (albeit, from 3 innings) at Number 6, and 43 at Number 5. So for me personally, what you think of:

1. Renshaw
2. Khawaja
3. Maxwell
4. Finch
5. S. Marsh
6. Head
7. Paine

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Whilst Maxwell’s average speaks for itself at 3 in Shieffield Shield, where does that leave Khawaja? Out of the team?

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Completely agree with you. Selection will be interesting to say the least

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Hi Ozibatla, I do think the repercussions are still sinking in from the SA series I agree. This lined up with the lack of serious, genuine competition at state level (when compared to 10, 15 years ago) makes the selection less obvious and more ambiguous I suppose.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Sorry mate, the article was already essentially submitted by the time him and Cooper had tonned up. Would’ve added those two and Heazlett if I could. I do agree with you though

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Cheers for the opinions, I agree with you on Finch how he isn’t certain; but safe enough I think just for the purposes of the article. He would likely have to bomb out in the ODI/Shield for him to no longer be selected.

Who could come into the Australian Test team?

Hey mate, cheers again for the feedback. Much appreciated.

I completely agree with you on Wade; his batting has almost been good enough to be considered for selection. I also agree with your comments on Handscomb, however I do feel that out of those in the same category, he is the only one with proper Test experience (alongside Maxwell). Cheers again
