The hits in the game where the most brutal you will see, and the Rabbitohs did to the Dogs what they have copped from them in seasons past.

Strong crowd of 30k, and I can bet they where watching on the box, shows why League is the best game in the land.

Glory could finally be en route to South Sydney

Good to see someone posted a League article.

All i can see on the left hand side of the page is AFL, Union and Football.

What is the matter with this site, do you really want League supporters to come here?

Glory could finally be en route to South Sydney

To those arguing about handling of the ball in AFL vs Football are kidding themselves.

The majority of the game in Football is played with the foot, whilst the majority of the game in AFL has the ball in hand.

Players in AFL run with the ball in hand then kick, and you get another player catching in with their HANDS. Over and over again. That does not even take into account HANDballing to each other.

How a goal is scored is minor compared to the general play of the game.
In any case, you can score points (behinds) in AFL with any part of your body, including your hands.

You cannot score a goal in Football with your hands unless you are Thierry Henry, Diego Maradona or a rubbish Goalie.

Sorted.

No code should have exclusive rights to the football name

Look online, what is it filed under>>>>>AFL in both papers.

No code should have exclusive rights to the football name

So why is the Victorian game called AFL in Sydney? They never call it Australian Football anywhere, be it the in the media nor is it corrected by the AFL Commission.

Go to the following websites: ABC, Foxsports, SMH and even the Roar, Football is not the AFL.
The Age and the Herald Sun don’t even call AFL ‘Football’.

The horse has bolted, so if you don’t like it, blame those that run your game.

So get on board Australian Football for the World Cup.

No code should have exclusive rights to the football name

Yeah we get it, the AFL have done nothing wrong, and the FFA are evil.

Keep repeating it over and over and hope people believe the crap.

If Australia win the rights, bad luck if you live in AFL, sorry I mean Victoria.

Sporting Capital my arse, more like the Myopic Capital.

The truth behind the World Cup and AFL

What does South Africa have to do with a Friday night comparison in Sydney?

Lets face the facts, there are 7 games played by the Waratahs + 3 or so Tests each year Sydney.
So 10 or so top flight matches of Union in this town, and they can’t fill any of them at least once, and last up the Waratahs got 16,000. You work it out.

By the way, the TV ratings for the Saints vs Eels in Sydney is equal to what the Waratahs will get for their entire home matches on Fox (and that is an Australia wide number). One match. The Wallabies will not get near that figure for any of their matches.

Don’t blame me for pointing out facts, go and fire your guns at ARU HQ, they should be the ones addressing this slide that has been occurring over the past few years.

Who's to blame for falling Super 14 crowds?

Wow 16,000, it looks like they didn’t read your article Andrew.

Now that the League has kicked off, could the last person to leave the SFS at Waratah games please turn off the lights.

Cheers

Who's to blame for falling Super 14 crowds?

So it bothers Adrian as he purports that the game highlights a racial divide.

So what are we talking about in terms of Indigenous people in Australia?

The Indigenous people of Australia are the most marginalized people in the nation, with overrepresentation in crime and substance abuse and lower education, employment, health and life expectancy. It is abysmal, and it is not good enough in 2010 that this is still the case on all fronts.

One of the places where Indigenous people are overrepresented and excel is in certain sports, Rugby League being one of them.

Why not highlight that Indigenous people are fantastic, and look at the pride shown by the players and their community. For Indigenous children to see this, and to have players like Preston Campbell as their heroes is a good thing. It doesn’t solve any of major issues, but what is wrong with positive reinforcement?

In terms of the idea that it will cause an ongoing divide is ludicrous with one game a year, as everyone goes back to their clubs after the game.

So in short, this article is poorly thought out, and I would go so far as to say that I would be embarrassed if I had posted it.

Sport should unite race and colour, not segregate

I bet that if the Seti institute announced that they had received a message from another civilization, Sheedy would be on the phone to see if we could send them a Sherrin.

American colleges could be AFL's next frontier

So I guess Super Union is going back to their formative years when most scores looked like 74-40, 68-52 and 48-45.

Thanks for the tip, I will make sure I take ‘Overs’.

Just make sure someone lets me know what the score was.

O'Neill wants to reward attacking play at breakdown

No issue if you are happy about this kind of thing, but to call it AFL World is a joke.

Wow, a few kids from poor nations told that they can come live in Australia to get out of their current situation. Done Sir.

I guess at least these kids have actually played a few games, unlike that Canadian Union player or KHunt.

Sheedy signing that kid is nothing but another publicity stunt.

The AFL World Team is finally taking shape

What a poorly written OP and all the deluded that are arguing about something they know very little about.

1. Europe was always going to get 2018.

2. Australia was bidding for both, to get 2022.

3. The 2018 and 2022 winners are announced at the same time, so no real extra cost for the bidder to both.

4. It will boil down to Australia and the US for 2022.

5. Nothing has changed, the AFL supporters on this site are still arguing that the AFL are not trying to hobble the bid.

For what it is worth, Australia will win 2022, you can bookmark it, so then you can go and cry and whinge again how an 8 to 10 week break in one season in 125 years is going to send the Competition broke (not my words, those of your fearless leader).

Time to get serious about our floundering World Cup bid

Even the diehard Union supporters on this thread are confused as to what rule changes or ‘interpretations’ are going to be made, and who is going to use them.

Then we have the commentators being slammed because they don’t know the rules, who in the main are ex-players.

What hope does the casual viewer of the game have to know what is going on?

The 2010 rugby season is shaping up to be a cracker

Unless we have a massive injury toll, there really is no excuse for this side not making the finals.

From there, anything is a bonus for long suffering Souths fans.

Tallis says size will matter for Rabbitohs

Market share? The Rebels have less chance of being on FTA than the Storm, and that is the way that you build support amongst the masses.

In terms of crowds, we continually hear about the vast swathes of Union support in Melbourne, and I will believe it when I see it.

At least Wadron knows what it is like to run an organisation that loses millions each year, because that is what he will be running when it comes to the Rebels.

The only difference is that this time it will be private owners copping the losses, so l give them around 3-5 years before they bail out and the whole thing folds, because the ARU couldn’t even run a micky mouse comp that cost $5m a year, so there is no chance that they could take over the reins.

Storm CEO defects to rival Rebels

Secondly, he wasn’t born in and didn’t move to New South Wales.

Not a truer word spoken.

Was Brad Hodge unlucky or just not good enough?

So the salary cap in the AFL is ~$7.7m IIRC, and the new clubs will have $1m more to spend in their inaugural year???

I have no issue that they want the new clubs to get off to a good start, but having 13% more to spend than your opposition as well as having the pick of the best youngsters, is clearly excessive.

Good luck if you follow a traditional club on the wane. I am sure you can conjole yourself that it is for the good of the game as you watch your team get thrashed.

Growing pains to hit clubs as AFL expands

Make the SFS a 60,000 Stadium, run a light rail from Central.
After the game, walk straight into Paddo for a great meal and a few nightcaps in some of the best pubs in Sydney.

That would be ideal, but the only chance of it being done would be if we had a reason, such as a large sporting event that we could lure here.

Any ideas? ; )

Sydney needs a Central Stadium at Darling Harbour

Demetriou said what he said because he is angling for compensation and if he can hobble the bid then that is even better.

Lets not forget the champagne bottle opened each time the Socceroos missed out.

If the sport cannot handle an 8 week disruption once in 100 years, then all the bluster of being the number one game with full warchests is a load of crap.

Demetriou ridiculed for the good of his sport

Nice spray.

Pity it is as relevant these days as the Wallabies on FTA, no one cares.

To Sheek,

I cannot see a merger in my lifetime.

Cheers

One day there will only be Rugby

As a Sydneysider, a reconfigured Homebush including roof.

The ultimate World Cup stadium solution

“The AFL helped bring down Howard”

Please elaborate…………

A solution to the AFL stadium issue

Yes, I stand corrected on that, but you look at this picture of the Stade-de-France, it is nowhere near the size of the MCG (distance from the edge rectangle to the side stands:

A solution to the AFL stadium issue

“Granted – most of those tend to be a little more compact than the MCG – however, the argument that the MCG must be rectangular is weak”

From wikipedia:
Berlin: 105m x 70m
Stade-de-France; 105 x 68m
Yokohama and the Rose Ball are fairly similar.

MCG: 174 x 149m

It is not even close, it is either rectangular for the event, or it is out.
