Q. How do you win a rugby match?
A. Score more points
Simples

Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table

Maybe Carter at 12 and Noah at 10 can give us the best of both…
1980s – Ella at 10 and Noddy at 12 – worked ok?????

Enough of realistic expectations, let's get excited about future Wallabies

Stirling Mortlock- cannot beat that name!!????

Welcome to the NRL, Mark - here's everything you need to know about The Greatest Game of All

Couldn’t agree more- great insight.
And yes, highlight that Eddie has learnt nothing in 20 years- the obsession with league players, coaches, and structures. Selection- nothing learnt, I remember having the same view back in 2003 that especially leaving Melon out of the WC squad would cost us….

Eddie Jones' mindless selections are making 'position-less' Wallabies chaos even worse

And for our forward pack to outweigh SA and Ireland by that much!! ????
Pretty much unheard of!

Eddie Jones' mindless selections are making 'position-less' Wallabies chaos even worse

Can’t but agree that Eddie’s position is tenuous at best after the stuff he dishes up publicly. The smash and grab raid has been well and truly smashed and grabbed, Eddie along with it in my opinion.
Surely somewhere in the corporate/ rugby coaching world we have a Rod Macqueen style coach again. Proven in business, proven in coaching, no media rants, cal and professional. What I would give for someone out of that mould …..

Good, the bad, the Eddie: Rats and possums, Hoops 'like the ex being MC at your wedding' and an orgy of apologies

Yes, looks like Jake White stole this from Jake Howard!! Unless Christy you have your Jakes mixed up!
Heard this in person from Jake Howard in the mid-90s!!

Nuclear blow to Wallabies' hopes of dominating key area - as Fiji selection puts full glare on Donno

It is just terrific that we have probably 3 top shelf halfbacks now – and no, Jake Gordon is not one of the 3

'We defended like a pack of dogs': Tate leads Reds to stunning win after Thorn's huge call ends 10 years of pain

Bring back Gordon Bray!!????
Even better, Buddha!

Connor Vest just gets on with his job and does it well – phenomenal work rate last night

'We defended like a pack of dogs': Tate leads Reds to stunning win after Thorn's huge call ends 10 years of pain

Standard Paul Williams performance- erratic not to mention incorrect
At least we finally overcame that as well
Even with first choice players missing that was still a pretty handy Chiefs team – of course the Teds had enough players missing too
Daugunu at 13 – not the best 13 performance but he was everywhere in attack and defence

'We defended like a pack of dogs': Tate leads Reds to stunning win after Thorn's huge call ends 10 years of pain

Nothing wrong with a well constructed mail, it is a skill frankly few teams possess. Good defences can and do stop 5 metre lineout mauls…
But a concession- allow defenders to take the maul down – not a player who loses their bind and the players on their feet trip over them, but genuine tactics of effectively collapsing a maul… might make a few think again about using the maul from 5 metre lineouts…??

'The most boring play on a rugby field': Why Wayne Smith is right to call for radical rule tweak

There is a simple solution (or solutions) to penalty advantages…
First – standardise what is an advantage – 20 metres gain outside opposition 22, 10 metres inside 22 (not ridiculous advantage we see of around 40 metres gain and still go back for the penalty!!!)
Second- standard rule, if you kick the ball on advantage it is automatically advantage over…

'The most boring play on a rugby field': Why Wayne Smith is right to call for radical rule tweak

No such thing as a double movement in rugby laws….
Playing the ball on the ground, not releasing when tackled (same as ‘propel yourselves forward with the ball’) maybe….?????

'Very scary': Drua land another blow on Super Rugby heavyweights after upsetting 'Canes in Fiji

For those who are claiming Kirifi was bound on the scrum when held held Luke Reimer back – have another look. Quite clearly was ‘bound’ with a couple of fingers, then lets go, then quickly grand a handful of jersey again ( holding onto LR all the time). Clearly was unbound. Plus does it matter? Unless the laws have changed you can’t hold an opposing player and prevent them breaking off a scrum (or ruck or maul) to make a tackle
Issue really is – why didn’t the TMO intervene to at least check it – or Doleman go to them to check?
That would be what TMO is there for aren’t they?

Brumbies rue missed chances as dubious refereeing calls help Hurricanes win thriller

The February champions ????

Rugby News: Alaalatoa's cheeky response to NRL raid plan, 'massive' upside in Tahs surrender

Doesn’t matter how fit you are the speed of that match and the sometimes haphazard nature of play is exhausting both physically and mentally!
Sometimes it was like 7s on steroids- except for the brutal collisions, rucks, and set piece
Thought the Brumbies showed exceptional composure and trust between teammates to hold the Drua and the strike back.
Wonderful to see the Drua bring their natural game to SR. Not far away from beating anyone on their day

'Shot ourselves in the foot': Brumbies withstand Fijian fright as BOD hat-trick seals 'tough' win

Offside penalty try? Was for pulling the maul down as I recall not for offside. Pretty straightforward penalty try and YC

'Shot ourselves in the foot': Brumbies withstand Fijian fright as BOD hat-trick seals 'tough' win

Good points numpty.. remember though that the Tahs are always a top 4 team – just ask them……????

'Messy and unclear': Skipper launches staunch defence of Thorn as Quade, Horwill question Reds' game plan

Not sure if is more of a mental issue for them (they don’t believe they can win) but the Australian SR teams apart from the Brumbies look like (i) they are not fit enough, and (ii) they simply don’t have the basic skill levels – read ‘don’t work enough on basic skills in training’….. if you can’t, from 1 to 23, catch and pass in all situations under pressure and keep making errors and handing the ball back to your opposition you are going to be under huge pressure mentally as well as physically in any match

The Wrap: Where have all the Super Rugby upsets gone?

Frankly one of the biggest issues with Aus SRP teams is that they don’t look match fit to play at the physicality and intensity of a SR match – apart from the Brumbies that is. Occasionally others step up but not consistently. No matches go perfectly to plan, some things always go awry, that’s not even considering injuries and cards. Two questions (someone may know the answers) – 1. Do our SR franchises ‘train like they play’ 2. Are some of our SR coaches too close to the players and therefore not tough enough on their players?

'Really stings': Walking wounded Rebels hammered by Barrett's Blues in statement second half shut out

Free flow of players AND coaches across franchises then

'Really stings': Walking wounded Rebels hammered by Barrett's Blues in statement second half shut out

Yes, reminds me of the Waugh-Smith flanker combination- great strategy against some teams but a waste of a spot and of George Smith against others. An Owen Finegan type much more effective at 6 in 2003 just like Scott Fardy in 2015

ANALYSIS: Why pick Richie Arnold, and what does Wallabies call up tell us about how Eddie wants to play?

Was this article intended to be a debate over whether Brad Thorn is the greatest cross code player of all time??????????

Selected by the Wallabies, dropped by the Reds: Thorn set to axe Vunivalu in wild 24 hours

Lot of support for Harry Wilson- must say I think he is a terrific player and hard worker, but have a look at his impact v. Valetini’s on the weekend (and pretty similar all year). Harry runs into the tackle, drives through, and goes to ground- Bobby V hits the tacklers with power and speed, stays upright longer and drives forward often past the tackle then to ground – when he hits a tackler he hurts them (bit like a budget version of Ardie) whereas not sure HW does that?
Don’t know how you coach that into Harry- but I see that as the key difference between them – in a word, power

'Fewer nonsensical cliches, less platitude soup' - Eddie's first squad fails to tackle biggest concern
