Never was a great defender (strong tackler maybe but that is very different and basically useless as a 13 when your opponent runs past or around you) – not a test standard 13 at the moment hardly a SR 13

'Fewer nonsensical cliches, less platitude soup' - Eddie's first squad fails to tackle biggest concern

He’s still only 23 – and some of those others pretty young too
Much tougher with defences now at 10 than when Michael Lynagh debuted for QLD I think as an 18 yo – as did Elton Flatley

The rivalry is anything but dead: Brumbies win epic over Tahs in best Aussie derby of the year

Last week Rory Scott was the 10 ????who threw an almost identical pass????

Nothing lucky about those- probably just lucky it wasn’t a penalty try after the second YC

The entire game never got out of 3rd gear. Stop-start, mistakes on both sides, over-refereed… entertaining was not a word that came to mind!

Crusaders too good for clumsy Reds as Petaia, Wright star to push Wallabies credentials

Worst part of Vunivalu’s game was that he didn’t look like he wanted to be out there.. just terrible, completely disinterested, awful positionally, couldn’t (wouldn’t) tackle, camped out on his wing no attempts to get involved
Give me Filipo every day!

Liam Wright a specialist 6 – not many of those we probably have not really had one in WBs since Scott Fardy. Not enough recognition of how specialist a position it is

The Leagies have the advantage of no dark arts, only a thing they call a scrum which is really more akin to a chicken scratch (‘Scrum’! – that’s not a scrum!!)
And 13 players who are all the same body size and shape
6 tackles, changeover- 6 tackles, changeover- and on it goes
Almost makes NFL look exciting ????

'I don't want NRL to be feeder system': Gus fires back in Suaalii slanging match after Robbo blasts 'ridiculous comment'

Pretty much all matches put the ruck shambles on show and all referees are consistently inconsistent in officiating the ruck…..
As I see it though you could penalise someone in virtually every- no make that just EVERY – ruck. Some thoughts:
Attacking team should usually get the benefit of doubt
EXCEPT when –
– attacking support players go well past the ball and sometimes even as far as taking out defenders way past the ruck – some teams (unnamed so not to start a verbal stoush over that!) have made this an art form
– and when attacking side players stand in front of halfback next to the ruck NOT attached to it and are simply obstructing defenders
As far as I remember, to be onside when you are not actually part of the ruck (read ‘bound to’) you must be BEHIND THE ‘LAST FEET’ whether you are attack or defence – not sure when I last saw this actually enforced by a referee
Perhaps just applying a few of the actual laws of the game would be a good start…

How the NZ Super sides fared tactically, and the ruck shambles that threatens a RWC mess

Select the right backrow and hooker and we probably do have the forward pack to play a power game and retain possession
Our biggest challenge is to have the players with the skills and fitness levels who don’t get consistently beaten to the ball at rucks

'We've got to put petrol in our players': Jones' Wallabies to play 'power game' with 'possession rugby dead'

If rugby was just played by wingers it would be played in the hairdressers

The Wallabies desperately need a template to help them rise through the rankings - so why not copy Ireland?

Ireland’s 2 ‘Anzac’ wingers are pretty good demonstrations that you don’t need to be 6ft6 to get off the ground and out jump an opponent to a high ball

The Wallabies desperately need a template to help them rise through the rankings - so why not copy Ireland?

Since the Brumbies coach has spent the past few years in Ireland- yes perhaps it would not be much of a shift

Ireland only rely on 23 players each match – seems to be enough!
Smart players- the Irish as the thinking man’s rugby team, who would have thought????

'Ireland is the new New Zealand': Top dogs and proud of it, the emerald isle is locked in passionate embrace of rugby

You can learn a lot about he game and about coaching in the NH – I think you SL acknowledged this

Stephen Larkham has the Brumbies buzzing, but don’t expect him to take the credit

Happens over and over – either like this, or right at the start of their careers, or they seem to struggle to improve at the Reds then go elsewhere and suddenly are outstanding, or get stuck behind someone patently inferior and move elsewhere
Not confined to the current time or any particular coach or administration it has been happening for decades

World Cup bolters on show for Eddie as Thorn's Reds face early season test - SRP talking points

Yep, seemed to me that the Reds lacked fitness and basic skills (and if you like substitute ‘Tahs’ for Reds). On the skills issue, whilst some leeway is fair to less experienced players it really shouldn’t matter if it is you first or 50th SR match – your basic skills should be thee (maybe one key difference between Aus and NZ sides?)
Tom Lynagh – some really good moments in a pretty challenging debut, would really like to see him develop into a great player – but he was pretty fragile defensively, will need to fix this (wasn’t on his own on the Reds on Saturday night though). I think we can forgive these defensive errors if we see him learn and get better. But he would benefit from some serious mentoring from a specialist 5/8. I’m actually looking forward to seeing if Noah can step up this year with SL as his head coach at the Brumbies

World Cup bolters on show for Eddie as Thorn's Reds face early season test - SRP talking points

Problem is for WBs even 2 of our very good 7’s (Hooper and McReight) are just too small in today’s game – both regularly get ragdolled by opponents

'Humble pie': Larkham's Brumbies spoil Waratahs party as young guns shine on Super Rugby debuts

Swinton can’t play anywhere but 6 so limited- without his size he would have nothing. Not in the same league as 6’s who have gone before and doesn’t strike me as a particularly smart rugby player…..????

'Humble pie': Larkham's Brumbies spoil Waratahs party as young guns shine on Super Rugby debuts

Plenty of comments I see about various issues with forwards, recruitment of key positions (mainly forwards), and player development…..
Curiously (and anyone please point out if I am wrong) for some reason the Brumbies seem to have better identification, recruitment, and retention of talent not to mention development….
Wonder how many past and present brumbies (and often going on to WBs) came from other states where they were not wanted, or identified and developed from early ages locally or in ACT/ NSW…
Can think of a few but maybe someone else would like to make a list…..????

'Humble pie': Larkham's Brumbies spoil Waratahs party as young guns shine on Super Rugby debuts

Probably fair considering Corey Toole’s ‘first try’ (well, ‘try assist’) was ruled no try – maybe his foot touched a blade of grass on the line maybe it didn’t….
Karma…..
