Tahs unfortunately looked ordinary on two counts- basic skills and fitness

'Humble pie': Larkham's Brumbies spoil Waratahs party as young guns shine on Super Rugby debuts

Reality is you just need to do enough in pool matches to finish 1 or 2. SA lost to NZ in pool and won a RWC in 2019. As I recall France in 2011 lost 2 pool matches and made the final (and as we all know really should have won that except for some fairly doubtful ref calls)

ANALYSIS: Why Wales versus Australia has become a big deal at the RWC - and the big 'danger' for Eddie's Wallabies

JOC is not and frankly has never been a Test standard flyhalf
Will get slaughtered if he goes up against Sexton, Mounga, even Farrell ( as much as I hate to say so!)

ANALYSIS: Why Eddie will bring back essence of Aussie sport to Wallabies - and the four tight-five forwards he needs

Wonder how many of the Brumbies who have been picked for WBs actually started out in another state and were passed over or largely ignored by their home state but given a chance in Canberra…. This has not changed in years…
George Smith, Stirling Mortlock, David Giffen before them…
Brumbies have for years now been the best at developing players so let’s stop the carping over Brumbies players being selected..

Would be guaranteed in his contract!!
You heard it here first!

Run out by a mile on 18 but given not out – thankfully no DRS in 1970????

ANALYSIS: Why Eddie will bring back essence of Aussie sport to Wallabies - and the four tight-five forwards he needs

Let’s wait and see if Eddie chews through his support team at the same rate now as he has in the past…..

Weren’t a lot of hookers still standing at that point though
Still better than all of the ‘Tahs acolytes baying for Latu’s return prematurely (before he proves himself on and off the field). Give me Lachie Lonergan any day!

ANALYSIS: Why Eddie will bring back essence of Aussie sport to Wallabies - and the four tight-five forwards he needs

Absolutely- DR was being undermined pretty much from day 1

Won’t take EJ 5 years to burn it down????????

OPINION: Four reasons Eddie's long-term deal is a bad idea for Australian rugby - and two why it makes perfect sense

Well the Lord is on the record as say the next 12 months would likely see him out as a coach (although hard to imagine the Brumbies without him!)

OPINION: Four reasons Eddie's long-term deal is a bad idea for Australian rugby - and two why it makes perfect sense

Nicely written Harry. Couldn’t agree more that Eddie the Eagle is more there for a good time not a long time! Experienced maybe but he has never actually won a RWC as a head coach (not many have but there is a fact). Took a team of world beaters to a final in 2019 without a fit and good enough bench tight head to match it with the SA font row.
Ironic that EJ as a former hooker himself doesn’t seem to value set piece, he didn’t in 2003 either
Yes also can’t see Lord Laurie tolerating his style for too long either!

OPINION: Four reasons Eddie's long-term deal is a bad idea for Australian rugby - and two why it makes perfect sense

Exactly! EJ has a short use by date!

ANALYSIS: Why Rennie had to go and the ruthless Eddie edge that makes the Wallabies World Cup contenders

Would love to be proven wrong but I have never seen Perese as a 13. Doesn’t yet have an understanding of how to defend in the 13 channel – mind you few do…
Lenny is well in front of the competition- bit of a shame really as we need a seamless backup 13 and do not really have one…
HP is also not the 12 we need at WB level either unfortunately there have been few choices…

'You might want to take that': The phone call that shows more players are on Rennie's Wallabies selection radar

And while at it – not Eddie either! Again, no, no!! Do not do that to the Australian public!! ????

OPINION: The worst decision RA could make for the Wallabies in 2023 would be to hire Eddie Jones as coach

On the other hand – I read earlier today about how the WBs are following the Brumbies playbook AND that the Brumbies pre-Jake White we red the most innovative attacking team in Australia- basically White changed them into Springboks-lite..
And recall the 2007 RWC – seriously the least entertaining and perhaps poorest quality RWC ever – won by a White-coached Boks (a very good team, true – in traditional Bok style) – as I recall also a truly awful and boring final v England (as opposed to the 2019 version which was a quality match masterfully played by the Boks)
Jake White? No, no, no!!

OPINION: The worst decision RA could make for the Wallabies in 2023 would be to hire Eddie Jones as coach

Fair point that these guys should play in the same position in SR – I do recall though a chap named Steve (apparently some called him Bernie) in the later 1990s and 2000s who hadn’t played flyhalf for his SR side and was thrust into the position in the Wallabies – turned out a pretty decent flyhalf as my memory serves me…????

The missing trait Rennie demands in wide-open fight for No.15 jersey, and how he sees Quade back up battle

So the ref let that go but decided to be tough in the 79th minute….
Absolute BS….
How often do we see referees give a YC in the last 10 minutes when similar offences in the first 10 get a penalty only – at most????

Bernard Foley and a brief history of time wasting in rugby

And whilst on laws of the game… ….
The advantage law…. For god’s sake if a team has an advantage and they choose to kick the ball it is immediately ‘advantage over’!!!! Stops a lot of meaningless play and Hail Mary moves that they would never attempt except with advantage!!!!

When rugby context and common sense are trumped

Call it time wasting, call it getting a breather, gamesmanship….. yes it is a problem. But to act on in the 79th minute when there had been plenty of incidents before is just min-blowing and completely against the spirit of the game too. Fact is because of one action the wrong team won….
Solution isn’t that hard….
Agree with some points made:
1. Clock should stop after a try is awarded and not restart until the kickoff – takes out that issue
2. Same for penalty shots – except if it misses and is fielded by defensive side it restarts immediately they get hands on it (otherwise when play restarts
3. Scrums- don’t agree with scrum clock but maybe if 2 resets happen no penalty or free kick it automatically reverts to a free kick (can only tap and go) to the attacking side
These would be a start…
No justification for the time wasting penalty by Raynal… he could have just just stayed with time off until BF was ready to kick
And I recall an AB lineout in 1 st half where hooker and another forward had a conference away from the touchline before setting and throw in… that apparently was fine !!!????

Stop the clock: Calling time on rugby union

Has everyone forgotten also that Faf carried on and tackled Nic around the head to force him into the ingoal…
Frankly Faf got what he deserved for stupidity- if he had missed Nic’s face and slapped the ball down would that have been YC anyway?

WILL GENIA: 'I hate that's the way the game is going' - the 'atrocious and ridiculous' act in Wallabies' win

Folau was a great athlete but a dumb rugby player
Not in Marina’s class – not even in the same school!!

ANALYSIS: 'Gone past Lote', 'superior to Israel Folau' - where Magic Marika ranks in the Wallaby wingers all-time list

Lord Laurie’s fingerprints were all over that performance- bar line out but give SA credit for how good they were too – and we were smart enough to run a couple of throws to the front that worked well

'Nervous' Noah stays calm to overcome 'shaky weeks', win Rennie's support for Springboks rematch

Seriously- can all the Monday’s Experts either shut up or put their hand up to coach the WB’s…. Can’t always say I think DR or others get everything right but frankly they know a helluva lot more about this than I do! Comment by all means but be a little measured and constructive!
Example- if JOC has his head on straight this weekend and has a blinder everyone will pile on gushing about how he is the solution!!
Some of the comments about various players who are or are not in the 23 or the squad are misinformed, one-eyed, or downright dumb!
Must say the only consistent and consistently accurate comments this week have been about the clown with the whistle last week!????

Coach's corner: Quade traits JOC must replicate, proof ref had a shocker and Cane's brutal reality check

NZ referees have adjudicated high tackles/ tip tackles etc differently (more leniency) than Australian refs all year – O’Keefe’s reffing decisions are hardly surprising. Needed to import a referee from SA or NH for this match as it shone for the final
