The Perth Wildcats will look to save face after an embarrassing first outing in the USA when they take on the Denver Nuggets in their second NBLxNBA contest. Join The Roar for live scores of the match, starting from 11am (AEST).
Perth will be out to bounce back after their horrendous last-start showing against the Utah Jazz.
Granted two games in America, their first contest saw them get blown out of the water by 58 points. They were off the mark from the start, going into the end of the first quarter down by 33 points with the game already over and they struggled to stem the bleeding.
Of course, any NBL team playing against an NBA team without two of their best players is going to struggle to cause anything resembling a challenge, but it was no excuse to lie down and play dead the way they did.
The Wildcats should get Damian Martin back for this contest, but another disastrous loss won’t be a good look for the Australian league, nor will it be a good look for the Wildcats, who need to be competitive and build some confidence ahead of the domestic season opener in just a handful of days.
The Nuggets, on the other hand, are looking to improve in a big way throughout the upcoming NBA season.
They have made a promising start to their pre-season, beating the Los Angeles Lakers twice. While they didn’t have to deal with LeBron James for too long in either game, Mason Plumlee, Nikola Jokic, Trey Lyles and Torrey Craig have all put some impressive performances to guide them to the wins.
This will be another level of competition for the Nuggets though and with the regular season drawing closer, they will be looking to use this as a real challenge to see where they are at.
Prediction
Having been in the country for a week and getting Damian Martin back on the floor, the Wildcats should be a mile better this time around, but they will still struggle to pick up the win against their NBA counterparts, who will simply be stronger in the key areas and moments of this contest.
